    If anyone is wondering, the restaurant kept working good and food was delicious. Sadly, the restaurant was sold and closed around 3 years after the episode was filmed, as brothers wanted to start farming ventures and food tours. They successfuly opened family farm and are still in the business.

      @Julie Weaver if addiction was just a choice, why can't most people just stop by choice?
      Because it's not a choice. Especially opioids are hard to get off. That's why the U.S. is struggling with an opioid crisis since the end of the 90s. Pharmaceutical companies know this. Its highly addictive substances.
      Also, let's not forget the genetic and environmental causes. Addiction is not a choice. It's a chronic brain disease. Otherwise, everyone that touches alcohol or other drugs would become an addict because they chose to drink/take the drugs(medicine included). Drinking or taking drugs doesn't make you an addict.
      All in all, addiction is not a choice, it's a compulsion. It's the brain telling you to take whatever substance it needs.

      That comment is so full of semantics. Addiction can be a tragedy because a tragedy is defined as an event causing great suffering. Getting clean is a choice and even more than that it's a journey, but no one sets out taking heroin to get addicted to it, just like no one chooses to be trans.
      Besides, addiction especially with IVing can cause irreversible damage and calcification/scarring of your blood vessels, that's why people switch to using their legs, then chest, and if absolutely necessary their hands.
      There are lifestyle diseases where your symptoms can be either completely stopped or the progression of which can be stopped by changing and maintaining a specific lifestyle and taking your medication, type 1 diabetes is one of these.
      Also if you think that psychiatrists trusting kids that say they're trans are the ones destroying lives, guess what buddy, you're the one destroying lives. I highly doubt you've got any broad experience in mental health, addiction, or damn near anything. You have a weird antagonistic tunnel vision and I recommend you stop judging others and go outside some more to talk to different kinds of people and broaden your horizons, cause it's really quite sad.
      Hope you never end up being at the other end of the stick when it comes to narrow-minded clueless judgement. Or maybe I hope you do, and manage to connect how it feels to your own opinions.

    This episode actually make me so sad because im a chef too and i’m feeling helpless in the industry also. Just gonna comment here cuz the video is probably old and no one would read the comments anymore. I’m a chef for 6 years, it wasnt my passion but i had to follow it when i first moved to Canada as my original passion is soccer met disapproval from parents. I chose cooking and turned out I’m actually have some talent in it. Slowly i became obsessed with fine dinning food style and have a job at a great restaurant until now. But then i just feel so defeated everytime i show up for shifts, and if i do i wouldn’t have complete uniform, my attitude is not great, i couldn’t focus, i still send great food out but i just didn’t feel like it because i realized that the industry doesn’t care about cooks, they work 60+ hours a week and spent 3/4 of monthly income just to pay the bills. Along with so many other reasons that affected my life and i slowly burnt out, i couldn’t get out because i have never done anything else but cooking and then i slowly lose my passion, till a point where i think to myself everyday that i couldn’t do anything right and im a failure, i tried to killed myself twice when im alone and i just wished i had someone to tell me like the wife tell frank that its ok to be broken. Ive been living carelessly and most likely in denial in the last few months and this episode actually got to me. I know my problem is nothing compare to the guy in this video but i still understand his anger and depression. I hope he is doing ok now, and i hope all the cooks in the world will be more happy.

      The industry does destroy cooks, and only a select few get recognition. Owners use cooks and throw them away...owners try to use people as much as they can because the margins is small. The entire industry is kind of broken because food costs are so high compared to cooked food, they make most their money on wine. Look into related fields: you can do better catering, or baking, or anything you can make your own. Cooks, especially in medium and small restaurants, can wear you out and you end up on your feet for 6 hours. Its also a heavy drug/alcohol field, with many addicts. Get enough skill to go into teaching, thats a better option.

      Make an experiment by making a dish and freezing it for 2 weeks, then schedule a day where you make the same dish and eat half portion of the fresh and half portion of the defrosted, and you can try two ways: microwave or re-frying, re-cooking. You should be able to tell apart based on texture, and taste. Could be a good practice :) In some episodes I can distinguish it from the way it looks even, no need to taste. Defrosted food is often way more watery, meat can be really dry, pasta will be either really mushy or dry (depending on how it was reheated) or just lose the texture. I am no chef or cook, but we cook a lot at home and freeze some portions if we have too many portions, so we have something if we have a "lazy" evening. So it does differ, and it differs depending on the way you are reheating ot :) Even by freezing and defrosting pasta dough you do destroy it, I have done that and never did it again... :D

    • @Solarityxx
      @Solarityxx ปีที่แล้ว +9

      To determine if a food is frozen or fresh depending on its texture and taste, usually a frozen food taste bland and worst-case scenario its like cardboard or rubber. For foods that are stored a long time ago they have an awful smell even if it's cooked already.

    I feel sympathy with Anthony. As a former addict I can tell you that when you're craving it can become so intense that you'll rob, steal and beg without a thought. When you come round you realise the errors you've made but it's a vicious circle. However when you do become clean you have to be real in your regret, make amends and prove you've changed through action. It's a long road but regaining trust helps but being constantly reminded of your past hurts.

      Firstly Daniel M, well done to you for breaking away from the addiction. Addiction is not a choice, you didn't order it or pick choose off a menu (excuse the pun hehe). Addiction happens for so many a reason. I have just lived through 7years of my son being an opiate painkiller addict which started when he broke his foot while still at uni doing his PhD and he was prescribed painkillers/codeine to help him keep practicing. By the time the foot was fully healed the addiction had started. (i, his mum suffer with M.E and am prescribed a cocktail of very strong pain meds........) he stole all my medication to keep his habit going, to the point i was bed ridden and suffering my own withdrawals and horrendous pain due to not having my meds) he would lie, steal, borrow, make up reasons and stories just to get pity from people!!!! I couldn't walk away from him though, he was my first born and I always feared the worst. 3 years ago he finally went into recovery and is finally clean (I am so proud of him for that) only now he chooses to blame me for it all and refuses to have anything to do with me. I lost so much, my friends, my family, nearly my home by defending him through those years yet it is I whom is to blame. For me though I am just glad he is finally clean and free. I hold no grudges and would love my family back totally together and I wasn't the addict! So I am really proud that you found the strength you needed to kick your addiction. x

His own father totally ignored him while it was happening and now his father is like a god as far as my son is concerned! As someone who’s only 23 and a recovering alcohol addict, it really is so important to have a support system by your side and as much as you could go to groups or go to therapy or see specialist, there’s nothing that means more than family I will say. For Gordon to have the struggles in his own family which if you haven’t done your research please; it really is such an impact not just on the single person but the family so when that person finally finally strives and has the passion to show change, it is important to help support and encourage them and help them through those times because unfortunately I hate to say it… we didn’t choose those lives. Those lives ended up, unfortunately, taking over us at our worst and most vulnerable weaknesses and times in life.
