Walter White it could be that sense the people who played it most likely played a pre-release build that features like the defensive packs or character creation weren’t enabled.
Either that or the more likely route that they’ll paywall that behind a DLC, though that wouldn’t explain the pre order bonuses being customizables (clothes) or the ck2 ruler challenge prizes

    • @zekun4741
      @zekun4741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

they will probably add customisation as DLC where you can customise your character before starting the game for $15, but will generate a random beard on your character even if you didn't pick it, so you have to buy the in game barber shop for $10 so you can get rid of the damn beard.

CK2 did that, but only within fixed limitations (see England, Normandy and Scandinavia).
What I'd like to see is differing foreign cultural maluses dependant on cultural groups. In CK2, Irish treated Scots and Welsh just as badly as Egyptians, which doesn't make much sense. But if Ireland held Egypt and birthed a hybrid-culture within Egypt, this Gallo-Egyptian culture would have a smaller foreigner penalty against Gaelic and Arabic cultural groups alike.

The fun of overcoming the Muslim hords and somehow battering through them, just to create a glorious crusader empire in the name of our lord and savior. I like the new change to tech interweaving between Culture and Religion. Since the new religion system will give a big incentive to customizing a religion that suits your needs, the changes to tech bonuses based on who within the religion has also researched it give a more tangible benefit to staying within a big religious blob like Catholicism other then minor Curia mechanics. It also pushes rulers to try and convert other nations to their religion instead of just outright conquest, because then you can benefit from any tech breakthroughs they've made

The one thing they haven't changed, and I wish they changed that plagued ck2 for me was how the de jure empire of the Rus, is called "Russia" which idk for me is more of a connection to the Russian state that formed from muscovy rather than a kingdom of Rus people. There's a reason why historians denote it as Rus as apposed to Russia and that's to create a clear boundary between how eastern slavs diverged before and after the Mongolian expansion. With this logic they should have called Britannia "Great Britain", or Francia as "The French Empire" which would all be wrong due to obvious modern connotation.

It does seem reasonable that it ought to be something like Holy Fury's revival of Hellenism, if you decide to go forward without any secrecy you're potentially stirring up a hornet's nest and all your non-hellenic rulers will rise up against your heresy. It kind of already has that with the secret societies but if you're already an independent ruler there's really no reason not to just convert on a dime and demand conversions, there's no real risk unless you're totally incompetent. Going forward it would be interesting if a person converts immediately it causes severe penalties and even a revolt, and if they choose to go slowly by starting a secret cult or gaining sympathy for the religion and elevating lords of that religion to higher posts they can ward off those risks and even potentially reap more rewards. This would make religion a much more meaningful variable, not that it isn't already. It does seem like religion is kind of fickle in a game about dogmatic religious wars lol

It's only going to be super expensive in the long run, but if you purchase things as they come out, or buy future bundles that come on sale to get like 2 expansions for $16 or something, that'll be the way to go, not unlike CK2.

The Kingdom of Jerusalem is actually correct in its borders this time round. Antioch, Galilee (Tyre) and Transjordon were technically seperate regions or administrations - the latter two owing alligence/vassalge to Jerusalem in the same manner that Toulouse or Aquitaine owed alligence to the King of France as vassals - whilst the former owed alligence/vassalage to Byzantium not the KoJ. However, as Western Christians, there was a degree of quid-pro-quo between the principality and the Kingdom.

1:40 I argued for this DLC policy for a long time. patches containing new mechanics paid for by DLCs containing mostly content. That way they can assume everyone has the mechanics and the mechanics can be allowed to interact without having to create a thousand different scenarios for different combinations, or alternatively not have them interact at all.

I didn't realize there will be cultural heads until this video (I maybe a little late to the game there) which could be combined with a cultural unity mechanic similar to religious fervor (within a DLC?) possibly resolving your concerns raised in the "Crusader Kings 3 Dev Diary #26: Map Scope" video-i.e. excessive Italian cultural unity. More specifically, there might be Cisalpine (or Northern) Italian rulers which choose to follow a cultural head, not follow them, or rival them resulting in diversification. I also wonder what level of cultural granularity was relevant for this time period.

That was a complaint I had for a long time regarding technology and culture, that it was far too uniform. I like unbalanced starts, I like different starting points in terms of tech and culture.... but if I'm a minor near a major who has some crazy cool military stuff, then I, by virtue of sheer proximity to them and interacting with them (whether through spying, friendly diplomacy events, allied in wars, against them in wars, etc) should be able to adopt some of those more advanced things much more quickly than someone half the map away.
I hope this is the case because it strikes me as far more fun to then learn about and interact with others on various levels and it offers an interesting variety to how the landscape progresses based on AI/Player focuses and their relation to one another.

It's just incredibly. This is already shaping up as the complete opposite from the imperator release. Basegame ck3 already feels like it will start with more mechanics and polish than imperator will have in a long while. I hate how people are still sceptical because of the imperator release, because paradox has been in damage control mode ever since then, and it's clear they don't want to repeat the mistake. Everything might not be perfect, but it's still shaping up to be a definite updrade from ck2

An interesting thought I have regarding culture and innovations is that of decay.
CK3 will not introduce this, but it's still something to think about.
Where you would have to invest in maintaining an innovation that is useful to you after having made it, and if/when something better or more relevant comes along you can choose to change focuses and you essentially lose the other, lower level innovations over time. The higher level innovations would require more to maintain but of course would enable infrastructure that would support them. This means that if a cataclysmic event happens to your country / culture, say a prolonged civil war or invasion, or just a string of rulers who (per their traits) don't have an interest in good governance, and suddenly you find yourself going backwards, or even having to rediscover stuff you had forgotten.
Just an example, the House of Wisdom in Baghdad could be vital in maintaining the Islamic golden age, but as soon as the Mongols destroy it, suddenly the culture cannot support it's higher innovations and regresses even despite attempts to prevent it. Or, a king who believes that 'science is the language of Satan' wouldn't just see scientific innovation put on hold while they are on the throne but they would deliberately seek to make it go backwards.
Or, perhaps using your Norse example. If your peripheral island nation finds itself with immense continental holdings you would perhaps choose to lose your naval innovations in order to develop more land-based ones, resulting in a complete reorientation of your culture. What was once a sea-borne marauding band ends up looking like Rohan from Lord of the Rings.

You didn't put enough emphasis on the conspicuous tear in the map on the east, implying a future expansion to China.
My honest prediction is that after they make a DLC on the ERE, more realistically emulating a centralized empire (which they've all but confirmed on their FQ&A post), they'll make a DLC expanding the map and creating a modified version of the then added byzantine imperial system to apply to China.

If I would thimk of an improvement in the innovation system, make them more dynamic, allowing formation of cultural/technological blobs where distance also matters and not just culture. I want to see a Norse Kingdom in India inherit the technologies from Scandinavia when they had just arrived, but also develop differently once they settled throughout the years
