      The Tories (and their pro-Tory client media chums) are trying to move the goalposts in the minds of the public so that we don't consider a GE being held after May 2024 as being anything other than perfectly normal. When, in fact, holding out to the last possible second, before calling one, is political cowardice of the highest order. Shame on them.

  • @davidcolin6519
    @davidcolin6519 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

    Of course he will not call an early election. It's in the English. An early election would have been last spring, at a time when the Tories still had a chance in the GE.
    He won't call an early GE because, even if he called the GE tomorrow, it wouldn't be an "Early" one. That's because, no matter when he calls it, it will be way too late for the Tories. The party has effectively one sweet FA since BloJo's tenure. which is, I suppose an improvement of doing everything out of venality, hubris and greed, but it is hardly any better. And the longer they continue to sit down on the job, the longer the public realise that they are the least effective, most corrupt and laziest bunch of Sh*t-eating wasters that the country has ever seen. The longer this goes on, the longer the country see this.
    That suits me fine. The longer he leaves it, the more devastating the results are going to be.I honestly hope that we never see the likes of them again.

    Even though traditionally a low turn out, I think if the Tories get hammered in the local elections, I wouldn't be surprised if Sunak resigns due to pressure or he triggers an election. It's clear from the low by-election turn outs the Tory voters are firmly staying at home.
    The only way I can see the Tories having any chance in a general election is to offer a series of vital referendums within 12months of being re-elected. Net zero, immigration, Proportional representational voting, Bill of Rights. Even then I would give them a slim chance. Actually surprised Labour or even reformuk haven't actually offered this up to the public yet.

    Rationally, the PM will wait until between Nov 24 and Jan 25. However, events may force his hand to call a GE sooner. I don't know whether it's possible and it'll be cutting it extremely fine. If the Tories do very badly with the local elections, could the PM be spooked into asking for an audience with the King on Fri 3rd May at about 7am or 8am to call for a dissolution of parliament, before enough letters of no confidence in the PM get to the 1922 committee?
