  • Super stoked on how this project turned out! This allows for a full-size spare without taking up that precious bed space and makes it easy to access the spare at any time while on the trail.

    Built this same bumper with same hinge. Not close to 200$ lol. The 3x5 - 6’ was $156. The hinge is 140$. The latch is 50$. I paid 20 for the Cadd files for the bumper mount and I was given the steel and had them laser cut for free. Otherwise that’s 120$. The receiver extension which I welded in the center of the bumper was 21$. I also bought 48” of 1/4” flat stock, 3” wide for end caps, and support gussets. I have not purchased the steel for the swing out. That will be another 120-140$

      @@solosaga5091 i was thinking of steel, but theyre so heavy, i dont know why people do it

    • @solosaga5091
      @solosaga5091 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ninjadarookie Field repair is the biggest benefit of steel vs alloy. Steel dents, and can be pounded out. Aluminum alloy is typically not as forgiving, especially in the middle of nowhere.
      You're right about weight. Especially being rotational and unsprung. But, I don't think the difference is significant enough on a slow going trail rig to outweigh the benefit of steel. But, if someone is planning to bomb through the desert at 60mph+, or is a frequent highway cruiser, alloy wheels begin to make more sense.

  • @Lhenry-pf5zn
    @Lhenry-pf5zn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The most irreplaceable part of any SUV, particularly Toyotas, is the rear hatch/door. A bumper should protect that from rear impacts, putting a tire there destroys the doors in even a slow speed impact. Not a good idea.
