Same here, I find him completely engaging and love the junkyard walks. At the moment here in the UK I'm watching re-runs of 'Kojak' and shows like this are helping me identify the cars I see on the programme. Shows like this and Roadkill (the YT ones, obviously) are unfortunately making me want to buy a late 60s/early 70s US saloon/sedan with a V8 in it...
@@shaunclifton5281 Well...in MotortrendOnDemand there's a show called "Junkyard Gold" hosted by Steve Magnante (a Freiburger's personal friend), and that guy is a goddamn car encyclopaedia even bigger than David. You'll love it...search the pilot episode here in youtube, where he goes deep on a Mopar junkyard. :)
Funny couple of things though - he didn't mention the 9 slot grille, which Jeep (the modern company) can't use, because Ford created it. He also slipped - the Jeep was not truly designed by Willys. American Bantam, the US affiliate of Austin, designed the prototype. It was smaller and had other different details. The US government knew AB couldn't make enough, and wanted changes, so they had Willys and Ford work up their own variants, then created a final design that they granted to Willys, and licensed to Ford. So in truth, a child company of a British make designed the 'very American' Jeep.
SirEuchre American Bantam, Butler, PA... The next county over from my hometown. AM General is also related to American Bantam in some way... Can't remember exactly how tho. I always like it when people kno who actually birthed the jeep. 👍
I caught the Chevy Malibu as the older model. We have a 71 and it has the exact same taillights. I knew it wasn't the newer car. He caught it right away too.
It is amazing that that is only US cars. He knows every detail about every US cars, including totally irrelevant details. But then he is dancing around a Jaguar MK2 and ignoring it and he likes the Volvo because it looks like a Ford?! I think that when there was a Ferrari he would have said "and then there is this car with a horse logo that looks like a Corvette". And (here) in Europe it is the other way around. We have some ' nerds' that know a lot about european cars, but don't ask too much on US cars.
Matthijs Hofman It's called nostalgia. I had a 1972 4 door Ford Torino with a 302 when I was in high school, the car floated like a boat and wobbled over 80mph but I would take it back over any Jaguar or Ferrari just for the memories. Yes the memories were mostly made in the giant rear bench seat instead of drag racing wins lol.
Freiburger is literally a walking encyclopedia for cars I can't believe how many small facts he knows about every series, make and year. Love the content guys :)
he might be getting a few things wrong as pointed out in the comments but that doesnt mean he doesnt know what hes talking about. the amount of information this guy has stored in his head is unbelievable. its addictive to watch and listen to someone who shows so much passion, even if i do think he is abit of a nob
He doesnt back down from any of the vehicles really. Its not like he is picking and choosing only cars he knows something about. He goes from one to the next on down the line and has info on all of them. Total dork. Love it.
Automatically one of the best, most interesting 'streams' on this channel; Freiburger is in great part a convincing historian on most old American cars, and a great storyteller. It's great to just watch and listen to him wander about and chat about old stuff.. If he ever wants to go 'solo' and score hits, the last few vids of him doing this are great demos, and I'll certainly watch :)
Yes, at 5:03 you do see the front end of what is probably a 69 Mach 1. And at 14:22 you also see a 73 Mach 1 to the right in silver. PS. I woulds love to get my hands on those Mach 1's, that Cougar and a few others I saw.
The junkyards should be incorporated into more episodes. Nothing better than a junkyard walkthrough with cameraman! Great segment and I hope to see the Caddy build! Chuck in Kansas
highpower3006 that was exactly my first car, saved up and bought for 2,500. was a mess when I got it "lowrider" complete with 12 rims, hydraulics, and chrome everything. I stripped all of it out (not the chrome) and put it back on its stock suspension and rims. That was a sweet ride. now I have a 70 mustang grande
More of this. I would literally watch hours upon hours of Dave walking through junkyards pointing out cool finds and dropping useless but interesting vintage automotive knowledge.
Dave...your free association car identification in this video has been one of the most fun things I have seen you do.....going through so many of the cars of my generation that I have loved.....so love your show....
that is a 64 model impala or belair you can tell by the side body mold. 63 has single bottom line and 64 had bottom line that continues to the top and makes a double line.
Three pop out tail lights make that a '65 Impala. A belair will only have two lights poping out. '64 has inset tail lights and a 67 has a single bar light on each side, I only know this because my brother had a '65 for a while. As you know when you are personal with a model you tend to learn all the recognizing criteria.
I believe that Mercedes is actually a c107 450slc. It looks European as well, thanks to the shorter bumpers. It's a really neat optioned car as it has hubcaps rather than the bunt pan alloys.
Hey I actually watched some of your vids few years back! Nice to see you on a Roadkill video. I have a 91 EU Park Avenue, wish it was as clean as yours though
This is Awsome thanks man love seeing the old junk from the U.S thats worth saving. Being Canadian i NEVER can see old cars in junkyards there all crushed R.I.P.
theo jeter - Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Easy-E might've had a different body style in mind (though the stance matches up beautifully). ;) Didn't mean to make it sound like I'm bagging on Freiburger, though. The man's knowledge about rolling iron has few peers - just that he made a slight mistake on the white Chevy sedan here, is all. Really digging on the Ranchero & El Camino, though. Thought the Ranchero was slid over to the Falcon when Ford introduced the compact model in 1960? Not sure - but the 1957-1959 full-size Rancheros and 1959-1960 full-size El Caminos (discontinued until 1964 when it was slid over to the new Malibu/Chevelle model) absolutely *killed*, IMO.
Reminds of when I was in high school. My buddy and I would spend just about every Saturday morning rummaging through Junkyards checking out the cars and buying parts.
That's because the Falcon and Ranchero were the same cars underneath. Just like the Chevelle/El Camino. In one of RCR's car show video's he runs up to a Ranchero saying "Falcon, Falcon, Falcon!" and looks at the back and goes "Oh, Ranchero."
This works. I knew a lot of this(glad you gave the dart a nod), and learned you know a lot more than I do about the earlier car models. In high school in the late 70's a guy had a Studebaker truck and it was a tough truck, in every sense. The low rider guys love every year of early Chevy's including a guy at work has a '64 Impala, one of many in the city. This is so much fun to watch, and will work for quite a few episodes.
14:21 was my favorite part. Point's and says the year, make and model of a car. I'm here wondering, where the car is that he's speaking of. Turns out, it's that almost gone shell. How you could tell what it was that specifically, I will not know. And here I thought I was good at recognizing cars.
Even more props for the Q&A session held from the back of the E100. Think you could convince Finnegan to put the boat motor in that van? Because . . . Roadkill. (???)
What about the 69-74 Econoline that was out there! Im pretty sure it was a shorty too 😫 the falcon is sick but the mid panel van has me dying. I wanna save it!
Dude, I could watch these Junk yard vids all day.... I couldn't have a junk yard; I want to rebuild them all. Dude that Ford/Jeep Flatty is Awesome. Luv to own that
I had a 1962 ss impala I loved the body and love the chrome. I got it because everyone was running novas and stuff like that so I went there and had the car for over 20 years...just loved it

