You can get a lot of impact out of (truly) easy running and strides alone. The cool thing about strides is you can switch them up. Sometimes I do 10/15 sec strides, other times I extend out to 30secs...occasionally I even drag them out to 60sec. They can really help the body learn to run hard and with better form, without building up a ton of fatigue. The tricky part is to ensure you are focusing on form, and only going as fast as you feel you are maintaining that form. Which is why most people say your strides should be 85-90% max effort.
whats even better about strides is that you up the lactate levels in your muscles/blood when u do them and the body learns to get rid of the lactate again after your tempo goes down again.
Building to 20 miles a week by Dec. Then will maintain that till January. That's when both our marathon training will start. Matt keep the videos coming to keep me motivated for all those cold winter runs!
Awesome. Thank you so much. It’s honestly folks like you that have stuck with me for a long time that motivate me to get out the door, run and make videos
I would add that a good tip is to sign up for your next race and map out your workouts for the week (could use a base building training plan). Knowing that there's a race on the [very distant] horizon is a good motivator for me.

Agreed!!! Always helps having something to work towards
How did you know I'm building my base again now!
Best time of the year to focus on getting strong and healthy
Solid tips there, Matt.
