the funny thing is if you get both (say, put solphim in the 99 of a torbran deck) they’re both your triggers so you can decide the order, meaning you can have a 1 damage trigger get increased by torbran, then doubled, totaling 6 damage
@@sophieirisviel4100 unfortunately not how it works 😕 I've got a torbran deck and thought it worked like that but actually the blocker gets to decide which instance of damage increase goes first, so they would probably do the doubler first then the +2, still a lot of damage though!

The controller of triggers gets to choose the order they go on the stack, but for replacement effects, the controller of the object being affected (damaged in this case), or the player that's being affected gets to choose the order.

This of course can be spells like Delayed Blast Fireball or abilities like Manabarbs dealing 1 every time a land is tapped for mana or Spellshock dealing 2 every time a spell is cast. Repercussions can make combat funny in the sense that sure they can block, but now they take twice as much for blocking. In general, when building him or Torbran more focus is put on the recurring damaging abilities and the spells are just there as asymmetrical board wipes. Usually when people refer to spellslinger or talk about spell damage they are not thinking of these recurring damage sources.
Melira is from Mirrodin, she was born without any type of Metal on her (which all Mirran born people usually had some form of metal on them) and she was immune to phyresis.

Yes, the metal isn't the main factor but she clearly has some form of resistance to artifice/unnatural things, which translates to the lack of Metal in her. Is it the main factor in why she's unable to be compleated the lack of metal in her? Nah, but the fact that Mirrodin was all metal was the reason it was able to be completed so fast compared to other planes that have had glistening oil strewn about it.
Y'all did Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus a little bit dirty on the power ranking; blue got a ton of new proliferate support in this very set, most notably Ichormoon Gauntlet. A mono-blue superfriends deck with Tekuthal at the helm gets very stupid, very quickly, and has a tendency to just turn into infinite turns from pure random jank assemblage rather than any kind of tightly-knit preset combo - let alone when you actually find the combos you meant to put in!
Zopandrel notably doubles the power and toughness of your creatures EACH combat, not just your combats. That makes it really hard for opponents to attack into you. He’s great
You'd need a lot of teamwide vigilance for that to have much effect and have you ever searched how much of that green gets? Not much (Thantis has a similar problem). You either do nothing or you get clapped back. Pretty fun for a design, though.
Rat kings are an "actual" thing where rats get stuck together with their tails bound/intertwined, though some people remain skeptical given how rare "naturally" occurring rat kings are.

I love thrun for a voltron commander tbh, has all the words you want, can't be countered, very hard to interact with, indestructible during your turn, trample so easy to get in, AND works with worldslayer....
Kethek, the Crucible Goliath seems like a really good Sneak Attack commander; between that, new Purphoros, and a bunch of reanimation spells you can probably make something cool
Solphim I think is slept on hard. I've built him and he just ends games. So many combos that are so cool, like casting Blasphemous act with toralf on board can just get crazy with evenan average amount of creatures on board. Not to mention cards like repercussion get stupid real quick.

I think y'all are underestimating ovika. Rituals and instant/sorcery spell reduction means you can pretty consistently drop it on turn 4-5, and in all my playtesting, most of the time I win on turn 5 with 60 goblins and bajillion damage in a 120 dollar deck. It's POWERFUL.
I have seen Urtet be played. It is far from a 2 in power. It’s easy to flood the board with Myrs and then turn them huge, it also goes ham with stuff like cryptalith rite or Urza. So you can easily overload on mana and cast something huge. If you don’t keep the deck under control it can be insane.
There are at least 3 people from my LGS who have been building and trying out Urtet, and you are right, it can get way out of hand. Very rarely do I take a control deck to town, but it might have to come to commander night this weekend. 😂
These videos are always the highlight of a new set release for me! That said, I think putting Elesh Norn as an 8 on the power scale is an overestimation of how threatening a mono-white blink/ETB commander could be, especially when Preston and Yorion are rated as 6 and Brago is a 5. The stax effect can be devastating to some decks, sure, more so when you run an all-permanents ETB deck, but it can also be largely ignored by a large portion of decks out there. I would advocate for a 6, but in that case Giada should probably also get bumped down to a 6. There aren't that many commander in the 8 power tier (only 35), and Elesh Norn is not up to par with them, at least not in my opinion (compare her to Yawgmoth, Gitrog, or Yuriko that are also 8's).
RIa Ivor phrasing caught me offguard as well and then I realised that this particular phrasing prevents you from hitting multiple players using effects equipments whatever but also, you could strike the same player twice in a single combat and that wouldn't trigger her as well
Malcator is for those white golem maker that give the golems keywords. It's weak, but yeah. The weak ass stat line is pretty shite though. Also, Solphim isn't limited to spells. It's any source.
I had the same initial though when looking at Kethek, but I built it around token copies, which red can do, and zealous conscript/act of treason effects.
My friend built a Kethek deck that steals the opponent's creatures to sacrifice and it's pretty good. He won the first game he played even against a ninja deck
There is a card called hydra omnivore that says whenever it deals combat damage to a player it deals that much to each other opponent. Maybe that's why horse lady reads that way.
BeeZee; I'm thinking that Ria Ivor, Bane of Bladehold, works with multiple combat phases in the same turn. The card that comes to mind is World at War. At least that's my thoughts on how it's supposed to work.

