I clearly remember when i first heard Drive in my walkman. I was 19, in the bus back from work. It was dark and raining outside. I first recognized Michael's voice and i instantly knew REM knocked it out of the underground park. That bus ride will always remain burned in my brain.

Night Swimming is my favorite. Automatic for the People is one of those disks you just play over and over. Night Swimming is those summer nights that led to sweet moments as a teenager, when you long for someone to see you and love you, and maybe for a few minutes you share that with someone.

I love that one. The chorus is so, so strong.
I also love UP, despite Bill's sudden departure being such a shock (and scary, with his health scare). But the electronics on that is so fun and interesting (they didn't have the heart yet to get a drummer, so they used keyboards etc.). Very unique. Check out PARAKEET, AT MY MOST BEAUTIFUL. Oh and WALK UNAFRAID, it saved my life...
      Cheers JB! x

R.E.M. is one of my all-time favorites!! I'm loving how much you are really GETTING their vibe and meaningfulness. I always felt so connected to their music in my soul, and it TRULY has helped me thru some tough times. Particularly, I went thru a lot of bad stuff growing up, and I can honestly say R.E.M. helped me reach adulthood alive. So yes, I cannot recommend enough that you keep listening :)
Most of my personal favorite songs come from their earlier albums in the 80's (the album "Fables of the Reconstruction" probably my top of those, but it's hard to pick!). Most of those songs don't have any music videos, but I can still definitely recommend "The One I Love" from the album "Document."
From their 90's music, my favorite videos (besides the ones you've done) are "E-bow the Letter," "Strange Currencies" and "Man On the Moon" (which is a song for the comedian Andy Kaufman who died of cancer in the 80's and is so sweet and touching). Those songs are more like the ones you've already done, with a more somber mood and an emotional depth.
But if you'd like to just smile and have some fun, they've got videos for that too! "Stand," "Shiny Happy People" (obviously lol) and "It's The End of the World" (not so obviously!) are good for a more upbeat mood.
And if you continue to love their music, please do yourself a favor and keep listening to their albums on your own. Good journey!

Man on the Moon is another great song off this album! But you have so much to discover from them, they've been around since 1980 and have loads of music videos. They had a real sense of poetic artistry, though they did have very lighthearted pop and rock songs as well. They were part of the "alternative rock" and "college rock" scene back in the day and have a very distinct and recognizable sound, with Peter Buck's jangly guitars and Michael Stipe's always beautiful vocals. I'm so glad you're getting into them.

The thing about REM is that their lyrics frequently don't make much sense, but they are exceptionally talented at making art out of sound to evoke a feeling. If you try to break them down line by line, the stuff frequently doesn't work; but just listen and go with it without analyzing it and you get the aural version of looking at a Monet.

This is indeed a deep song, probably my favorite of theirs. About the alienation of youth, who are often left wandering aimlessly because adults who should be guiding them leave them to the whims and influences of the crowd, just like the man in the video bouncing around at the mercy of those around him.. At least that's the way I see it.

I already posted the same thing (for all intents and purposes) on that "Estranged - Guns & Roses" video that got a Strike, but you may not have seen it so I thought I'd post it here too.
I was looking at those old rap songs you did the other day ("Can't Touch This -- MC Hammer" and such), and you were talking about how, as far as you were aware, modern rap is all about violence and drugs and destructive shit. So, I was thinking, if you are interested in some more modern (2013 and thereabouts) rap songs that are truly artistic, deep, powerful, and straight-up some of the best songs I've ever heard .....well, then I highly recommend Stromae.
He's a Belgian rapper (International music is nearly as good as Old music) who raps in French. Luckily, quite a few of his videos have English subtitles. Two that I can think of immediately: _Formidable_ includes the subtitles in the video, and for _Papaoutai_ you can turn them on in the TH-cam settings. Both songs are great introductions to Stromae.
For now, let's watch some R.E.M......

correction: Country Feedback. But yes, one of their lesser known but an absolute gem. I never really paid attn. to the song (and I had the album), but on some music forum about a decade or so ago, many of the members there has this song listed among their all time favorite songs (not specific only to REM, but just in general). Which prompted me to revisit it. And Country Feedback become a favorite for me too.

please, please, please, do Paul Weller, "you do something to me or Changing Man" or do Paul Weller in the Jam... or Long Hot Summer by the Style Council, also Paul Weller. You are missing a huuuuuuuuuuuge chunk (nearly 40 years of British music influentials.) He is the modfather of modern music.
