And this storm didn’t wait until 15:00 (3:00 PM), either. I’ll never forget that day as long as I live. It was 1 June 2007. We were just finishing up our lunch and lining up to go back to my third grade class when the emergency sirens were activated. We ran to our classrooms, and the teachers closed the doors and the window shades as we students huddled in the furthest corner from the windows. My teacher did a pretty job keeping us calm by letting us have some good conversation, sing some songs, etc. The power went out and then the wind began to howl as the storm rapidly approached. The tornado itself came less than a kilometer from the school before it shifted direction and narrowly missed us. When we were finally dismissed for the day, the school made it through relatively unscathed, but the surrounding houses were either completely gone or in very bad shape. When I got to my house, however, not a single leaf fell, as if the storm never even happened. I couldn’t believe my luck. Fortunately, nobody died, although there were some injuries involved. My dad, as an orthopedic surgeon, fixed one of those injuries while I helped clean up the community ballparks on the following day.

We were never hit, but we were always so scared. I remember going on a drive with my parents and as we were going somewhere, we passed by a tornado alarm, and it went off immediately, we turned around and went back home. I wanna see where I used to live, and ask a neighbor of they still get those monthly since I last moved from there. I'm 14, I'll probably visit when I'm 18, 16, or 17. But it's been 10 years since I last lived there.

Just moved up from South Texas to the Midwest. Never heard a tornado siren until they did a test of them in the city I live. Scariest sound I’ve ever heard.

Same, my family lives on a private street so I didn’t have to worry about any neighbors, I grabbed a giant speaker and placed it in the backyard, I connected the Bluetooth and played the sound high (but not too high) and my family freaked!

I was 4 years old, I was in kindergarden, and I would hear this alarm every single month. Once a month, and I was always get scared out of my mind, and crying, or I would try to stay calm. I hated loud sirens then, I still do. We were close to one tornado, but we were okay. Even sometimes, in the night, or when we were relaxing at home, I would hear that sound. We were never hit, but we were always so scared. I remember going on a drive with my parents and as we were going somewhere, we passed by a tornado alarm, and it went off immediately, we turned around and went back home. I wanna see where I used to live, and ask a neighbor of they still get those monthly since I last moved from there. I'm 14, I'll probably visit when I'm 18, 16, or 17. But it's been 10 years since I last lived there.

Had to hear this just last night, along with the phone alert. I woke up to both with my kid yelling, "Mom"!!! I opened my eyes to ALL 3 along with repetitive lightening. I hated it

I experienced my 1st actual Tornado Siren yesterday... im from California and now live in the Midwest and was in the Line of Storms that came through yesterday. I have only ever heard them doing the Tests, not for an actual Tornado.
I moved from Los Angeles to Wichita in 91 when I was 10 and the sky turning black and hearing this while home alone was scarier than anything I ever delt with living in the city of LA.
