    Hi Michel, I just finished this series of 23 videos and I loved it so much that I plan to watch all your videos. As an amateur hobby scientist, where should I begin? Physics, maths or does it not really matter? I would like to be able to cover all the complicated topics as well.

    Hi Professor, Very nice series. Very informative, Very nice diagrams. I felt as if I had picked up learning from where I had left, after my Geography classes in school. I guess this is what it would have been the starting classes of Astronomy subject in a reputed institute had I pursued Astronomy as a graduation subject. . This series deserves more views. I will check out your other series and see what your 624K subscribers are into. Thanks a lot. :)

    Pretty interesting scenarios, now I understand why there will be another ice age. Previous to this, I just thought it was a cartoon movie. Now I have something else to worry about...high gas prices, inflation, rising world tensions, and now the impending ice age ; ) Excellent section, learned a bunch Michel. Can't believe this has only 11K views, don't folks want to be educated and be aware of our impending doom. No, they would rather click on a viral video of Gangnam Style or a cat video, thanks for trying to fix the dumbing down of America with your contribution...

    In the two diagrams showing the Earth's eccentricity, one has the earth axial tilt facing to the left and the other facing towards the right. I'm confused as to which is summer and which is winter. Can you please clarify this for me? Also, why is it that areas with more land (NH) are warmer than areas with more ocean (SH) despite the fact that areas with more ocean are closer to the sun?

      The precession of the Earth causes the axial tilt to rotate over a period of 26,000 years. It is summer for the northern hemisphere when the norther hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun. The difference in distance to the Sun (due to the tilt) is insignificant.

      There is evidence to suggest that Mars does indeed goes through climate cycles.

    in the past few videos, why is winter occuring in the perihelion when e = 0.017 as it is june in the perihelion and summer occuring in the aphelion even if that point is december, is the diagram flipped?

      The Earth's axis precesses on a 26,000 year cycle, which means that every 26,000 years, summer will occure at perihelion and 13,000 years later, summer will occur at aphelion continuously changing. That and the changing of the ellipticity of the Earth's orbit on 100,000 year cycles has by far the greatest impact on the climate.

    He doesn’t explain the reason for 2% distance change but 8% energy change. 2 cubed is 8 but he gives no formula. Just wondering.

    when you talk about 6.5% more/ less energy and 7.5 degrees less/more warmer, are you comparing it with energy and temperature considering average distance, i.e the actual differences are 13% and 15 degrees respectively at the extreme positions?

      6.5% is the difference between the extreme positions relative to the average.

    When e=0.017; Winter occurs at Perihelion.
    But when e=0.0679; Winter occurs at Aphelion.
    Why is that?

      We are able to predict what the eccentricity of Earth's orbit will be in the future (based on the orbital motion of the planets). We also know the precession of the Earth and we can predict what the direction of Earth's axial tilt will be in the future. The video talks about in the event when winter occurs at Aphelion and the eccentricity of Earth is 0.0679 the following climate can be predicted.

    Why does the earth's tilt change in the future?

      The Earth's tilt is always changing due to gravitational forces from the Sun, the Moon, and the other planets in the solar system. With each rotation and each revolution, the Earth experiences many gravitational forces from slightly different directions and since the Earth is a "top that is precessing" it will continue to wobble as it currently is.

      So in theory will the northern hemisphere experience summer climates in the winter months (Dec-March) and winter climate in the summer months (June-Sept)? And visa versa for the Southern Hemisphere.

      It can't be due to the forces, otherwise the rotational speed of change of tilt will constantly change so either precessional movement continues to increase with time or continues to decrease, there must be some kind of equillibrium if that has to stay in a cycle of about 26000 years. What do you think and how do you explain that if it is actually due to forces?
