    From the recorded phone call between Elvis and Red, Red sounded very hurt and scorned more than concerned about Elvis.
    Red admitted to George Klein that he regretted ever writing that book and George forgave him.

    My mom had a distant cousin diagnosed with lung cancer that continued to smoke cigarettes until she died. So it can be true. Elvis was his own worse enemy. Elvis himself said he had a self destructive nature. We all do things that are bad for us.

    Thanks Brother Rusty for responding! It's good that we can disagree without being disagreeable. And i do appreciate and agree with all of the other programs of yours that i've heard. I don't hate Sonny & Red & Dave. If they were really trying to help Elvis, now they have to live with the fact that they were really no help at all, but only inflicted intense grief that hastened his demise: kicking the guy when he was down. Like that old line “The road to hell is paved with good intentions" I read that the "colonel" actually encouraged them to write that book, because he wanted to hasten Elvis' demise. Kinda like Flip Wilson's line "The devil made me do it"
    I saw Sonny West's affectionate tribute to Elvis at Graceland, and he seems like a really nice guy who really loved Elvis. and he wrote some good songs for Elvis: i think he wrote "A Stranger In My Own Home Town" and "Why Can't Every Day Be Like Christmas" I would have more respect for Sonny & Red & Dave if they removed their negatory derogatory book from publication--if they haven't already--rather than profiting over Elvis' dead-body, like grave-robbers, continuing to scandalize and defile his name.
    i know it was selfish of me, but I must admit that on August 16 1977 when I heard the news, my first thought was that now he would never get to sing any of the songs I wrote for him when I was living in New York, and submittttng demos to Peer Southern. And I knew the guy who wrote "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" He told me that Elvis called and asked him if he could change the line "to tell the world I'm yours by heck" and the guy said no, he couldn't think of anything else. I think Elvis would have preferred my correction "Woncha Wear My Ring Around Your Neck/To tell the world I'm your sweet pet"
    Anyhoo here's one of the songs I wrote for Elvis called "Blue Revelation" th-cam.com/video/HCNY7QLTJxg/w-d-xo.html
    Sorry i know I need to re-do the vocal, because I was just too up-tight and intimidated by Elvis' perfect vocal virtuosity, and I need to correct the video because it's out-of-sync. I welcome your creative feedback.
    Thanks again Brother Rusty! TCB with TLC!

    Hello from England
    Having watched lots of videos about ELVIS towards the end he "locked himself away" and we will never really know why it came to this.. It was so different 50 + years ago and ADDICTION would be dealt with differently now. I had 2 family members that were addicted to alcohol so i know a little about this subject. BUT would ELVIS have been saved? No i don't think so.
    Looking back at the interview he gave the Press just before the MSG show/s in 72 , and with hindsight he gave some very telling answers to questions about the changing times in music and finding any good hard rock songs. ELVIS was not a singer/songwriter and what would he have done.
    I think both physically and mentally he was WORN OUT. and he would never grow old like the rest of us.
    I still LOVE ELVIS today!!!!

      There are still lots of comments ‘out there’ that are so hateful about the ‘Memphis mafia’ and it makes me 😢 😢 and people seem to blame them for what happened - they could have done more but humans can be so horrible

    Thank You Rusty for this wonderful information on Elvis.I really enjoyed these views ( Facts ) I'd really like to know the mindset of Elvis, right before the Aloha Special. What make him go off the Prescriptions and lose some lbs ?? And perform so Great ? Why didnt he stay in his present State? He HAD the Wherewithall to motivate himself and "Get Ready for the Moment". I only wish he could have STAYED on the Path and go on for years and years, Was he so relived that the show was Tremendous, that he went back to the packets ? Now at that time, he was not up in bed, and not seeing anyone. I think that was the time to move forward and keep him with us. My opinion is that Someone Should have done " A little more" . Who ? I don't know, But there were times that Elvis was Clear of Prescriptions, and that was the opening that these friends should have seized upon.

    An example of a true friend is to stand by you and have your back if you need them. Writing a book about your friends shortcomings and telling sensational lies about somebody isn't a friend. You talk like Elvis died of a drug overdose. "The fact of the matter" is there's no proof of that. The Coroners report says he died from a heart condition. Your argument about Sonny and Red saving Elvis from killing himself by drugs is irrelevant to why he died, since he didn't die from drugs. You say there book was an intervention, but Psychologists are against interventions. Plus Red and Sonny's book was nothing like an intervention.

    • @rustywells01

      C Fife Hate to burst your bubble but Elvis died due to many years of Prescription medications being Over taken.... Elvis was addicted to Prescription drugs... his body was in a weakened state!! Everyone's heart stops at death... that was a blanket excuse for his passing... Not the valid reason!! That autopsy report was Not done in a proper way... he was Elvis and the true reason for his death was not to be put out there!!! Have you read the book??? I have had the first printed copy when it first came out... was it hurtful? Yes... was in mostly lies? No it wasn't!!! I will always honor and protect Elvis Memory but I don't lie about him!! Elvis was the Greatest Entertainer to ever live... and was a Great person... however he wasn't perfect!!! That book Was a early form of a wake up call so to speak... a Intervention!!!

