Sri Purnachander garu (violin maestro) has informed me that he attended this concert (a pass given to him by his then guru, Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman) and was sitting around the dais in the Madras Music Academy (MMA) and he vividly recalled that the year was 1966.

One of the greatest maestros of all times of Karnatic Music, Guru Garu at his best of classicism presenting all Thyagaraja's compositions and all in Adi tala, except his own varnam composition. This concert dispels the wrong belief that maestro does not deliver introspective and meditative qualities. This concert also proves that his music is not BMK music (his own false claim, unfortunately) but very much pure and pristine Karnatic Music. I am truly sad to note only 1,892 views and all the rasikas of Karnatic Music must listen to this great offering by Sri Sreenivasa Murthy Garu. Heartfelt gratitude to you Sir.
My thanks to Sri. Sreenivasa Murthy for the work he is doing in bringing out old recordings of MBK. As usual, no words I am finding to express the experience about the concert except using the word "GENIUS or specially gifted man" who only can sing like this........
I am yet to see a musician ( man or woman) who can sing the brigas with the speed and clarity of BMK!! It's that God given voice that makes it possible. And, it's only MSG, another genius, who could match him note for note in every briga with clarity and speed. Lalgudi Jayaraman came a close second in accompanying BMK. It's not easy to follow BMK because most of his stage singing was extempore and the accompanying artists had no way of knowing what and how BMK would sing!! BMK himself has said that very often he decided what to sing only after reaching the venue!!! As for mridamgam the one artist who did full justice to BMK's singing was TVG. Upendran has done a good job here. 1966 BMK was just 36, at the peak of his career.. So, must MSG have been.
I have to agree with everything you have said including that he would often decide what to sing when he got to the venue. When he sang in South Africa he was very unhappy when the host wanted to decide for him what should be sung and he said to me that he normally judged the audience when he got to the venue and decided at that point what he would sing although that was not hard and fast ofcourse. He did sing two of my requests! I am a student of his and sat on stage behind him at this concert and drove him around exclusively for the 8 or so days he was in South Africa. I consider myself very fortunate indeed and especially the 3 years I studied under him in Chennai. I saw a side to his personality that very few people were priviledged to see. My gratitude for those 3 years cannot be described.
MSG sir use to say you have to Pooja aradhana to each and every swaram you play. Thats what he is exactly doing in kalyani alapana. He does aradhana through his sadhana
Let me share the ecstasy of narration by the Famous Tamil writer Sri Manian during late sixties :- (I try to translate his Tamil write up) If we see a beehive movements of Rasikas , women rasikas in particular, and a tightly parked cars in Music Academy premises, it means there is a concert of Sri Balamuralikrishna inside ! So far I have seen such a crowd , only for Pt Ravishanjarji and now for Balamurali !! I used to wonder what is there for such a crazy followership . To check the same, I attended one concert of Balamuralikrishna. From that day, I have become one amongst that ‘crazy’ crowd of BMK followers. I feel that the in between announcements break the continuity of the concert. I find the information related to the concert very informative and thought provoking. My request is to not add announcements in between the krithis.