Does anyone know whats behind the red corvette? you can see the back of it at 8:05 and some of the front at 10:34 almost looks like some 70s concept car, that windshield looks really cool.
My favorite years for an Impala are 59, 61 and 65. It's pretty impressive that Chevy changed the body style every year until the 70's. Like the 65 and 66. Most people know that they changed the tail lights but also the front end was changed with lines favoring the horizontal lines of the 66 fender over the vertical lines on the 65. Today we have computer designed cars that change, maybe, in 5 to 10 years. I'm not normally a large car guy but I would love to have one of those three years of Impala.
shame on you for knowing so much but mistaking a 64 Chevy for a 63 lol but I'll leave it at that because I'm sure a lot of people will be beating you up over that!
I know they get flack for MTOD and a decline in perceived quality of videos, but what a great extra episode. It sounds like the late 60's were some of the best times for American cars. I really hope to one day have the resources to rescue a classic vehicle from a junkyard (maybe not like the ones in that yard, they seem too far gone). Also of note, when I think Studebaker, I think of an old small pickup truck that sat for years in the backyard of the private elementary school I attended. I know the owner of the school, and the last time I was at his house the Studebaker was under their front overhang by the front door all fixed up, new glass, new wheels. What an unforgettable style those had.
I'll go out on a limb and say that there isn't anybody younger than Freiburger that knows more about postwar American cars. This man should be in a museum
Love the junkyard reminds me of so many I've worked on in the past 65 Impala I have one myself it's a keeper friend had a 67 cougar back in the day and we did a four-speed it made a hot rod out of it wish I had that back today love the show and all the stuff you guys do to these cars
A week with Freiburger and Finnegan on a place like that got to be a typical "Bucket List kind of thing" Roadkill is one of the best car related shows on TH-cam, And I look forward to the next time those two guys go on a roadtrip :-D
YES, the '65 Impala was great. i had one. It went form 283 PG to 327PG to 396 T400. It went to disc brakes from the '70 Impala. It also got a 12 bolt. I actually raced against a '70 big block el Camino,, down the Grapevine with both of us towing a flatbottom. It had cut-down Station wagon springs to maintain stock height with more load capacity. I had a 3-barrel Holley for a while,,, kinda big. Those cars looked damn good.
The vehicle knowledge that this man possesses is just astounding. I could watch this for hours
Me too, Thomas. I wish that was a whole format for a show.
yea i know! he knows sooooooooooooooo much

