    After finishing trails to azure back in March, I can't wait to conclude the crossbell arc. June-July are going to be an interesting two months with both FF16 and Reverie

    • @RozalinGaming
      @RozalinGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Reverie does offer some closure the Crossbell arc but it is definitely favors Cold Steel and Kuro significantly. I would say it fits as an epilogue to Crossbell, with it's main purpose being a sequel to Cold Steel and prequel to Kuro. If you do the side stories, those also act as an epilogue to the first half of the Kiseki series as a whole.

Getting to play as everyone and having so much unique stuff to do in the Reverie Corridor is making me even more hyped for the game. It gives me the vibes of Trails in the Sky 3rd and beefed it up with steroids

    Fantastic video! After sleeping on this series, I've finally decided to give it a try! I only own a switch unfortunately so I don't know how many of the games I will have access to. I noted that you wouldn't recommend reverie as anyone's first game in this series so as someone who is starting this series with no prior knowledge of the series at all, what game would you recommend to start with? I'll most likely still pick up reverie and then hold on to it until I become more familiar with the story.

    • @RozalinGaming
      @RozalinGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I would avoid Reverie as a starting point. It requires knowledge on the prior games, especially Cold Steel 1-4, and it would spoil everything before it in major ways.
      As for recommendations on where to start:
      (1) From the beginning with Trails in the Sky. With this starting point you would play the games in release order: Sky FC, Sky SC, Sky the 3rd, Zero, Azure, CS 1-4, Reverie.
      (2) Skip the Sky arc and begin with Zero, following release order above.
      (3) Start with Cold Steel 1 and 2 specifically to see if you like the series, and if you do, go back and play through Sky FC through Azure before picking up the rest of the Cold Steel arc, and finally Reverie.
      (3) is what I would recommend the most for someone still iffy on if they want to dive headfirst into the series. By just starting with CS1 and 2 you minimize spoilers while still getting a good sense of how the games are structured, their battle systems, how characters are written, etc. At this point, skipping the Sky arc entirely is possible as it has the least impact on the series overall, however that does change with the arc that follows Reverie.

      I would get it on PS5. The PS4 version has some major performance issues in the Reverie Corridor, which still persist to this day even after 8 patches. That and this game does have some scenes that utilize the new engine from Kuro no Kiseki, which also had major issues running well on PS4 and even PS5.

    I am a newcomer to the series and i like it overall so far, but there are a few things i find annoying.
    1. Enemies absolutely spam status aliments. I've never played anything the spammed like 5 plus status ailments from enemies in nearly every area before. It gets irritating to go into the menu constantly to change accessories.
    2. The main characters can't seem to hit the broadside of a barn. Seems like it should be pretty embarrassing for a character like Rean to miss so often considering it sounds like he is supposed to be very skilled.
    3. The enemies magically survive with 1 hp like 80% of the time thus forcing me to waste another attack on them.

    • @RozalinGaming
      @RozalinGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, in general the Kiseki series does throw status ailments at you early -- which I personally like since it makes enemies actually dangerous if not prepared -- but Reverie does throw more than usual; however, that is mainly because Reverie isn't meant for new players to the series so it's less forgiving as it expects players are familiar with the combat and mechanics already. As for hit rating, yeah it's been an annoyance since the beginning of the series and continues to be one even in the games after. Eventually you can craft quartz that make hit irrelevant though. And for enemies living, it depends on what difficulty you are playing on, but most likely as you learn more about the battle system and characters your damage output will improve.

    good rundown. i’m glad you pointed out the whole “enjoy the difficulty while you can” thing lmfao. it was so disappointing to see them shy away from the abyss and level manips in kuro. and while i love kuro just as much as i do all the kiseki games, it’s so straightforward and easy (not to mention having like… 50 less playable characters) that im much more excited to replay reverie in english than i am for replaying kuro.

