I hear you. 👍🏼. I enjoyed the Advent Calendar (my first but maybe not my last 😅 ) for the novelty and little joy it brought me for 25 days. Most of the trinkets are cheap and tacky. I liked the metal badges and stitch markers and a few others. The rest was junk. The hooks are terrible, I’m spoiled by my Tulips and Clovers. I gave up on the calendar project after 6-7 days. The written ”pattern” instructions were lacking and very minimal. The daily videos were poor quality (I’m spoiled by excellent free TH-cam tutorials), the lady constantly held her thumb over the part I wanted to see and no real close ups. I really really dislike the yarn (cheap and tacky), it feels like those microfiber cleaning cloths and my skin hates the feel of it. I am going to use the yarn and make a very expensive $$$ 😂 dog blanket for my future pet. I have thought more than once about subscribing to their boxes but after watching unboxings, the value never seemed to be there (especially if you live in the US it’s expensive). I look at Crochet Society as a cult. They could do so much better with both boxes and calendar. The packaging is nice, the contents are cheap. I love watching unboxings like yours that are real, not just the usual influencer-mercials (like the Hooks and Needles box that everyone is unboxing). Won’t subscribe to that one either. I've watched others open these boxes over the years and in most cases I haven't liked the yarn they give nor have I liked the projects. Of the projects you shared I liked the gloves the most. I do think the notions they send are cute but I'm not going to buy the box for that. Now, does a company do monthly notions box?
I only started watching you about a month ago. I had another question. Have you tried out the Darn Good Yarns subscription box? I won three small cakes from another podcaster that came from the box they do and they do recycled silk yarn. I signed up for it the other evening so if you don't get it I'll let you know how I like it.

While I, personally, have some mixed feelings about this company, I have lots of their yarn in my stash and I have no problems with recommending them.

I agree with everything you said as a new crocheter I thought it was just me but the patterns are so badly written and the wool is rough and cheap I will not be buying anymore boxes from them.
Absolutely! I think we are all better off putting that money towards a better quality yarn and a pattern we actually like and can get some use from.
I got the advent in 2023 and was so unimpressed with the choices etc. I kept the box and made my own advent for 2024. The colour ways, the cheap gifts etc. were so disappointing! I can also see crochet hook repeats from last year so I’d be gutted if I’d bought the advent this year too!

This was a fine example why ALL subscription boxes are a rip-off - you pay a price for premium yarns (like alpaca, merino/silk) but you get cheap acrylic - you get crap promo materials as your "free-bees" and patterns that are claimed to have a $5/$6 value but are available for free with a quick online search
I agree with what you say. The horse one made me laugh because I did exactly the same lol. Long legs, couldn't even force it into the plastic bauble, which ended up in the bin. The calendar I'm having the same experience. Its an improvement on last years disaster. But this will be my last advent. Feel like I'm only doing it to use up the wool and this shouldn't be the case. Bought before I saw the pattern, wouldn't have got it otherwise. The wool is not my favourite, the plastic gifts, fun but tacky and unnecessary. Would prefer just a few quality items spread out over the boxes rather than lots of daily plastic tack. I have a love hate relationship with crochet society. I subscribe then unsubscribe. Some boxes and projects are beautiful. Most do not blow me away. Scheepjes box coming up in a couple of months, which is my favourite wool company, hanging on for that one box then I'm afraid we will part company. Unless something changes for the better.