    • @cfife1924
      @cfife1924 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I just don't think it was an honorable thing to do... airing all of Elvis' dirty laundry. That book probably hurt Elvis, more than help. It very well could've been the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. I understand that people make mistakes, but when those mistakes hurt another person badly; it's hard for people to overlook them so easily. Red recorded a telephone conversation between him and Elvis, and Red claimed that phone call proved he was telling the truth. I just don't see that. The only incriminating thing that Elvis said, was that he was forced to marry Priscilla. I think Elvis was very kind to Red. He apologized and offered Red his help if he needed it. Wasn't that enough? Why did Red have to go forward with the book? It wasn't Red or Sonny's job to save Elvis. It was Elvis' job. They couldn't force him to do something he didn't want to do. Not many people have been hurt in such a humiliating way as Elvis was by them writing that book. Elvis was human, and what they did was very inhumane. That's my opinion anyway. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about whether the book was justified or not.

      Bull! They were tired of being sycophants, they've been sucking it up for years, never able to say what they really thought in fear of losing their job, they lived in his fantasy world for years, he decided when it's bed time, when they eat, where they go. Everyone has to play along with his moods and were always busy trying to make him happy, their lives were an extension of his, they had to need what he needed when he needed it, their personal egos were totally suppressed as the focus was always on him. When they got fired it must have been a relief for them to return to the real world where they were finally able to wake up and think their own thoughts. It's crazy to think that Marty Lacker's best memory of Elvis was a moment when he got a smile from Elvis, this is slightly reminiscent of narcissistic victim syndrome. Elvis lived in a fantasy world which he sustained through the validation he got from 'friends' who were held emotionally hostage, they lived his crazy life of pills and women, for years they alienated from the real world because he was paying their bills. They escaped Elvis' world and cleaned themselves up, they wished for him to snap out of it as well, a reality check was the only way because the fans also indulged him in his fantasies with their blind adulation, the fans needed a reality check as well.

    No one could have helped Elvis. Elvis lost his moral compass who knows when? Maybe after Elvis mother Gladys died it was a slow death for Elvis he had to get back to work and he tried to bury all his feelings but they came out in many different ways in his life style the way he used God's name in vain many times and his temper was off the wall at times. Elvis had many great qualities about him it almost seemed he did not like money the way he gave it away there is no man I know that gave so much to friends and even stranger's. Elvis was a complex person to say the least that being said, we were all blessed because of Elvis his voice was truly a gift from God and he huened that voice to perfection. This person on this clip gave one of the best honest explanation of Elvis and his personal problems well said!

    If the book was really written to help Elvis why did Red West publish his private call to Elvis in October '76 ? And they would mainly have stopped talking that way after Elvis' death. They did not.

    • @rustywells01
      @rustywells01 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A good portion of the Memphis mafia was being let go due to an incident of roughing up some fans and letting the heat die down. Elvis was planning on bringing them back even if Vernon didn’t want Elvis to hire most back. In that conversation you can tell Elvis wasn’t pleased about the situation but he understood in a way. Red and Sonny and Dave spent the rest of their life’s trying to make up for the situation and any misunderstanding that followed. Lisa and the Presley family forgave them and understood what was behind their actions. If the family could move on and forgive why do the fans feel they have a right not to?

    The fact is Elvis didn't care if he died because he. Lost what he Loved. His mom. His wife. And Lisa. And his body guards. Made it happen. Priscilla wanted Elvis all to her self. And didn't feel at home in her own home. I believe priss really loved
    ...... Elvis but they were always. Around and making her feel unnwanted and coming between them. I know if I were w Elvis I would want to be alone. W him lbelievepeople were Jelious of Elvis and Priscilla and didn't want them together. Theywanted Elvis to be a party man. So they could. Use him. And Elvis would be depended. On them to watch over him. And Priscilla would leave him. If the bodyguardsreally loved Elvis. They would have not came between Elvis and Priscilla broke them up. And made Elvis loose his family Elvis needed more alone time. W his wife he loved. So much. He was never the same after she left. And he began to show that. 1972. W all the sad songs he Sung. He loved priss and missed her and want ed her and Lisa Back. He showed a lot of compassion in that. Song he sung what no. :w my love. Elvis was fed up and just. Worn out and he wanted to be w god and his mom. He felt betrayed. By his body guards. And yes u can't save someone from themself. They gotta do that themself. And I believed the night he died in the b r he wanted to be alone to pray ask God to forgive him of all. His sins and take him home. Elvis was always a spiritual man and u could hear it in his voice. He always. Had faith in God and loved him

    I saw a documentary on Howard Hughes, he went into a complete recluse and to the point he was transferred from hotel to hotel, given copious amounts of codeine via an IV. He finally went into a coma and died. The parallel is interesting. I don't think Ginger was good for Elvis.

      Ginger was what Elvis wanted at that time! She was really young and would not question Elvis and he had her trained to do as he said so to speak! Ginger wasnt the problem technically! Elvis was his own worse Enemy at that point! Ginger had no way to stop Elvis actions!

      The morning before he died he played Racketball… he was trying to be in shape for his next concert tour…however the last year of his life if he wasn’t on stage there were many times he was up in his room away from everyone and everything! Hell RCA had to bring the recording studio to him in 76 because he wouldn’t go to them to record… their thought process was if he wants he can record a song here and there! Parker was trying to put out a few more albums and they couldn’t get enough recorded material so he added Live performances to fill out the albums!
