Learning a language other than your mother tongue is not all that easy.
My father insisted that I learn Hindi as my optional
language because Tamil would naturally be always with me.
I obeyed him.
But later when I lived in the cities up North if and when I spoke in Hindi , I would hear comments criticising my pronunciation, accent, expression and what not.
If I spoke in English in the UK or USA, effort is made to understand me and not make fun of my way of speaking.
There should be the effort on every Indian whose mother tongue is Hindi, to learn any one of the South Indian languages. Only then they would be able to appreciate the effort put into learning any language which is not your mother tongue.
Kudos to our honourable Finance Minister for her proficiency Tamil, Hindi and English.
