  • I really need to get this little car back on the road as quickly as possible.
    It's time to take a look at the cylinder head and block & see if we can find the reason why pressurised engine oil is making it's way into the coolant system...

    hey Andy! love the videos! you are a fantastic mechanic, the way you can just look at things and basically figure it out is something iv'e worked many years at trying to do and failed at. lots of part swapping and hoping. i would love to see some troubleshoot method videos for us home warriors who don't have all the fancy diagnostic tools and equipment. finding leaks, maybe some simple diagrams on engine systems, WIRE TROUBLESHOOTING my goodness am I terrible at that.

    Nice job Andy !
    I would have sprayed that sucker with some copper head gasket stuff for added measure
    Just use it for a winter beater it will last you years 👍

    One thing I don't miss about carburetors is all the freaking vacuum lines! Fuel injected engines hardly have any anymore other than for evap.

    does it have an oil cooler that could be at fault?

    I wonder if you could shoehorn a yamaha or triumph 900ish triple in there.

    Have you tested with a straight-edge along the length of the block? (across the cylinders)
    Perhaps its high on the outside edges as compared to the center?

      +Ash Powell Hi Ash, yes, I did that last time and it was fine. I did this job only 2 years ago on the same car. It's all fixed again now, done over 1000km and no more issues.....time to sell it! :-)

    Hard to see what the problem was with the old gasket. Coming along nicely

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Badgertronix yes, I agree, though pistons 1 and 3 did show some cleaned areas - maybe due to coolant ingress into the cylinders after the engine had overheated due to the oil mixing with the coolant.
      Anyway....more to come :-)

    I have a problem with my F6A with an oil leak in head. There is a larger hole compared to all the bolt holes toward the back of the engine, my exhaust gasket has a hole for this hole but it has no threads for a bolt and oil is pouring out when the engine is on. Mine is a Cappuccino engine but I think the head is the same. What is this hole for and why is it leaking oil?

      Hi Joseph, could you try send me a photo or two of where the oil Leak is and I'll take a look. My email address is andymechanic@live.co.uk

    What year is this car? I'm in the states, and I haven't seen a carburetored engine with vacuum advance since the early 80's.

    You mentioned that your wrench may need a recalibration. Do they tend to apply to much or to little torque when they loose calibration?

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Too little i think as the internal spring looses it's tension

    Please make a carburetor tuning video and air flow mixture of this engine. I have exactly this engine and spark plugs got black i think feul is more consuming. Please help me.

      +kamran alam +kamran alam Hi Kamran, sorry I can't make any more videos on the little Suzuki Alto as it has been sold.
      You are correct, it sounds like your engine is running rich. This could be too much fuel or not enough air. So make sure your air filter is clean first.
      If it's fuel then maybe the auto choke is stocking on? It needs to have a supply of hot Coolant to deactivate the choke - if your coolant level is low then it won't work and the choke will always be on so the engine will run rich.
      I don't recommend that you alter the jetting of the carb as this is unlikely to be the issue.

    • @kamranalam5321
      @kamranalam5321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andy Mechanic i am using water instead of collent. And filter and other this are perfect. I think the this matter ia due to water

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kamran alam No. It's not the water. Though you may have an air lock in the coolant pipes up to the auto chock on the carb. Check water is getting to it and that the pipes aren't going dry.

    I thought I had a leaking head gasket so I checked with google to see what I should do, one place said crack 2 eggs in the radiator, another place said put black pepper in the radiator, I couldn't decide so I did both, all I ended up with was a sloppy green omelette with too much pepper and a seized engine. I hope have better luck.

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +350munro haha! Yep....those aren't a fix, at best the egg white will block a small hole in the radiator to, maybe, get you home....but that's all. If head gasket blown and compression pressures are leaking into the coolant system then there is no hope!

    • @350munrohome
      @350munrohome 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit like that rubbish Wurth used to sell that was supposed to block a leak in an a/c system, all it did was block the tx valve then sieze the compressor.

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +350munro Damn....never tried it...
      Not many cars in the UK with air con! Not good though...will stay clear of that. Cheers Andy

      @350munrohome 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be hard to defrost a car in the UK without air con right?

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +350munro defrosting is easy as we use the heater but it does cause lots of condensation.

    Fix? Applying the same fix for the same problem and then expecting a different outcome. Isn't that the definition of insanity?

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +R. E. Hill Haha! Yes, but the real issue was a corroded block. It's still holding up this time around and replacement block just isn't available here in NZ unfortunately plus the car isn't worth spending that much on. Sometimes you just gotta do what you can in the budget. Cheers Andy