Has anyone else seen that Bloodforged Battle Axe is now $2.79 I watch your budget bombs/most worth it cards and figured this was a spicy pick up since the last copy I got was $25ish (I haven't kept up with magic at all since before MH2) so if it got a reprint that makes a lot of sense, however I am officially bringing this card to your attention.

Vishgraz is soo dope ligit should be played more base 3/3 but easily becomes a 9/9 with 3 opponents 3 poison each. It scales up supper easy and whenever you cast back from command zone it it stays scaled up unless a player can some how remove their poison counters 🎉🎉🎉
Just noticed that the cost for zopandrel to get indestructible is different from his normal and showcase card. On showcase it's 1-phyG-phyG whereas it's just phyG-phyG on the normal card
When I first started playing commander, I used to hate poison so much and considered it a broken mechanic. Seeing it alot more in this new set I've come to appreciate that building around it requires you to often go all in on a strategy that is highly telegraphed and often will make you arch enemy straight away, while you are somewhat susceptible to crack back. I dont think poison is unfun, its just a different type of challenge to overcome and forces you to consider running more removal/interaction (which is the best lesson any commander can teach you imo). The only time I still think poison is unfun is when someone slaps infect on a high power creature and just one shots you out of the game from 0 poison counters. That's not fun. Haha just my 2 cents

The lizard makes your commander deal non-combat damage to each opponent that it didn't do that combat damage to and is a separate instance of damage using a trigger. Right now the only thing I can think is something like Captain's Maneuver, which lets you redirect X damage to something else, so you could redirect a portion of the damage to a different player, but it's still considered combat damage and happens at the same time.
If i m not mistaken Urtet took memnarch core and that s why he s 5 coloros and that s a way to keep the mirari around. And I think you understimate him a bit
I included Mondrak in the 99 of my Myrel deck. Myrel is simply better and cooler as a soldier tribal commander in my opinion. But as a general token commander Mondrak is amazing and i'm already building one.

I am not a fan of those black & white cards. To me, they look like trash and a lot like those GARBAGE sketch cards from Modern horizons 2. There is not much detail and effort put into most of these cards but you two seem to like them. How in the heck could you give a 10 in artwork to Venser Corpse Puppet and Slobad, Iron Goblin? Seems like the artists got lazy working on these cards. There is much more detail in most of the other cards where you have to blend in the colors and the shading. To each their own. If I have a choice, I won't even put these sketch cards in my Commander decks. The traditional artwork for Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines looks great however, I heard that there are 19 different versions of this card. There are some decent Commanders. I am not a fan of those black & white cards. To me, they look like trash and a lot like those GARBAGE sketch cards from Modern horizons 2. There is not much detail and effort put into most of these cards but you two seem to like them. How in the heck could you give a 10 in artwork to Venser Corpse Puppet and Slobad, Iron Goblin? Seems like the artists got lazy working on these cards. There is much more detail in most of the other cards where you have to blend in the colors and the shading. To each their own. If I have a choice, I won't even put these sketch cards in my Commander decks. The traditional artwork for Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines looks great however, I heard that there are 19 different versions of this card. There are some decent Commanders. Thanks for the video Nitpicking Nerds.
