These two are evidence that real music is being made while the country and the mainstream are distracted by the worst of human attributes. The beauty and the magnificence of true creativity never fades. Cary Ann Hearst is a national treasure IMHO. There are many others....seek them out..
WOWOWOWOWOWOW. They are so amazing. We saw them in Portland and I honestly haven't seen a better concert in ages. We just bought tickets to see them in April. THIS IS REAL MUSIC>
Oh how I miss Portland ! :) And I totally wish I could see them there ... or *anywhere* ... in a box with a fox, with a goat on a boat, in a house with a mouse, here or there, just *anywhere* ! :) Namaste ! :)
Was real nice to pick up on their tunes and to have them dominate my playlists via spotify, but to see this song expressed live is just pure religion. It's gorgeous beyond literal expression. What a marvellous act.
A good friend of mine shared this on Facebook last night and I finally got around to listening to it this morning. I'm digging it. It beats that crap they call bro-country that they play on the radio these days. Yuck. My faith in music is restored. Very well done.
wow I would give anything to play one song with these two my soul feels so rich when I listing to your music thank you so much from one musician to another and a loving and supporting fan
only seen em live and i refuse to listen to a studio recording. this is as close as i'll come. snuck into a show here in houston, never having heard of them, and they rocked my ass. love Shovels and Rope. so much love when they play together.
David Dickens is absolutely correct. Shovels & Rope are Excellent listening and also worth watching aswell. Really good pair together, very real. Loved the performance. Thank you guys will be keeping tabs on you and mentioning you guys as 'hot' to listen to to my pals. Thanks again.
I traveled through Oregon playing guitar and harmonica when I herd you do forsaken in the van it brought me back to my days in Oregon you really spoke to my soul
Going to see Tedeschi Trucks Band on 7/20/19. Shovels and Rope plus Blackberry Smoke are opening. Can't wait for this awesome night of incredible music! I am just now learning of Shovels and Rope and am so excited to see them live!
@@fritzhaber7310 Ha! Thanks Andy. I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed S&R's performance. Lots of energy and talent. I'm so impressed that they can play multiple instruments and sing all at the same time. They sound like a 4-5 piece band! Tedeschi Trucks Band was over the top! I love watching their videos, but they don't come close to what you experience live. The whole evening was amazing!
Dylan, ,Bruce, Dolly, Melissa Ethridge, mazzy star... but does any of that matter? Mike & Cary Ann's voices are my absolute favorite out of all...authentic and pure. ... authentic. period. and that look in their eyes, that HEART they push out. --thank you S&R.
I like this raw stuff. Enjoy it before it is gone. Before too long a producer will talk them into pimping their music for the mass market in some high-end L.A. studio.
Don t think so. I heard a one hour interview on NPR with this husband and wife group. They've been together for many years now and prefer the simplicity of their music.
She is playing a Gibson LG O. From the look of the bridge, it is probably pre 1961 because it has a rectangular bridge. They were all mahogany entry level guitars.
Wow! Shovels and Rope are a great duo! I've always had a soft spot for duos -the White Stripes, BlacK Keys and other such groups. And now Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent. They have some grit in their playing, but a lot of musicality too. I do wonder, though, who recorded this. The guitars are way too loud! These folks are not Jimmy Page - it is their words that are the most important things. Let us hear them!
Holy Crap!!! That's Cary Ann Hearst?!?! No wonder I love this duo so much. I have only heard of Cary Ann Hearst from Spotify and have never seen her live nor Shovels and Rope which I discovered the same way. I love Cary....something about her voice......perfect for her style.
I feel bad for this generation. They grow up idolizing Miley Cyrus and other mediocre musicians when they could be inspired by beautiful people like Michael and Cary Ann.
can someone kindly tell me the name of the song where he talks about girls like that bring you up to bring you back down or something to the effect. song made me feel wild like a shucky shucky durn wild.
It's a lower end model from 50's-60's, I believe. I had one. Not good guitars--as you can probably tell by the damned thing being annoyingly out of tune. Almost ruined this otherwise great song.
Jeffrey McMillan I doubt any musician sets out to play with a guitar out of tune. Some chords were in tune and some were out of tune. Probably an issue with the guitar

so true I don't know what happened to country these days but these guys are great
Beautifully said mate.
I call this PURE.
Underrated is an understatement
I am completely obsessed with these two. When you have it, you have it... And these two definitely have it.
i absolutely love her voice!!