    • @RozalinGaming
      @RozalinGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are really two main reasons for Kuro 1 & 2 being so easy: (1) the only difference between Very Easy and Nightmare is how much HP and SPD the enemies have -- the rest of their stats are identical and there is no blanket increase in damage taken/received/done; and (2) how ridiculously strong Cobalt Curtain and magic is in those games.
      For me personally, Kuro 1 & 2 have been the most disappointing Kiseki titles for many reasons, but lack of difficulty is a big one. I do hope that Kuro 3 doesn't fail in Japan because I want to see the series conclude, but if 3 does the series may be in danger of being cancelled; both Kuro 1 & 2 have done abysmally in Japan with fans disliking most aspects of both games.

    • @acerola3576
      @acerola3576 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RozalinGaming i certainly wouldn't stack kuro up against the likes of cs3/cs4/reverie, which i consider the best three game stretch in the series, but... i thought kuro's efforts to bridge the series' tonal shift in a way that has something to love for all types of fans was commendable, if nothing else. even if it wasn't always the most graceful of compromises (i mean just look at the Tharbad arc... yikes) and the soundtrack and difficulty oftentimes left much to be desired, but the game was rock solid otherwise.
      while i haven't played crimson sin myself, i've heard enough to be... apprehensive? i'm floored about swin and nadia returning, but hearing how inconsequential it is to the broader plot compared to kuro 1 is uh, not ideal for an SC/Azure type followup to say the least? with an arc's first entry, i'm much more lenient about giving the game time to set the stage; and even then, kuro 1 did a TON on both fronts-establishing and advancing the plot in tandem almost akin to cs3’s approach-while also teasing about deeper lore implications, the beyond, etc. but it seems crimson sin is leaving kuro 3 with some VERY heavy lifting to wrap everything up.
      i'm at least glad 3 is getting an extra year of dev time to retool, but... yeah, for longtime fans, it's hard not to be concerned seeing how poorly those two games sales/reception. seems the best we can hope for is 3 being better received (even if the audience for a 3rd installment makes it all but certain to sell about as poorly as the others). fingers crossed that whatever arc to follow can right the ship in terms of sales--or that, like you said, there even IS a next arc to get the chance.

    • @RozalinGaming
      @RozalinGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@acerola3576 So with Crimson Sin, the game is about 90% nonsensical filler and 10% actual story that progresses the plot; it's even setup so that the events of Kuro 2 can be ignored entirely should the devs want to. Most of the important info also comes from dialogue found at the end of side-quests. It's still a fun playthrough, but get some alcohol before you do, lol.
      As for what the Japanese have primarily taken issue with in regards to Kuro 1/2 they include: (1) a drastic drop in writing quality; (2) gameplay-to-dialogue balance -- Kuro 1's script is longer than CS 1-3 combined, and many of the things that served to break up dialogue heavy sections in past games were removed from Kuro 1; (3) useless features (action combat, pointless dialogue choices, alignment system, etc). Specifically with the alignment system, complaints include how there is no repercussions for actions/choices, and how alignment basically doesn't matter; (4) lack of difficulty; and (5) a lack of polish -- performance issues and bugs have plagued both games, with some bugs still not fixed in Kuro 1, and game breaking bugs that haven't been fixed in Kuro 2.
      The praise the game has received in Japan is almost entirely for the characters, with most being welcomed. Van is the outlier in that Japanese fans found him to similar to Rean and hypocritical with how he goes on about working in a grey area, yet everything he does is just glorified Bracer work; basically fans wanted a more distinct and darker character than what they got.

    • @RozalinGaming
      @RozalinGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bonding events really wouldn't work in Reverie with how it's structured and the purpose it serves; they do come back in Kuro though. To replace bonding events, Reverie has it's side-stories, which are often of a higher quality anyways and serve to tie up the stories of many characters from the entire first half of the Kiseki series.
      Also, if you plan to continue playing the Kiseki series moving forward, Reverie is a required game due to how important it is for the Kuro arc and series as a whole moving forward.
