@@Black-Panther534 She thought it was Cinder but in Volume 6 (i think) when Neo found Cinder and wanted to kill her to avenge her spiritual father, Cinder tells her that she wasn't liable for that and that if Roman died, it was because of Ruby. And because Roman hated Ruby, she believed it.
But now that Cinder betrayed her, maybe she will question it. (not really at the moment)

@@aidensnow5017 honestly wouldn’t surprise me. To be honest even if, as they stated, this volume is about Ruby, they’ll make certain by the end of it any character growth she goes through will probably not mean much.
A little detail I thought was cool was when Ruby pushes Neo away, Neo held on to her hat so it wouldn't slip off.
The last thing she can hold on to of Roman other than his memory, those two things makes it very easy to hold on to the hate for her target

Jaune and Weiss fell off the path right by the exit, but Yang fell and Penny died right in that center stage area, and Blake, Ruby, and Neo fell off one of the side bridges. If they land on the beach based on where they fell, Yang's gonna find Penny and Ruby may find Jaune's bloody sword bit.
RWBY in first person, Ruby fighting hand to hand with Neo while falling through the void no less. Makes you feel that panic/confusion a lot more keenly

You know what, props to Neo for keeping the fight up. Even in the face of perhaps certain death, she's still saying "I'm gonna kill you before the ground kills you!" And you know what? That's commitment.

The amount of distress in Ruby’s voice is scary. She doesn’t even know about Penny. But, I think this volume is definitely going to be more centered around her. Instead of others like Ren, Nora, or even Qrow.
Which is probably for the best because I'm not sure I can handle the scene of everyone thinking that team RWBY and Jaune are dead. It would just feel too hard breaking.

I'm glad they showed some of the stuff from right before she fell. Yang falling off the edge in real time. Both showing how disoriented she was and how little time there was in that moment to really have anything done.
On top of that, damn the score is nutty. This volume is going to be a trip

The music at beginning, the first person perspective, the silence beside the natural noises! It feels amazing!
You can feel Ruby's fear throughout the whole thing, but by the time the music faded out, she was alone with only the wind and Neo, scared and frightened, thinking everyone she loved might be dead! Just wow!
I think the amazing OST we've gotten for RWBY just makes the moments with silence just SO MUCH MORE AMAZING. It was probably the best move they could have gone for.
I really do hope the soundtrack goes a more... non-rock direction this volume; I just don't think rock music will fit well for much of it.
Damn, seeing all of that from Ruby's perspective is hard, especially since at the moment she sees this she doesn't know falling off the walkways doesn't mean death. She thinks she just saw her sister and Blake die. And to add to that she probably doesn't know why Neo wants her dead so much. Hope that they get to have an actual conversation and Neo realizes she can't blame Ruby for Roman getting swallowed by the boss's pet
Yeah but Ruby did kick said pet in the face and made it crash into the bridge of a battleship which exploded then the ship crashed somewhere in Vale and likely exploded again so...
Kinda hoping the first four episodes each focus on a specific one of the main four, each beginning with this same POV.
Ambrosius warned them not to fall of the edge, so she definitely does know that its a bad thing.
Holy shit if Yang fell that fast Blake must have extremely fast reaction speeds, being able to almost catch up to Yang

The first Person view really amplifies the Distress Ruby must've felt (Also Neo literally trying to kill Ruby while falling is the most Petty thing I've seen)

I'll bet you the giant snail shells are a nod to "The Snail and the Rosebush," one of Hans Christian Andersen's fables. In the story, a bitter cynical snail lives under a rosebush and refuses to give anything to the world, while the rosebush continually blooms each year and brings joy to others. Despite the snail's acid criticisms of the rosebush, the tree can't help but be what it is, and feels pity for the snail.
The starfish, I think, references "The Starfish Story" where a girl is on a beach where thousands of starfish have washed up on shore and are all dying. Onlookers call out that she can't save them all, that she can't make a difference - but the girl defiantly throws a starfish into the sea and says "I made a difference for that one!"
Both stories speak to Ruby's optimistic nature - but as we've seen in RWBY, many of the fairytale inspirations are inverted. Our little cinnamon bun is at her crossroads. Which brings us to the giant tree. I think that's the Tree of Life, a universal symbol in cultures the world over.
I thought it was Yggdrasil the tree that binds the 9 worlds of Norse myth together

Seeing Yang fall from Ruby's pov in real time really makes you understand just how fast Blake moved when she saw yang falling
0:32, Now that we've seen Silver Eyes in first person, it actually looks like the use of them temporarily blinds the user.
Once they work I guess it's kind of a guaranteed Grimm kill, but against enemies like Cinder and The Hound using SEs is probably pretty scary since if they tank it you can't see it coming. (Also explains things like Ruby getting smacked in the back of the head by Emerald when she used em in V5).
Except she did not use her eyes in that fight.

Idk if you’ve been in a traumatic fight flight or freeze situation but as someone who has, you’re out in a position to just trying to survive. You don’t really have time to plan out the next moves. You are just trying your hardest to get safe and remove the threat
Ruby isn’t gonna be the same on this volume. The girl we loved throughout Volume 1 - 8, will no longer have a smile. Her Steven Universe phase of trauma has reached the Eren Jaeger phase.

My thoughts exactly.
I don't think she was doing it on purpose all things considered. That look in her eyes when she was attacking, her mannerisms, how aggressive she was. I think its entirely possible it was her semblance going wild with all the emotion. If she was composed, she probably couldn't changed into someone before Ruby saw her since she seemed to have seen her first.

I love how you can visually see Ruby’s Silver Eyes beginning to form before she falls from her perspective as well. It’s a nice touch.
When Neo was fighting Ruby during their fall, I was expecting her to turn into Roman. Not the Roman we saw in volumes 1-3, but a younger version from when they had first met.

