My favourite elf in fiction is Maed(h)ros from the Silmarillion and he is so beloved for me on a level that I keep (closet) cosplaying him and constantly drawing this character. :D

I love how in depth you go into etymology and historical context! so many fantasy/mythology videos only talk about myths themselves and not as much about the context around them. For me that gave everything you said more weight.

Edit: just got to the part of the video where she talks about this haha oops
I enjoy how the differences between how the Elves organize to flee Middle-Earth and when the humans need to organize to flee. Even the "lowest" elves have a job in that situation, are employed and are brought along. All members of their society have a place and have value, and such they all have a role, even in such a chaotic and fearful time.
But man doesn't embody what is, essentially a form of socialism, universal basic income, guaranteed Healthcare etc.
Don't mean to turn thus political but, I personally see the Elves as examples of idealistic socialist societies. Though, they certainly can be quite stuck up and do indeed nearly leave Middle-Earth to ruin.

oh my gosh, i hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way but i was SHOCKED to see that you don’t have more subscribers - the quality of your content and even just your presentation as a person is really top tier, if you keep going trust me there’s definitely some astronomical growth in the channels future (not that numbers is what it’ll all about though, of course ⭐️ making content that fewer people truly connect to is much more valuable than making content that more people simply consume passively) still, i’ll make sure to do my part and share! 🩵 but like i said, im sure you won’t need my help in the end :)

It's easy to say fairies aren't real until your tormented by one every night for 5 years of your childhood. People are still encountering them. When you understand that there is a multiverse and the possibility of there being 9, 12 or even infinite realities co existing parallel to our own mean that the chances of fairies being real far out weighs the the chances of them not existing. Not to mention the mountains of circumstantial evidence and the fact that cultures from all around the world have stories about them even before they started trading stories. Just because you have not experienced them, doesn't mean they aren't real, cause some of us have.

@@ailenalma 🤍 Yes, I do like that type of literature too, therefore I truly hope I can succeed in delivering cultural information while reworking it and creating an interesting plot. I had something very fast and silent fly right near me earlier this evening. All I actually saw was a wing that looked a lot like a dragonfly wing. I was walking through a wooded area at dusk through a natural wooden archway. I also saw something flit from one tree to behind another tree but I could not see anything when I got over to the place, near a gate at the end of the trees just before I was leaving the area.

The neutral angels theory for fae is one I personally sort of like. The idea that they are souls of children is one of heard where the idea of a neutral soul, is kind of a child who’s old enough to make choices and all but they aren’t like old enough to go before god and be judged for their choices, become fae, or playful trickster spirits. Interesting to think about hah

What were the sources that you used in this video? I'm in a creative drive at the moment and so I've been looking into fairies and folklore that talks about them to help me in creating characters. One of the books that I'm reading that is a wealth of information and imagery is _Good_ _Faeries_ / _Bad_ _Faeries_ by Brian Froud who also wrote a book subtly titled _Faeries_ . He's an award-winning illustrator and author who was a concept designer for The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. If you browse through the pages of either books, you can immediately tell by the illustrations how alike they are.
Also I had been looking away when you spoke the last bit of the outtakes and I thought you said something in Gaelic, but when I checked you put on that it was Spanish.

Great video! I would love more info on the old folkloric roots of fairies! I recently read "Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries" by Heather Fawcett, which is a fantasy novel written as the research notes/journal of the fictional Emily Wilde, an expert on faeries in a world where they truly exist. I mention this because the protagonist starts off by discounting the dangerous side of faeries, but their darker side comes more and more to the front as the book goes on. The book is set in the early 1900s. Given the info you provided in your video, I think it might have been a deliberate choice on the author's part to start with the Victorian disenchanted and child-friendly view of the fairies, and then peel back the layers to the older, enchanted, dangerous version underneath. Anyway, you might enjoy the book, and I am loving your videos and eager to learn more about the folkloric and mythological roots of fairies!

Tbh I wouldn’t compare elves to “queerness.” I’m a gay man and I don’t see it like that. I see it wayyy beyond our human concepts, including “gender nonconforming” since they aren’t human. We still try to make rules and labels for things when it’s not necessary 😅

Elves have gender, just like all of nature has gender. It's humans who want to be non- conforming. Nature is OK with being what it is.

Humans just can't get over and past themselves when it comes to control. The ego is like a boomerang. You can cast it out, but without fail it will return and need to be cast out again & again.🔥

people insert themselves into history to make themselves feel more important. thats why people add lgbt stuff to ancient metaphysical beings.

Should definitely include the bloopers after each video hahaha. Perhaps itstoo specific for a video, but i think a Galadriel analysis could be very interesting😁

Mab, toward the end of the Arthurian Age knew the Fae were to be relegated to the past, to forget and be forgotten....so she fought against this concept, even though it was a doomed fight....

I enjoyed your video, well done! I noticed that there was an avoidance of reference to the sexual and attractiveness aspect of fairies and elves. Probably more evident in Victorian age and our present age including the beginning of the elvish enchantment which really gained momentum in the 1960's when Tolkien really gained popularity. It seems to me that there is today a distinct separation in presentation of fairies in particular. There are those that visualize them as child like and there are those that visualize them as beautiful female entities that are not only facially beautiful but have exceptionally attractive and slender, sensual female bodies and almost without exception long flowing hair. There are some notable exceptions for there also some that are female but exhibit some male characteristics (shorter hair, and a tomboyish look and actions as in fighting /battling). I am not sure what that may mean and if it is an outcome of the changes that are occurring in society. It does seem to me to worthy of investigation and exposure . Thank You for your work and sharing it with us.
