First song of my very first show in '98. By the time I got home from that show I was 17! Jim was my 1st lot shirt. Always will hold a special place for me in the Phishverse.
This was the point where Lucille & The Taco Brigade started to shamelessly have their way with my grey matter. Thank you's to Dr. Albert Hofmann and his assorted elixirs, and to the best band on the planet.
Who else is watching this during the pandemic, quarantined, and getting a little freaked when Trey starts saying "you're alone......You're alone....".... ???
At MSG a few years back, I had the pleasure of sitting with Mr. Anastasio (Trey's Dad). We were chatting a bit during set-break and I asked him if he could hear the band play any song, what would it be? He thought for a second, looked at me and in a voice that can be best described as Frank Costanza (from Seinfeld), said "I think that I would like to hear, a Runaway Jim." They didn't play it that night, but I remember seeing The Dude of Life a short time after that show and was telling him about it, and for some reason I mistakenly said that Mr. A had said "I think that I would like to hear Run Like An Antelope." Which The Dude had co-written, he seemed a bit disappointed when I quickly corrected myself. This medley of the two made me think of that.
Nearly flawless transitions..a little hiccup going back into antelope 2nd time around..but holy shit..that was some serious business ..awesome job phellas
this is redunkuliss--it's labeled just "runaway jim"--misleading!!! but good!!! what an amazing surprise, to get one of these wild type of segues!!! omg, so inspirational...but I'm an old (older-1st show '95) head!!! thank you pHish
I gotta know how much of this was scripted. I know their improvisational skills are off the chart, and Kris in the light booth is as locked in as any member of the band to any song they want to pull out. But seriously, that is too smooth, too tight. Just an amazing performance to pull off like they are just messing around
Solid song structures with designated improv sections. The listening exercises they used to do is how they honed the ability to hear another member change just one note in a mode or scale and everyone adhere to it instantly. That is the true skill of phish. Other than that maybe a hey page let’s run makisupa out of runaway. That’s basically what’s going on here. Got to take into account they’ve been running through these songs for decades at this point. This is no big deal at all to them

haha i had never noticed that. Was at this show (I live in chapel hill; I hate that they don't come here every year anymore) and have watched this (and the webcast that's still up I think) many times. Raleigh doesn't fuck around with walnut creek, especially when it's someone like phish
Lightning Phan yes I noticed this, but there was a lot going on. Lots of moving parts to keep track of. I’ll let it go. Marco Esquandolis was sped up too.
Well it’s kind of an inside joke in which Trey seemed to be putting Jon on the spot by saying, “what’s that you said Fishman?” Knowing that Jon was not ready (he didn’t even have the mic in position) And in other ways the band likes to put Jon on the spot purely for amusement and comedic reasons. For example when they have Jon take front and center to single Prince’s song ‘purple rain’ which he sings beautifully of course 😉 and also usually is accompanied by an outstanding vacuum cleaner solo. (If you have never seen or heard this then please please do look up a video or copy of this fine specimen) But to sum it up I’d say that simply, As best friends do, Trey likes to try and tease Fish a bit, (it’s not quite so easy to play an instrument perfectly and improvise something genius to say) Trey makes it look easy, Page as well, but Fishman is more like me and blanks out a bit, stuttering until Page rescues him from Trey’s impromptu mid-song spotlight. (All in good fun)
I think thread killed the flow and the vibe. Otherwise I think this show would have been much more celebrated by many. But that's just my take on that show.
The Runaway Makisupian Jimalope....I was and still am astonished at this genius.
A rare animal indeed
I spotted one while wook hunting around upstate New York

snuck in the antelope like a boss
It actually started as Antelope. This is a weird vid that truncates out the begining of this jam.
@@phoebexavier7050 The more u know!
@@Ryan-xq3kl It was a very self aware Phish jam. Beyond the usual pale.

Would you just give a listen to the lungs on that chomper at 1:48? Amazing creatures when provoked in their natural habitat!
As I recall, this was a free webcast and they brought it. Jimelope indeed.
Goddamned brilliant. Trey looking at Fishman at 11:22 to let him know it's time to bring it back around. So great.

6-16-95 was my favorite Jim and is from the same venue. Great YEM too at the same show with Boyd.
