Definitely dont need prores to make good images. The HEVC high bitrate codecs are great on their own.

Astounding! I hope more camera manufacturer will include open gate recording to their hybrids. This 3:2 (or 4:3 on the micro 4/3 camera) open gate somehow feels more personal than wider aspect ratio. A legendary Ingmar Bergman's old b&w movie "Persona" was shot on 4:3 AR and those movies feel very personal to me.. same as "Mirror" from Andrei Tarkovsky). I know some people will say "just crop the 16:9 video to your liking" and nope, it's not the same. With cropping, you will need wider lens for the same fov. Due to cropping, the noise will be exaggerate.

I agree, there’s something about the 3:2 aspect ratio. I suppose it makes videos look like moving photographs in a way!
