- We are still in the Everglades, but this time we're camping with the alligators! This week I visited the Shark Valley area of Everglades National Park where I saw SO MANY gators.

Anti mosquitos check nitecore erm10 or erm05. Maybe that will help.
Erin you could try using garlic, coffee grounds and or vacuum your car's cracks and crevices. They would try to hide there. But since you are parking where there are water, trees and or plants? You figure what's best for you.
Good ideas! I just shut my doors and went inside this night and it wasn't too bad. the night before though was another story haha!

As someone who has only spent time in western national parks it's so interesting to hear how different the set up is for southern ones i.e. tours being kinda of a necessity - it's good to know! Also, I'm with you with wild animal shows, I don't mind some Sea Lion/Seal one's (if they are rescues) IF they are done carefully as the animals really seem to enjoy it, and they seem to fill an important educational niche, but for the most part...
Yes the difference in parks in Florida vs. out west are crazy! I'm used to being more spontaneous but the Florida parks have forced me to plan out my trip a little bit more and book these tours. BUT I have been so impressed by each park here, and I've never seen so much wildlife at a park EVER!!! and that goes for me too with the animals, I think it can definitely be done right but when they are breeding more animals and adding to problem... i just cant omg

Heck yeah Shark Valley
It's coming up on summer. Probably in August you ought to visit Isle Royale National Park. It's one of the least visited parks, and one of the most beautiful! If you really want to be adventurous, give it a try!

I had a boat ticket to go last summer but ended up taking a job in Yosemite and didn't make it! I feel like I want to go every year but it just get pushed back, which is embarrassing because I'm from Michigan!

As I've said before, I'd suggest trusting your instincts. But best to just take it on a case by case basis depending on the setting and context, etc. A man with a machete cutting some kindling in a private and paid for campground during the day is okay. A man with a machete with a mask on, creeping around your van in the middle of the night in a public, but secluded place is NOT OKAY 😅 Nice that you got to have a good chat with him 😊

if you run a fan, horizontally, in the van, the insects don't like it and won't stay in there. Get the fans going and they won't come in either. I have 2 usb fans in my van. fyi
and my fans only costs a little on amazon and use very little power

I don't know what's scarier, a Man with a Machete, or swarms of mosquitoes. Well at least the Man with the Machete was friendly, The mosquitoes, not so much. 🤥 Glad that you got the chance to tour the Everglades on an Air Boat. I agree with your thoughts on keeping the gators caged up. They should be free from captivity. The baby gators you saw by the side of the road were cute. 💚 Have a great trip back home.
