This is awesome. Wish I'd watched it before. I live in Scotland and almost ended up in Ireland today when the tide and wind changed :)

Sorry to hear that, but glad it has helped. We have a load of great videos coming out over the next few months too that you might find interesting as well. thanks Reuben

Sheeit honky, Ireland if you was lucky. I wouldn’t like my chances of successfully SUPing all the way to Canada 😂

I always check the wind forecast for week ahead ideally I want to avoid 15mph and over as can be quite exposed where I paddle and often the forecasts are worse due to gusts. Some great tips in this vid

Wind can be a great problem and offshore breeze can be a great deal of difficulty as well! Most of the time - the breeze was complicational to standing up on the paddle board. I found that out - last year at Clevedon and Weston super Mare! I'm hoping for better luck at Saltford tomorrow morning. One way or another - we shall see!

The wind is definitely your worst enemy on a SUP. Hopefully you had some nice conditions yesterday. Cheers, Beau

I usually try not to paddle directly in to the wind, but 5-15 degrees left or right. It similar to tacking on sailboat. 1-2minutes left tack, 1-2 minutes right tack :)

I guess that way you can paddle on one side the whole time until you change tack. Good idea. Thanks for sharing, Reuben

@@SUPboardermag Yes, exactly, I can paddle on one side until I change tack.

Good tips here. I just recently went out paddling on a lake, and traveled a fair distance in no wind. Then the wind kicked up and made it almost impossible to get back to where I started. Almost had a heart attack from paddling so hard, and just barely made it back. I am thinking of just getting an electric motor for my SUP since I almost got screwed.

Tricky situation you were in! An electric motor can be very useful and a good safety device for paddling into wind. Remember, we can check the forecast for the wind and plan our paddles to make sure that never happens. Stay safe! Beau

It was my fourth time out today (lake) wind ended up very strong behind me I could only get my board turned 180’, the “waves” seemed daunting so I just let myself drift to the other end and got off there and walked the whole way back carrying my board 🤣 this video was useful, I’ll keep in mind for next time if I can even get turned lol thank you!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully next time you can manage to manoeuvre the board. Cheers, Beau

Just got swepped two miles across a lake and had to walk 5 miles back barefoot on a dirt road 😂 needless to say I won't be paddling or walking for a couple days 😭

great tips i didnt knew..(im new) iwould like to know in windy weather with mini waves how i paddle?parallel to waves?across the wind? days ago i ended across marina.. hahha i had to walk almost half hour without shoes...

Paddling across the wind can be super hard especially if it's choppy. So you may find it easier to paddle into wind for a bit and then paddle back diagonally to where you're trying to go. This will make the waves not hit directly onto the side of the board and more at the back of the board which will be a little bit easier. I hope that makes sense thanks Reuben.

Inflatables are terrible in wind because of high waterline (not sure if that's what you used) but the most important factor in heavy wind is physical fitness. I can make forward progress in 25+ knots but it's extremely tiring and takes good technique... If you let up even for a moment you go downwind very quickly lol.
