    I've been an equestrian for most of my life, and worked as a professional in the equine industry for many years, and I have to say that it drives me nuts when horses are punished for a refusal. There is a reason why they refuse a jump. Whacking them (or jabs with spurs) is not the answer. I've seen plenty of riders use a cool head to try to give the horse confidence, then bring them back around to try again calmly (with success).

      Exactly...the punishment is not needed - please horse riders - don't do this anymore it is old school and proven to not work as well as other aids which are non violent.

      when a horse refuses I just give it a quick pat and try to calm down before coming to the jump again and it always works. i also remember to calm myself down before coming around again

    You know, it would be really nice if the audio team did their work and "checked it twice" BEFORE the live presentation. It is a CONSTANT flaw in these Longine jumping shows. It casts such a black shadow on the Longine reputation. How can a company who markets themselves on accuracy and detail not be able to create or oversee a simple, reliable and operational audio transmission?

    • @XXfallenangel
      @XXfallenangel ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right?! Me too it’s driving me crazy. Like when the rider lunged forward over the jump and his hand slipped forward I wonder if he injured the horse and then realized his ear was floppy, he was probably having vertigo too, feeling dizzy and not seeing straight. I’m actually like really worried about that horse, I wish someone would explain….

      @@XXfallenangelGood for your concern. Unfortunately, in any professional sport, in this horseback riding. Some equestrians are determined to do whatever is possible at all costs without any regrets. I remember when I met a competitive rider in Buenos Aires and, while taking each other, he said I'll be using the crop if necessary. "Winning is winning". I got completely astonished.

    So many of these riders can physically get over the jumps, but the riding is awful. The FEI “claims” welfare comes first but how can that be true when faults are only applied for jumping errors? And yanking and pulling completely ignored? Not only should they be eliminated for pulling on their horses mouths but they shouldn’t be allowed to start if they cannot go around the warm up ring without pulling. I am not the one claiming welfare comes first, I can see that it doesn’t.

      Or how about the Italian rider, who tried to keep going, even when the horse had an obvious injury to it's ear. It could've gotten even more injured the way it crashed through the two more fences he tried to jump.

      Look at my comment I just posted. A bit long. But no one should use hands unless a very gentle guide. I was taught riding was seat and legs. I quit riding jumping 5 ft fences at 16 I only used reigns with a slight quick release for rounding to the bit and a slight turn 99 percent was legs and seat

    I can tell they are holding so hard on the rains causing there heads to go really high. I think if you didn't do that they would probly do better. My opinion but they don't have to hold one so hard. Let a little go. And there is now reason for whiping a horse for a refusele.

      Probably the horse’s damaged ear, which I’d love to know what happened to the poor thing and how the horse is doing now….
      And when the other rider whacked the heck out of their horse for refusing a jump. I don’t even want to think about what that person did to that horse behind closed doors too…. So friggen cruel.
      Also a lot of them look like they’re ripping their horse’s mouths off, & look extremely uncomfortable.
      I AM happy to see someone used a hackle-more though. The bit-less bridle.

    So I haven’t ridden In years but was a competitive jumper. Most of the horses are flat going into the fences. They are not riding with seat and legs and literally hitting the horse in the mouth. These riders need to put a little dressage into their jumping. If you are a true equestrian you use seat and legs and quick release in the reigns for release on the bit. Their horses would not be way above the bit and taking down poles. Running a horse flat over a fence can be fatal to the horse and rider. But this is what high end competition does. Review all the rides the nose way above the bit. Why they are dropping poles and chipping in . I haven’t ridden In years but literally watched this and still knew when a refusal was coming or chipping in or dropping a pole. Of course’ im watching a video but most of these horses are not on the bit they look like they are just being ran to jump. No reign control when needed and that shouldn’t show anyways. Yanking and pulling on reigns is not a true training. Using seat and legs and very slight reig use is what’s appropriate. And reallly a slight quick release with fingers on the reigns and a very minimal pressure on reigns when turning. I’m just appalled by these riders who are jumping these extremely high fences who are literally running their horses over them. Horses are actually big pleasers. But if you are not competing them right bc you are there for a money purse or trophy. Then quit. Buck up learn to ride for the who clearly aren’t taking the right steps. When you are jumping fences that big and need balance do some ground dressage work first. You will get yourself killed and your horse killed. Maybe I’m uneducated or just began riding making sure the rider and horse is balanced together. However you can’t truly connect with your horse without your seat and legs other than a general ground relationship with grooming etc. I’m just deeply saddened by this I watched a video with a Russian rider who was jumping probably 7 to 8 foot fences. I was shocked she made it unharmed arm and elbows like chickens no ediquet at all just a huge sloppy mess. Just jerking on the horses head and very loose reigns. Who the let her get this far?? Just a disgrace. To me it looks like no concern for the horse and their well being , with some of these riders. However I did see a few that were on point with keeping their horse rounded and collected for the jump but most looked like running for the finish line like a race track taught to jump but really not in a safe way. They refuse jumps for a reason after doing this in training it’s bc if the rider not giving proper direction. I don’t mean to rant and rave. But it’s the truth. Most literally running their horses flat. True training comes through a bit of dressage. Horses shop not be way above the bit going into a 7 foot fence. I don’t know maybe this is just another sport like racing. Jockey or rider just gets picked for the horse. But realistically it’s a bond of trust and both perform for each other.

      Why on earth would you say no sympathy for the horse? You may not like the rider.. the horse is an animal they react to their teaching or environment. You must not be an equestrian as you would know this. And If you are you should probably leave the equine community.

    • @adriastelzer289
      @adriastelzer289 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually some spurs are not invasive. Some are very dull pieces of metal that do not hurt the horse at all no pinch. I would say it’s more like a tackle as they are used in little areas on the horse to perform gymnastic like movement or dance like movement. Normally used in dressage. Most is done with seat and leg but sometimes it’s used for a tickle for encouragement for other movements just a very light touch nothing invasive that would harm the horse.

    the first rider kept his reins way too short , when bubbles or that kinda of stuff is at the mouth of a horse , it means the horse has either trouble with breathing or his reins are way too short , please stop this , it is abuse 😢
