Saudi Arabia can produce a barrel of oil for around 5 dollars though. Their electricity is on average about 500% cheaper than the USA. And the USA has cheap power compared to most. I think this might be the craziest on the list. It's like Hawaii building lava factories. The stuff literally just comes out of the ground.
Casino Mecca is even crazier but this one is close.

@CharlieBam I think most of us will live to see SA’s cheap oil come to an end. They know it but they won’t admit it. That’s why they’re so keen on investing. When the easy money ends they will have to rely upon the TRILLIONS they are sitting on to provide.

Solar panels have special, expensive, extra clear glass with a 99% light transmission. What do you think that glass will look like after it’s been sand blasted? In the US, out west a small sand storm will take the paint off your car and frost the windows so you can’t see through them. Imagine the sand storms in that massive desert. One storm, all panels are ruined.

Given just how much of Saudi Arabia is about as unusable desert as you can possibly get, turning some of it into solar power plants isn't necessarily the worst idea, theoretically. The problems start when you take that simple idea to clueless people, whose cash funds are exceeded only by their megalomania.

    • @MuhammadSami-rk5ml

@@MuhammadSami-rk5ml Respectfully, not ALL of it, I venture. First, A lot of Saudi Arabia's area is desert, and only desert. Second, there are indications that SA's petroleum reserves are much MUCH lower than what is currently claimed.
That last may or may not be 100% true, but it is undeniable that SA's oil reserves, and the world's demand for them, are both very very finite things.
There can be other uses for what is currently a desert, absolutely, but building a linear city across it would not be my first choice. Or my second. Not even in the middle of the list, comes to that.

The issue isn’t just from the Saudi side. The foreign companies are the main reason for failure! Funds are provided, but the real work (from those companies) isn’t good enough, or even failing to start the first step.
Don’t be ashamed of trying and failing, but be ashamed of not doing anything.

Hi @sideprojects! I really enjoyed your video; but I was a bit disappointed at the KAEC segment especially since you captured about 20% of the city development and you left out many aspects of it (i.e. the golf course, Rixos resort, Lucid factory, special economic zone, 5 residential district, 2 labor camps and many more) I have been working in KAEC for 10 years and I represent CEO office. It would be my pleasure to showcase the City for you

It's all nice and dandy to talk about Saudi's mega project failures, but no one is talking about England's potholes problems. I urge Mr. Whistler to do an side-project episode on pothole fixing failures in England. I was in London a few months ago and drove my rental from one pothole to another. Its nice to see you sneering on another country's failure, whereas, we, the visitors, get our vacations ruined in your country because of potholes.