I found so many great bands and artists with your channel, thank you KEXP, greetings from France !
KEXP is giving Austin City Limits a run for it's money. I always feel so lucky when I find spots like this.
and they don't hoard like Austin City Limits. All kinds of good.
Seen this band open up for the WOS tour some years back. I've been hooked ever since.
What truly gracious beings. A true joy listening to them speak as well as sing. They are wonderful.
A good friend of mine shared this on Facebook last night and I finally got around to listening to it this morning.
I'm digging it. It beats that crap they call bro-country that they play on the radio these days. Yuck. My faith in music is restored.

I'm absolutely amazed. Still, even typing thus comment, jaw to the floor. Holy, goodness gracious.

Their recordings are really good. They don’t have one bad song.
A great Sound to hear these days. Great voices and Song, and all done without Smoke, Fire and Explosions. Love this
You guys sound great!! So much energy....and spirit!😎✌
I've heard of this group, but actually only heard them (knowingly) for the first time today. I think they are wonderful.
So refreshing. so real. Thanks for the show. Safe travels.
Brilliant writing, brilliant performances.
Whaaattt. A new Shovels & Rope video? I love this band. Saw them open up for Jack White and fell in love.
David Dickens is absolutely correct. Shovels & Rope are Excellent listening and also worth watching aswell. Really good pair together, very real. Loved the performance. Thank you guys will be keeping tabs on you and mentioning you guys as 'hot' to listen to to my pals. Thanks again.

she sounds like Loretta Lynn. These guys are awesome.

Wow!! AGREE...YES!!
I saw them on Austin City Limits one night and have been a huge fan ever since!! I'd love to see them live in the MD/DC/VA area.

Family favorites. Love you guys
These guys are awesome. Sounds like Dylan meets Dolly Parton.
I could not agree more
Daniel Sorenson they will go down as big as greats like David gray.
I felt a Dylan and Raitt combo.

Before too long a producer will talk them into pimping their music for the mass market in some high-end L.A. studio.
But don't worry, it's the music the "artists" have always wanted to make.
Don t think so. I heard a one hour interview on NPR with this husband and wife group. They've been together for many years now and prefer the simplicity of their music.
WOW love Canada

***** It's an acoustic pickup
The money or the thrill........... i could use both !!!
My friend tahnee pittman loves these guys. She's cool, so they must be.
I take it back. Sorry. No offence meant but they look so strong then so fragile. I love the combination.

I feel bad for this generation. They grow up idolizing Miley Cyrus and other mediocre musicians when they could be inspired by beautiful people like Michael and Cary Ann.
1990 called, they want their hair back. All jokes aside, they sound amazing.
can someone kindly tell me the name of the song where he talks about girls like that bring you up to bring you back down or something to the effect. song made me feel wild like a shucky shucky durn wild.
Ian Roberts Kitchen hallway
Nifty ;)
what kind of strings are on that?
does anyone know the song names?
Anyone know what kind of Gibson that is?
It's a lower end model from 50's-60's, I believe. I had one. Not good guitars--as you can probably tell by the damned thing being annoyingly out of tune. Almost ruined this otherwise great song.
Albert Madariaga Waylon Jennings guitar was always out of tune too. Made him unique and great.
Jeffrey McMillan I doubt any musician sets out to play with a guitar out of tune. Some chords were in tune and some were out of tune. Probably an issue with the guitar
