    Spot on Neville. A very noisy and busy workshop. Guys are doing a superb job again. Cannot wait to see them start fitting the skins to the rear section. "It's like Blue Peter." " Here's one I did earlier ". 😂Very funny. Good to see them working on Janes port wing now it is in the jig. Really enjoying your updates Neville and many thanks for all the time and effort you put into them. Looking forward to the next instalment. Best wishes to you and all the gang there at East Kirkby.👍

    This is without doubt a truly remarkable piece of work, which will at the end of the day result in a airsworthy airframe, which is as near to "as new" as possible. I wonder, how do the airframes on the BBMF Lanc. and Vera in Canada stack up in comparison.

      Ive often wondered the same thing. The originals were built very much against the clock and with a very short expected life and to 1940s standards. This though is being built not against the clock and to 2020 CAA standards and with the intention of lasting a very long time. Ive no doubt this will be built to a higher standard than any previous Lanc

      @@Mark13091961 I guess it's bit like I live in a 1940's house built on 18inch footings, when I added a single storey extension 20 years ago the footings had to go down 6 foot would you believe!!

    I’ve shared this thought before and again it’s just sheer fantasy so please don’t judge me… imagine if all of the old parts of the Lanc were saved and it was possible to reassemble them, even not connected but say laid out like they do after an aircraft has crashed and they reassemble it in a hangar. Imagine what a fabulous display this could make, yes you need a lot of hangar space but imagine being able to walk amongst the disconnected or even assembled parts of JJ (including all of the missing parts that were scrapped or reused) and see the “Ghost” of JJ and then walk outside and the reincarnated JJ because being honest, she will be a brand new aircraft with just a few original parts … but how good would that be?
    Being more realistic, could they not even just maybe put back together (just a few key rivets to say time and money) and maybe reassemble say half of an “old” wing … maybe there will be enough scrap parts to partly reassemble an unusable Merlin, cut in half, section it, paint the cut parts in red…
    Neville could you mention this is you think fit as an idea when you are talking to the guys? Think… “Ghost of JJ” lol 😂

    Great job as always Nev 👍🏻- Ive long wondered why a retractable tailwheel unit was never designed for these (and Halifax’s etc) ? They fully understood the benefits of a clean airframe and surely a standard unit powered by electric with a manual hand pump was not beyond the wit of the engineers of the time. Its adds a little complexity and weight but would easily provide 5mph (guessing obviously) possibly more. 5mph across a 10hour flight adds a little safety and reduces required fuel?

  • @buffplums
    @buffplums หลายเดือนก่อน

    19:45 Regarding the extra fittings for glider towing.. I think it’s very wise to fit the extra glider towing parts, not just to restore the aircraft to the same build as it was but what if for some very unlikely event that in the future maybe they would like to recreate towing a Horsa Glider (probably have to restore or build a new one from scratch) in the future? A nice fantasy but you never know.😂

    I'm a bit confused, I didn't see this restoration from the start. There are two Lancs at this place? One ex RCAF and NX611 correct? 611's being restored to flying condition but is still a taxing plane? Is the RCAF one just going to be static? Just a bit confused because I see two in these videos.

      Just Jane is being fitted with other parts on loan (which themselves will be restored) in order that it can continue with taxi runs whilst the parts from Just Jane are being restored to flying condition.

      @crushingvanessa3277, you're welcome. I can't pretend I'm an expert as I only dip in and out of Neville's videos, but I believe it involves swopping stuff around from a French museum lancaster and a fuselage from Doncaster.
