    Just picked up a 94 model 7.3 IDI with the turbo for $1,000. so far seems to be a pretty loyal truck. going to have to bondo the usual rust spots these trucks like to get but couldn't ask for a better deal with just 228k miles.

    • @TheUnsureFox
      @TheUnsureFox  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With a turbo, that’s an absolute STEAL. My N/A featured in the video was over $4000, but I paid for low miles and zero rust, so it was worth it to me. But to have a turbo… The power difference between the turbo and the N/A is quite large.
      Great find, friend!

    ive been looking to buy a 6.9 idi but they're hard to find around here. dont want a 7.3 idi cause of cavitation issues that i just want to avoid ever thinking about.

    • @TheUnsureFox
      @TheUnsureFox  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can understand the security of not having to worry about the cavitation. The 6.9L just doesn’t quit, and so long as it’s not turbocharged, they (almost literally) can be treated like crap and keep asking for more. It’d be nice to see more aftermarket support for these engines, but at least there is some, so I can’t complain.

    • @steamftwin3249
      @steamftwin3249 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      if you run a coolant additive filter or just regularly test and charge your coolant cavitation is basically a none issue. I am currently running non-charged green coolant with WIX cool coolant additives for the ease of charging it myself (not supposed to mix SCA's why I like to pick my own)

      @@psd28 you can but it's still advisable to keep up on your coolant or add a coolant filter to any diesel motor. Cavitation will eventually come knocking on any diesel motor cooled by water it's just a matter of time

    Where did you get that tow capacity figure?

    • @TheUnsureFox
      @TheUnsureFox  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Which one? The 12,500lbs number? Straight from the owner’s manual. The 18k GCVWR is also in the owner’s manual.
      Payload capacity is the difference between your truck’s weight and the 10,000lb GVWR of a dually truck of this era. In the crew cab long bed diesel dually configuration of this truck weighs about 6,700 lbs dry. That gives you about 3,300 lbs of payload capacity.

    • @jakobwilkinson8088
      @jakobwilkinson8088 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      18k GCWR was a 7.3 auto with 5.13 diff ratio which was only available in a F-Superduty
      Maximum an F-350 DRW could to was 10,800 on a gooseneck/fifth wheel
      Fords capacities for these trucks was horrific considering what they can haul😂 my 350 c/c 4x4 7.3 can “only” tow 7900lbs but the same configuration with a 7.5 can tow 10k

    • @TheUnsureFox
      @TheUnsureFox  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I must, I shall upload a few-seconds long video demonstrating that my owners manual indeed says 17k GCVWR for the F-350 Dually with the 4.10 rear end and E4OD. My mistake on the 18k. It is 17, not 10,800 as you say.
      Also, max towing capacity for the crew cab long bed diesel this year was 11,900, per the 1992 towing guide.

    Can you calrify which auto transmission has the OD off switch?
    Also, is one automatic transmission more desirable than the other?

      I have a E40D trans in my 94 and I have the OD off switch

    • @TheUnsureFox
      @TheUnsureFox  ปีที่แล้ว

      The “E4OD” Is the one with the “OD OFF” Switch. The AOD was a 4-speed non-electronic auto that made it into a few trucks here and there, and then there is the C6 3-speed with no overdrive; just three gears. It is pretty stout, but a terrible transmission for highway travel due to a lack of overdrive. The only manual offered in the OBS body style is the ZF5, a five-speed manual.
