OMG Chris, your Mandarin pronunciation sounds perfect. I don't speak or understand Vietnamese, but hearing your Mandarin, I'm sure it's very good too. You really have mastered tonal languages which are not easy for people of non tonal languages. I really enjoy all the videos of you and Max. You two are truly amazing and good people. ❤
Man.... positive vibes in all your videos, I love it! Thanks for showing us a little bit of Vietnam, I've only been there on a business trip but would love to go for a holiday sometime.
12:38 When you asked these two ladies what language they speak at home, her answer is Teochew, not Cantonese as in subtitle. Teochew is another Chinese dialect but it’s not commonly spoken compared to Cantonese. That’s probably why when speaking of Chinese in Chợ Lớn, people always think of Cantonese 😂😂😂
I was going to comment that they are speaking teochew!!! Glad you put it out there. Teochew here from Vietnam and I also speak Cantonese too. Love the multilingual in this video!!
Absolutely love all of your videos! All the things you’ve tried made my mouth waters. Your northern Vietnamese is amazing, so is your Mandarin. FYI - when you asked the 2 ladies what language they use to speak with each other, they said “tiếng tiều.” Which isn’t Mandarin or Cantonese. It’s actually my family dialect, Teochew. Also in the Canton region of China.
The first video I watched from your channel (like 30 minutes ago) was when you surprised grandma after a year. And this is my second video and I can tell the gifts you bought were for grandma 😭😭. It's lovely that you both have each other. This makes me so happy🤗🤗🤗
Chris, if you read this comment, then i'm gonna let you know that, back in 2020, when i first watched your videos that taught Chinese and your attempt, your experience learning Vietnamese, Urdu, Chinese at that time, i was motivated to learn myself a little bit of Dutch but gave up after just 2 months. Then 1 year later in 2021 i choosed to learn German at the University, until now i'm pretty proficient in German, and learning myself a little bit of Italian, with a hope to be able to learn Dutch again someday. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, still keep track with your videos and collab with Max. Keep it up man! (i'm a Vietnamese living in Hanoi btw)
And he could easily pick Cantonese since he already know Mandarin and Vietnamese. Especially since mando canto are both Chinese and Viet has similar pronunciation
@@janswhatsupdocCantonese is not that easy. Not very similar to mandarin or Vietnamese. There are grammar rule , much more set of tones and all the pronunciation he have to remember for each character. It will take him a bit of time to learn the Chinese character but canto actually use a lot of opposite character to mandarin
Well i don't think he'd be fluent right away but he'd have the fundamentals and conversational stuff nailed down. also canto and viet has some similar pronunciation like the words "free" and "special"@@YorgosL1
@@YorgosL1 .... this makes no sense since Cantonese and Vietnamese both have 6 tones. It isn't any harder to learn to speak it. Learning to write Chinese is useless when learning Cantonese. Cantonese isn't harder than Mandarin.
Hey Chrissy the man … your language skills is excellent .. it just rolls of your tongue with little effort ..myself it takes a little longer but I get there eventually with hours upon hours of practice .. as I’m sure you know I always found talking with the locals at every opportunity is the best way to learn the language … Your very sweet buying some gifts for your friends shop .. this is one of the reasons I like you not to mention admire and respect ..your kindness is so precious don’t change buddy … As always ✊🏻 🫶🏻
