    This week Kyle and his buddy Jesse headed up to the Upper Peninsula to fish for Lake Superior Salmon and Steelhead. In the morning, they did some shore fishing for salmon and steelhead and in the afternoon they hiked the river to float fish for steelhead.

    I fish Lake Erie from the beach with rocky bottom like that a lot. Seems like a shorter leader with no split works better. Setting the spikes at a lower angle so the rod isn't straight up and down seems to help too. Love the beach fishing content. I'd love to see more of it.

      Put your lead on a rubber band, if it gets tangled in the rocks you can just snap the rubber band and your only out an oz of lead

    Why is the hook like 4 inches from the bead? Wouldnt u want the hook right on the bead?

    • @AdventureChasing
      @AdventureChasing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you put the bead right on the hook you won’t get as good of a hookset into the fish because the bead gets in the way. I usually recommend pushing the bead 2 inches (about 3 fingers width) up from the hook!

    • @zachschultz3534
      @zachschultz3534 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdventureChasing gotcha. Admittingly im a big lake guy and not a river guy, so when the fish clamps on the bead it slides down and then the hooks gets them?

    • @AdventureChasing
      @AdventureChasing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      usually they just swipe in the general direction of the bead and get hooked. Sometimes the bead will slide down too but ideally they get hooked and the bead stays out of the way of the hook haha. We have a video on our channel on float fishing with beads, here is the link:

      Most people run 10-12’ medium or medium/light. 10 lb mono main, to an 8lb flouro leader is pretty common. I run 10’6” lamiglas x11 rods. 8lb main, 6lb leader. I also have a 12’ crappie hunter rod I use for surf fishing. I run a 4lb leader on that one…lol

    • @AdventureChasing
      @AdventureChasing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the Lamiglas Redline rods, but you don’t have to use anything in particular. Just something with a good backbone to launch the bait out far into the water and a fast/soft tip so you can see the bites.

    • @AdventureChasing

      The Lamiglas Redline isn’t too expensive and worlds well. It doesn’t matter too much which rod, you just want something with a good backbone to cast far out and a soft tip to see the bites. I like the Pflueger President reels!

  • @jayrobertson232
    @jayrobertson232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For a possible solution to those “short bites”, reduce your leader to 36”, ditch the split shot, and use a smaller spawn bag.

  • @ChrisG9978
    @ChrisG9978 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Try a plastic bead on those "surf fishing" rigs, similarly to how you'd rig for floats on a creek (couple inches above your hook). Also try using slightly larger circle hooks (similar to what you'd use for catfish, though go with smaller sized circle hooks) for better hooksets out there. Steelhead/salmon aren't terribly line or hook-shy. They're most interested in the bait you're using. I've hammered fish from shore on Erie using similar methods to you guys. Raw shrimp is often a money bait as well. Give it a shot.
