    *Fantastic 💯🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*
Yes,indeed Carmarthen is really old- lots of historical stories- I have seen the amphitheatre- it’s very unassuming,I was actually surprised because it didn’t look like it on the pavement,as everything has been built around it.
There are many underground tunnels running through the town. Some connected to the old castle where there was a jail and apparently monks used it too. Have been just inside one- really spooky.
They still do coracle fishing- just a few actually do this now.
When the storms bringing much rain occur with the higher tides- it is literally a sea across the river valley- the low lying farms houses and buildings often get flooded. In following the direction of the river, above natgaredig is dryslwyn castle- and what a sight of the towy valley there is from it.
There was a disaster there ,must be 10-15 yrs ago now. Children were playing and a boy fell in,ten yr old. Despite a long time searching, they never found him. The towy is most definitely dangerous as well as captivating

Thanks, that's very interesting, did not know about the tunnels, so much history at Carmarthen, sad that a lot of it gets lost over time. Carmarthen does seem prone to flooding. Sad story about the child who drowned. The Towy is a not the easiest river to paddle but most of it's OK as long as the water levels are right and the scenery is so rewarding. We kayaked from Dryswlyn castle to Carmarthen a couple of years ago, will get round do doing the video of it at some point!

Thanks, yes, the Towy is a great river, one of the best we've paddled. It's a beautiful valley and Carmarthen has a lot of history at the end of the route

@@TheKayakCrew Nice! It's great to be able to follow afar and learn more about these locations, both for inspiration and for potential future paddles - I'll be heading over there some year as part of my #paddlingin100cities project. Will get in touch when that happens for tips or to see if a joint paddle trip with you guys can be synced 🙂

@ that would be great. Let me know when you are coming to the UK, be great to meet up for a paddle. If you want any suggestions on where to paddle here then let me know. Your 100 cities is an amazing achievement, I’m super impressed

@@charles-mr4oz No problem. By way of elaboration, we had a good chat with a local angler on the bridge before we launched. He explained that there are only a fraction of the former fish stocks in the river and far less anglers use it now. I have heard of some kayakers getting grief off anglers but we did not get any and we've paddled sections of the river all the way down from near Llandovery. I'd still recommend paddling the non tidal section outside of the fishing season personally, just to avoid potential conflict. Most anglers are OK, but there seem to be a Bolshy minority (as with anything I guess).
