    Cooler than the guitar, is the fact that this issue will hopefully remind people of what a monster player Kath was. Few people realize it was in many ways HIS band.

    Terry Kath was the best. Good to see him getting a nod from the people at Fender. That "25 or 6 to 4" solo still blows my mind and, the riffs and fills sprinkled throughout those early Chicago tunes are just fantastic. RIP Terry, long live the music you left us.

    Hey Jonathan, tasteful playing on that 25 or 6 to 4 rendition. I can see the emotion on your face towards the end of the video. You have done your Dad and Terry Kath proud. That is a fine looking Fender Custom Shop Terry Kath tribute guitar. I have great memories of seeing Terry playing his during the numerous Chicago concerts I've seen during the early 70s. I am glad that you are keeping the flames alive with your playing and that guitar and I hope that you are able to keep it.

    Probably my Favorite of the Forgotten Killer Guitarist no one recalls and 25 or 6 to 4 was a Smoking Solo and Song, the guitar went missing for years until his wife found it at Terrys parent house after his Dad passed and Terrys mom told her she had some guitars stashed away , many thought he had gifted it to someone or that after his death someone grabbed it and kept it for themselves, I believe the Story was featured on a Terry Kath Documentary. That Guitar Won't last long

    Great video! I didn't know Terry Kath, who was highly regarded by Jimi Hendrix, played a Tele. I knew he played Strats and SG's, but not Tele. Many Tele players, including my high school buddy, put humbucker's on their Tele's. One such person is Andy Summers of the Police, whose Tele already had a humbucker on it.

    Jimi was a HUGE CTA(as they were known at that time) fan and it has been speculated that his use of feedback on the first album inspired Hendrix at Woodstock!

    • @maximusindicusoblivious180
      @maximusindicusoblivious180 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hendrix was inspired by many of the technical players of his day. He mentioned Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield and Terry Kath as those among them. The art of feed-backing guitar is definitely a great tool in any guitarist toolbox and for me is sorely missed in todays contemporary popular music.

    I saw Chicago AKA CTA in 1969 at the Whiskey A Go Go live I was in the front part of the Dance Floor area best live band I've ever seen and I've seen most of them k a t h came out of the Wings when nobody else was on stage except the Roadie nailing the drum kit to the wooden floor and he was driving around snapping his fingers and playing Octopus's Garden. The other person in the band that really impressed me was Peter Cetera the bass player incredible timing and singing. Anyway back to Kathy was playing through a stack of sun acoustic amps he would utilize the volume knob in a very Dynamic way to increase or decrease the output of sound it would blow his hair around

      That's funny. I remember those days. My new Ford Pinto did not have a 8 track player so I mounted my Radio Shack 8 track to the dashboard with velcro. I cut panels in the rear trunk and mounted 10" speakers on each side and would lay the folded back seat down and lift the hatchback up and listen to the best music in the world. That was one Pimped Out Pinto.

    Little tip here - The smaller axle side of a 'T' skate tool is perfect for tightening the output jack nut on a Tele.

    I remember playing that chord progression endlessly when it first came out and I was a newbie. It was a great song to jam on. Terry Kath was another in a long line of musical tragic losses. Don't do drugs kids. That being said this is strictly a collectors piece. The price is ridiculous.

    • @michaelheller8841

      In all reality, most fans can’t afford 20k of any artists name. If a fan can all good. These guitars will be on walls of the rich. Sad if you ask me. I thought I spent a lot of money on a Gibson R8 custom shop lol. At over 5k it is but it’s not 20k. 5k for the Terry Kath would’ve been more reachable to fans. A lot of money still, but can be had for a quarter of the price asking.

    The stickers really turn me off on this one, but I love that neck which brings up a question...when they relic a neck like that, are those "relic'ed" spots of the fretboard actually worn down lower than the rest of the fretboard by a significant margin, or is it just visual effect? I am sure this will seem like a stupid question, and thats ok, its just that I really liked that neck and wanted to know!

    I remember my mom bringing home( from her friends record store) Chicago known as CTA ,Chicago Transit Authority.They dropped the Transit Authority after their first album.I was 8-9 and wore those 1st 2 albums out, I remember those were the days were horns were incorporated in rock and roll; Ides of March, Chase.Hendrix heard Terry Kath play at a venue and said" he's better than me"! He said the same thing about Billy Gibbons too, like he had low self esteem.Yes maybe Terry Kath would have been better he was great until his tragic demise( which there is a lot of speculation).In my honest opinion Chicago( a dbl album) and Chicago Transit Authority( a dbl album) both had Terry Kath and after there 1st 2 albums their music sucked, it became too "Top 10" AM radio crap! Listen to ' Free Form Guitar' or ' I'm a man' cover song EXCELLENT! Yes from my hometown so they were #1.

    Really great playing...and I get the whole history thing, Chicago had some iconic tunes...but that guitar looks like something you’d see under the bed of a 12 year old....Jonathan made it sound incredible, but paying custom shop prices for something decorated as such is only going to appeal to a very small group....Fender might be a little late with this one

      Just about anyone who loves guitars and great guitarists. Kath was one of the greatest. He was severely underrated but those in the know understand Kath's contributions were, even though he died too young. For those of you who don't know about Kath, check out the documentary The Terry Kath Experience by his daughter Michelle Kath Sinclair. Some of rock's most esteemed guitarists appear in the documentary. One named Joe Walsh.