You might be on to something there. Like the hypothetical question of whether or not you'd get along with someone when stranded on a deserted island. But, being serious for a moment: if Neo can calm down enough to listen to Ruby and accept what she says as truth, maybe they can cooperate. If nothing else, they have a common enemy in Cinder after she betrayed Neo

There's a good amount of people theories that Jaune would be able to supply some therapy for Neo considering they both lost something extremely important on the same day.

You know this series has been out as long as I've been alive, and I know this show came up from the dirt when they evolved from having background characters as walking shadows. And now they're a franchise with a ton of more story, and action. I can't wait to see what they have in store next for this up coming volume!

Yeah, there is the whole evolution of the visuals and such, but not a lot of people are happy with how the series has evolved in terms of plot and character development. Honestly I'm curious how many more screw-ups are going to be made before the series is finished.

@@josecarlossidancona960 and if neo does not stop her attempts at killing ruby, the latter will not have a choice but to end the formers life, no matter how much she does not want to do that. I see ruby killing as more of hating to do it, but necessary depending on the situation.
I love how everything was shown in real time rather than in slow motion like it sometimes was in Volume 8, it makes it much more clear as to why Yang wasn't saved, there was practically no time to react to her being thrown over the edge

Something I just thought about. Penny's body was still in the void when the gateway vanished so there's a decent possibility that it fell into the same place as everyone else did and they could end up seeing it

As fucked as this is gonna sound. I would really wish that Vol 9 will involve some breaking point mentally for Ruby. Poor girls still a kid and all the shit shes gone through so far has to be pushing her mental state to it's absolute limit. She has to overcome these demons that are rattling in her head and find her resolve to see things through to the end.
She already had such a moment. At the steps of Schnee Manor after the fight with Salem's Hound.
Where she crumbled under the strain, ran away and expressed later to Yang her terror at the possibility
that what Salem did to the poor guy happened to her mother as well .. as well as might happen to her.
Ruby woke up at Destiny Islands and is now in the Kingdom Hearts universe
Jesus Ruby has been through a lot. I can’t freaking wait for this volume. Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, Jaune and freaking Neo of all people is not a combination I thought I needed but it’s honestly exciting

@Andre Ransom: Yeah, there is no coincidence that Neo fell as well. This will deffinetly be a redemption arc for her where she switches sides and becomes more of a major character,. We will most likely get her backstory as well.

I'm on the side that she doesn't get one and ends up dying due to being unable to let go of desire for revenger and the only person she can direct that at is Ruby. Before anyone ask, no I don't hate Neo, I like her enough as a character, this is just what I'd like to see story wise.

Could you imagine how unsettling it would be to, while falling have one of your enemies constantly change into people that you care about. For Ruby, Neo changed into Oscar, Yang and Penny.

I officially forgive Ruby’s actor for being more emotional at being disarmed than Yang falling. She was in legit shock the whole fight. And I don’t blame her. It probably hadn’t properly registered about what happened to Yang until later in the fight. That’s what happens in fight or flight mode.
While Ruby was trying to hit Neo with Crescent Rose, her eyes were tearing up. Her emotional pain was always there.

That sounds more like a headcanon or an excuse to forgive another inconsistency. Ruby went berserk twice before when she saw a friend getting killed/in danger. She actually saw Pyrrha getting an arrow to the heart, struggle to breath and then get turned to ashes IN FRONT OF HER and she still activated her eyes, even if she was very clearly in shock too. And now it doesn’t?

When I watched the last episode, I remember thinking "damn team rwby is desperate and losing hope with Yang's sacrifice, ruby and blake crying, wiess getting exhausted..." In this pov of ruby, I felt it all personally. I like how the struggle was slow which is normal in an actually fight, the rush of adrenaline makes a fight feel like hours and it made this video feel more like 5 mins. Honestly felt like crying and dodging Neo's punches and feeling her choke me. I am blown away rn
Having Ruby fight Neo while they plummet to what they both surely believed was their deaths from Ruby's perspective was perfect for this scene, I actually felt immersed in what was happening, as if I was Ruby.
Also I guess Neo's gonna need some time too cool off, I'm still hoping for a redemption arc for her. It might take more than being betrayed by Cinder though.
This is undoubtedly what RWBY Season 9 is going to start off. I wish Monty could see how far his show has come. Monty is in everyone's hearts and they know that Monty would be proud to see his creation continue even if us gone, he truly isn't if we don't forget him

The real-time of Yang falling is amazing. But when Neo turned into Penny? I felt that ;-;
That First Person just shows how fast the final episodes of Volume 8 went. Yang falling was even faster than I thought the slow mo had made it feel. This was outright Traumatizing for Ruby. And can I point out she is only 16 or 17 at the oldest still? And has gone through so much and more. To the point that someone wants her dead so badly, that they will try to murder her using the faces of loved ones while PLUMMETING INTO THE ABYSS ITSELF.
With that lead up this seems to be the very first scene of the volume, so holy hell we're in for a traumatic treat.

This volume could start with Oscar's team in Vacuo and then on episode 2 or 3 it opens up with this. I do hope it opens with this episode though

This is done so perfectly! *chef's kiss* 👌 I LOVE how they've done it from Ruby's perspective. You really feel like your Ruby. It feels more realistic, as if you're actually there and you're the one panicking and exhausted. The scene with Yang really struck me because from the 3rd person we can appreciate everything that's happening and it was originally in slow motion for the viewers, but from Ruby's perspective, you see it unfold in real time. The shock of it all happening so fast really makes you feel as helpless and as confused as Ruby does.
