Years of pretty stressful living, constant conflict of some sort, fighting for his life have caught up and having large amounts of (relatively) safe down time then moments of intense conflict or anticipation of conflict could induce heart attack-like symptoms and panic attacks.

I also prefer the theory that Ellie was immune because of something going on with her instead of her infection being a mutation. But that makes too much sense and probably wouldn't have needed extremes like taking a sample of the fungus from her brain to develop a treatment/vaccine/cure/whatever. It always troubled me that the infection made it all the way to her brain but didn't cause any visible signs of brain damage (unless you count her behavior in p2). I know thinking about all that now is pointless because we know what the writer's chose, but it's still a fun exercise of "what if?"

    • @dr.altoclef9255
      @dr.altoclef9255 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I mean the whole idea that you had to take the brain to study immunity (with a technique that only one guy in the entire world knew, and with a comparatively tiny lab that likely wouldn’t be able to refrigerate vaccines let alone mass produce and disperse them) to basically deus ex machina save the entire world didn’t sit with me.
Like “ok hold up isn’t the whole drawback of the blood-brain barrier that you’re not gonna find immune cells up there? If fungus is somehow up there you’re just gonna find fungus-“

My biggest issue so far with this series is the bat shank being used in place of dropping onto rebar in the game. It's understandable that Joel's in a shit situation in the game because he can't just lay there and die, but you're not going to upend all that rubble to keep the rebar in so it's a lose-lose situation. Getting shanked like in the show, he could have left it until they had an opportunity to treat it better, which would still suck but it's an entire difference from being literally unable to take the object that punctured you along with you. Inexperience, panic, ignorance all could explain the 'Oh shit' reaction and pulling out the shank but in my opinion it's a stark difference between a stupid move and an otherwise impossible situation, and the idea that a man's been living and surviving in this apocalypse for 20 years and didn't happen to acquire the knowledge to not yank out punctures is a little questionable.

I have a story about my Grandma activating 100% of her strength. It is anecdotal but was witnessed by several neighbors , my grandpa, my mom, and my Aunt.
My grandpa was working beneath a car. The jacks he was using broke and the car fell on top of him. He screamed and my aunt and mom ran to see what was wrong, followed by my grandma who told mom and aunt to call 911. My aunt went to do that while my grandma went to the car. Bent down and started trying to pull him out. Obviously that didn’t work, so she grabbed and pulled, hoping to get an inch of clearance so he could shuffle out.
As she was pulling, the car came up several inches, then even more until she pulled it up by a couple feet. My mom had to help grandpa out but the car was held up the entire time. Eventually once it was safe she set it down. I think she only pulled a muscle in her shoulder (to be fair that may just be an embellishment, I’m sure she was more injuries than that). She was 5’2” and 100 lbs soaking wet.
At the very least there I more than one witness and I’ve heard the story from my mom and aunt on different occasions.

With adrenaline someone who is fit could lift the car an inch or two past it’s standard height, that being because the suspension springs are sharing the load and effectively making it lighter for you. Beyond that the car has no more give in the suspension and you CANNOT lift over 1.5tons of metal unless you are INCREDIBLY strong. I’m talking buff mountain man pulling a semi truck kind of strong. Considering the weakening of the elderly bones and especially cartilage, no grandma could lift a normal car any more than an inch without being severely injured.

That Ellie is not actually infected, at least not in the way everyone thinks. Here's why.
While the zombie fungus both in the Last of Us game and tv show is commonly known simply as Cordyceps. that is not the actual name of the fungus. Cordyceps is actually the name of a 'family' of around 400 different fungi. Some of these fungi are toxic, some are completely harmless. But the zombie fungus's actual name is Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis. And it's this type of Cordyceps that we see in the game and the tv show.
However, there is another member of the Cordyceps fungal family that REALLY hates its fellow fungi but is actually beneficial for humans, Tolypocladium Inflatum. This type of Cordycep fungus is actually grown and farmed to make medication. A very specific type of medication. Cyclosporin, which is the most commonly immunosuppressant and anti inflamitory drug used to prevent rejection after an organ transplant. And is also used as antifungal medication for even severe fungal infections.
Ellie IS heavily infected with Cordyceps which is why she shows as posative on the little testing device. However she is infected with the wrong TYPE of Cordyceps and since those devices were likely designed in a rush they don't just scan for one type of Cordyceps fungus they scan for all of them. But instead of turning Ellie into a zombified rage monster the Tolypocladium Inflatum has actually formed a type of simbiotic relationship withe Ellie's body and is activly fighting off any other fungals that enter her system including the zombie Cordyceps. This would also explain why other infected still veiw her as potential food source and why the dog didn't react to her, because the fungus is a completely different species and isn't actually attacking her body but simply living inside of it.
Now people might ask "Well, Ellie was bitten by an infected runner. Wouldn't that mean she'd have to be infected with the zombie Cordyceps?". And the answered would be yes, IF, when she was bitten was when she was originally infected. Tolypocladium Inflatum is a mold like fungus that is commonly found in soil all around the world. All that would need to happen is her diging a hole in some dirt where there's a patch of the mold and her inhale some of the spores, and Prest'o Change'o, Elie is infected with a much friendlier type of Cordyceps that protects her from the zombie Cordyceps when she gets bitten the first time. And the best part is that in the Last of Us 2 video game you can find few recodings from a doctor trying to figure out why Ellie hasn't turned; and a sheet that shows the results of a blood test done on Ellie's blood. From these we learn that the doctor is working in very crude conditions (it is a zombie apocalypse after all) but he is still able to prove that large amounts of Cordyceps fungus are in Ellie's system. And that Ellie's immune system doesn't seem to be fighting back against the fungus like it should be (exspcially since a fever is a common early warning sign of infection) and is actually lower than it should be with her body also showing a much reduced inflamitory response. And that thanks to the crude conditions, and thanks to the doctor's young age at the start of the out break (the doctor is depicted as as late twenties early thirties in the video game) that the doctor either doesn't have a test specific enough to say more than 'Yes, this is a type of Cordyceps' or he doesn't have enough medical knowledge to tell that its a similar but different species of fungus from the zombie Cordyceps.
If this theory is true it kind of makes you wonder how many other potentually "immune" people were killed because those little testing devices showed them as infected.

Can say for true that animals smelling differences in human scents due to various reasons by experience. I've actually found mosquitoes are less likely to actually bite me than before I gained epilepsy. Sometimes, dogs do also end up acting extra friendly around me too for some reason. However, different animals will act differently based on the human's smell and why the scent is different. Cats still act like normal cats around me.
About Elle's immunity through, I actually suspect it's more likely to be related directly to her nervous system and spinal fluid for a simple reason, Elle can get bitten and survive it. However, she can't use her blood as any form of medicine - so, to me, it seems more likely that what's preventing her from turning must be directly connected into her brain to be able to deal with the brain-blood barrier as needed.

I mean, to be fair to him, he would’ve died either way to that FANTASTIC axe throw to the skull, but if that did *not* happen and John just walked away, he could’ve definitely survived, or at least he would’ve survived longer had he NOT removed the knife.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the John Wick series, I love Keanu Reeves and I know you have to suspend your disbelief a little when watching this type of stuff, but watching the movies with a more objective look just makes you realize how stupid some of the minor details and actions really are. Sorry, went on a tangent.
