You're one of the best, Mazz! Thanks for this video. Well said, well presented! And you reminded me to get my hands on that that Lock Jaw box set from Craft. Keep pumping out this amazing content. Jazz is Mazz, Mazz is Jazz!

Just about had an epiphany. Not ONLY is it about the Music Stupid, but also HOW you talk about the records. And this of course is how and why your videos are so interesting. Just really appreciate these and how you intersperse your photography expertise. It is yet another example of a true mitzvah. Thanks for the Horace Parlan background info

He knows nothing about these records other than what he reads off the back of the cover. Listen to Ken McAuliffe's review of the Walter Bishop Jr. Live RSD release. It's like night and day. You can tell Ken actually listened to the LP before he made a video, but that is typical of Mazzy.

Well said regarding the limited edition/value topic. Buy it because you love the art and it’s value will always be priceless to you!

I am very happy to see a video of this more serious music. I was worried about the lack of videos but I guess I can't expect a video every day.. Have to say I got excited about this presentation. Good to hear talk about the higher end of music recording. Your passion for the artists is evident in your voice. This presentation sure grabbed me. Thanks for this gift of love for the artists.

Awesome overview of Jazz Mazzy definitely going to get The Bill Evans , Sonny Stitt at the left bank . I don’t have any Eddie LockJaw Davis box set it looks very interesting I’m going to pick it up on your recommendation and yes the jazz releases have been amazing the last 5 years this is Jazz renaissance period for unreleased and newly discovered gems. RSD is gonna be crazy so many killers.

Thanks for a great overview - I really hope to be able to get the Chet Baker and the Bill Evans albums.
Where the Chet Baker was recorded - Hilversum - is also where Bill Evans trio "Another Time - The Hilversum Concert" was recorded (Resonance Records). That is another GREAT record!

Great update son Jazz, Mazzy! I fully share your positives on the Andrew Hill and Carmell Jones releases. The Byrd at the Halfnote I love in particular for its powerful live sound. Horace Parlan is also my long time favorite and I am so glad to own most of the MMJ releases which are so well made.

  • @rixvspinner

That is a great pic of John Lennon Norman. Interesting selection of titles you talked about. I never see them in the stores although I have most of the Chet Baker albums I want. I would like the Andrew Hill album. His Black Fire on Blue Note is awesome.

Great stuff Mazzy. What you have said regarding the Shirley Scott LP aligns pretty much with what Ken Micaleff said in his recent review. Re polylined sleeves; buy your own and have them in stock. Your good friend Michael45 has a promo for Mint Sleeves (a company I use a lot) based in Canada. Excellent inner (rice paper) and outer sleeves. Highly recommend.

    • @mazzysmusic
      @mazzysmusic  ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah I’m not usually a stickler for poly sleeves, but when you’re creating limited editions, that extra premium seems like it should be included with these.

I was a few minutes late at my local record store (TOMS MUSIC TRADE Red Lion,PA) and another patron had the last Bish at the Bank. I hoped he would put it back in the bin but he didn’t.
Still looking for it. Maybe I’ll get lucky. 🙏

I was going to comment to check out that new Carmell Jones Tone Poet release and you had it at the end. That album is fantastic and the way that jacket is done is so nice. I wish all records came with that quality. I also recently picked up that Horace Parlan Quintet record. Great stuff. Check out Lou Donaldson's Blues Walk (BN Classics series). Great record.

Dang! You’re talking me into Chet Baker, Bill Evans and Walter Bishop. I was planning on picking up the Sonny Stitt already.
I really like Dance With Death. Probably my favorite one of his so far out of the all the classics and tone poets. I really love his arrangements with the instruments. It’s like he arranged them at the beginning and end of each song and when the instruments hand it off to one another.

hey mazzy..what a great collection of jazz..i love chet baker and shirley scott..i recently picked up an interesting chet called 'chet on poetry', his last concert..the sound quality is marginal, but the sound of late chet is always the best chet..i am very curious about that andrew hill album..i might have to seek that one out...hope neither of us are dancing with death anytime soon..stay well my friend..peace always..rocky

I really appreciated this video. As a Rock guy who his getting much ‘older’ I am intrigued by the idea of Jazz, but I’m also completely ignorant about it. I know I want to add different branches to my Musical tree journey, and I know I do not want to turn to country Music…Jazz is a candidate. I am drawn to your description of some of this as ‘intellectual’ because I have always liked my Music on the complicated side. Detail matters! I’ll be watching this video again. ✌️

Superb video Mazzy, I like Zev's discoveries, especially Bill Evans Live at Ronnie Scotts although the quality of the recording is not great, because it was recorded on Jack's pocket recorder. Zev needs to be more transparent imo on the hype sticker. Bernie cut it which surprised me.. I guess the historical significance is more important. I would like more clarity from Resonance though.. That Speakin my piece sounds lovely Mazzy ..cheers for that! That Carmel Jones is gorgeous!!!... loved Passing Ships and Black Fire but couldn't get on with that Andrew Hill.....and you're right! it's a golden age of jazz reissues!!

I was going to give the Shirley Scott RSD album a miss as I am not a big fan of the organ, but given that she's back in the mix and the wonderful George Coleman is more in the forefront, I just may have to pick it up. You've convinced me I should buy it. Not sure about the songs with Ernie Andrews but will give them a shot.
I should add, the Reel To Real releases tend to be less sonically pleasing, but the performances are always incredible and I have yet to hear one I didn't love.
