The old man is a watchman. Some guys apparently who knew him drugged him by putting something in his food, so he fell asleep and they robbed the place. The old guy was found sleeping and blamed for using drugs or alcohol on duty and pretty much was blamed for robbery. Those guys are apologising for what they did to him. But when the old man's daughter sees them, he doesn't tell her what they did.
