Written for the A Cappella Academy choir (summer 2023), Softest Rains is an examination of the different ways we face adversity in the hopes of emerging stronger on the other side. The distinctive sections throughout this piece represent these different, sometimes conflicting perspectives on what is needed to improve our world -whether that means protecting what we already have, building something new, or something in between. With the kinetic architecture of the piece meant to evoke the movement of a hurricane, ensembles are encouraged to explore where they feel the eye of the storm in their performance, and whether the oncoming storm is one of devastation or hope.