Maybe he doest know a thing about it and just walk by it because of that
AND he skipped over the Pontiac :(

ugliest model of Jag thats why

that jag looks like the clock from beauty and the beast

Wrong on the Chevy Biscayne - it's a 1964.
Flat ends both front & rear plus model emblem placement on the rear quarters = 1964.
I was thinking the same thing.
definitely a 64
who cares
SwingMan1938 crusin down the street in my 64

Blue Infinity it really does.
Blue Infinity RCR FAN!
That's because the Falcon and Ranchero were the same cars underneath. Just like the Chevelle/El Camino. In one of RCR's car show video's he runs up to a Ranchero saying "Falcon, Falcon, Falcon!" and looks at the back and goes "Oh, Ranchero."

How dose he know so much omg!
Cause he old.
James Hamilton Knowledge
James Hamilton just get into cars, and stay into cars for 30 or so years, and then you'll be an encyclopedia as well.
Old helps, but nothing to do with it...
his an old car guy lol
So much knowledge! I could watch this for hours. Definitely hope you do more.

WTF is that small truck thing at 4:29
Looks like a really old Cushman utility vehicle, just a guess though.
SPG its those utility viechles at schools and parks for the janitors
I'm a Ford guy - but do LOVE a two-door Impala - '69 LOVE!!
shame on you for knowing so much but mistaking a 64 Chevy for a 63 lol but I'll leave it at that because I'm sure a lot of people will be beating you up over that!
Jed Petersen I'm glad somebody else noticed that it was a 64 not a 63.
Love the juckyard walk around it's nice to see old junkers that might have a chance to live again with a little TLC!
Wow, i'm sorta first!!!
See, nobody cares :|
Erik Bakker same
sorta? gtfo!
The amount of knowledge this guy has... It's simply astonishing.
also - 67 impalas are amazing!
I've watched this a few times, but finally noticed the DisgustStang in the background about 5:40..I sure like the junkyard tours!
Wow, Freiburger knows so many details about the cars on that lot. A great episode. I'd have a go on that flat fender WW II Jeep.
Walking through a yard like this would make my day.
I'll go out on a limb and say that there isn't anybody younger than Freiburger that knows more about postwar American cars. This man should be in a museum
I'd pay so much to be able to have a walk around a junkyard like that with Freiburger and listen to him nerd out and learn from him.
I could literally watch episodes of just this.
I love these episodes. The man is a walking Wiki!
I demand more Junkyard Free Association.... It is AMAZING! UNLEASH THE FREIBURGER!
