      Poor Yogev! I rember Frederik saying in an interview that the Band does not play I live because they don't rember how to play it 😂 maybe he can teach Meshuggah how to play their own songs...

      The whole point of his video is to figure out the recurring patterns. I would see no point in analyzing "I" which is for the most part not repeating. At this point you're better off with just a tablature

    Incredible as always. I can't believe you've developed an online meshuggah calculator. That is so awesome. Interesting that the final riff actually feels like it goes against Meshuggah's usual philosophy and the feel definitely becomes dominated by the "guest". There is an unnatural emphasis because of that '2' triplet subdivision that means the 4/4 feels totally occluded (must be sooooo hard to play...) and the 4 triplet phrase to bring it back around also just feels jagged... I suppose it could be viewed that the rhythmic mechanism is mutilating and distorting until it becomes something undeniably grotesque... however, the fact it still exists within the host's parameters do go to show an unwavering dedication to their method, even though on this occasion it would've been easier on the ear to miss out those final 4 triplets... perhaps it is conceptually leaning into the final throes of the machines torture method - that the victim is now twisted and beaten beyond all form and function by the exquisite machine, yet it is still living and existing in this world, just barely barely compatible with life...

I also love triplets and gravitated towards this song. Despite playing along hundreds of times (drums) over the years, I just gave up on counting it out. So, thanks for your time, effort, and illustration. So much to still learn.

    I wonder what David Bruce Composer thinks of Meshuggah. That Zappa collaboration video Yogev did with him is insane!

    What is your favorite song title by Meshuggah? I'm not a fan so I don't know all but mine is "Straws Pulld At Random" idk but something about it feels so brutal to me... Great video as always!

    Question from a guitarist.
    I have been dealing with a counting problem and I hope you can shed help me tackle it.
    Say you are counting "1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and..." and so on at a moderately fast tempo. The kick is on all the downbeats and the snare is on all the "and". (Example: The "infedeeeeeel" part of Now You've Got Something To Die For by Lamb Of God, or basically any Slayer song lol). When I play guitar to this particular type of beat, after a bar or two I start hearing the snare as the downbeat and I mess it up.
    How can I get over this? I've been told to practice it slowly but that doesn't seem to be helping me at all. I can't even imagine how people keep time over this beat. Am I rhythmically handicapped?

    If you ever want to pick up the Top Riffs of Catch 33 or In Death, maybe get in contact with MetalMusicTheory. He's working through the entirety of Catch 33 right now.

    it would be more accurate to say the time signature is 12/8, technically speaking

    • @YogevGabay
      @YogevGabay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That very much depends, but 12/8 works as well!
