@@Pixi900 it’s an homage to founding member and drummer The Rev. He cowrote a lot of songs on the album but died before the recording. the title track was the first ones to be released from the album.
After The Rev died, Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater stepped in to help them out and recorded the drums on the album and went on tour with the band. After the tour, they hired a new drummer named Arin Ilejay and recorded the Hail to the King album. They soon realized that they weren't getting along with Arin, so they reached out to Brooks Wackerman from Bad Religion and asked him if he was interested in joining. Brooks said yes, and Arin was fired, and Brooks has been in the band ever since.

Riley Robertson he died of an accidental overdose ... he also had cardiomegaly (enlarged heart) which had a huge part in his death...he knew this and always said he would never live to be 30... bad circumstances made worse by choices...not suicide. please do not spread things like this if you do not know them to be true

For those who don't know, at the beginning and at the end it shows the drums because of former drummer Jimmy who played in the band but who died in 2009 from an overdose. Beautiful tribute to him.

Crazy to think there are people who don't know - it's ok, all I mean is that as someone who discovered A7X in my teens, with City of Evil, the news of Jimmy's death still feels like it was only yesterday, not nearly 14 years ago 💔
I am so sad that we could not be at Rocklahoma this year. My son is and will always be your biggest and most loyal fan. I think it was 2009 when my son and his bandmates drove to St Louis for PointFest just to see your band. The boys were heartbroken because your singer had damaged his vocal chords and could not perform. Steven was in a horrific motorcycle accident a few hours after his father's funeral. He was and is an amazing shredder. We were not sure if he would be able to hold a guitar again. He is amazing on guitar in his wheelchair right now.When his right leg gets amputated, please let me know how much it would cost to have your band come to Springfield Missouri and get him up on stage with you. I can fill a venue and will pay any other expenses. I tried to send him this weekend to see you. He was not up to dealing with that kind of crowd in his wheelchair. Please let me know how I might facilitate this. 😢
I took my 60yr old mom and my 14yr old son to see A7X and Metallica in Seattle. The first note to this song made my mom grab me screaming OMG no F***ing way!!!! She had tears the whole time. I can’t say how much this song/music video helped me when it first came out. I was a misfit high schooler and suddenly A7X became my favorite band. I’ll never forget skipping practice one morning to go buy the Nightmare CD. The nostalgia is real… I’m getting teary-eyed typing this

I hear people complaining often that A7X isn't metal because they have a few songs that aren't totally metal. I just want to know what you guys would classify them as. I also would like to say that they may have a few songs that are different but I think just think that shows talent.
This song is metal, if you like it or not, But most of the things they are making is like hardrock/heavymetal/metalcore combined, with loads of metallica influence

14 years ago when this album/song was released I was on my 4th deployment to Iraq courtesy of the U.S. Army. This particular song helped me get through some dark days. I'm glad to see people are still listening, liking, and commenting. So, where are the rest of my Vet brothers and sisters?
The fact that they show drums for tiny bit sprinkled throughout the video and then eventually end up on the full drum set hits me like a ton of bricks. Miss you, Rev.

Missing disturbed and I don’t think Slipknot deserves a spot on the list. Beautiful guitar and solos and drummers but it’s sadly just all destroyed by the pointless screaming.

I get that everyone has their own tastes but their music isn't just filled with pointless screaming...a need to understand the group, their evolution, what each song is about and why they're so aggressive is a must have before disregarding them...Corey's vocal talent (screaming and singing) is incredible, there are very few that can even match him...I used to hate Slipknot then my brother introduced me properly to their music...
One small detail I noticed is that Mike Portnoy isn't seen in either of the music videos for this album playing with the rest of the band. It symbolizes how he was a part of A7X only to temporarily fill a void that could never really be filled. Very humble of him to not want to be in the spotlight
They were so raw over Rev's death they wouldn't let him be in any of the shots. I get it. When you grow up with someone and love them so fiercely, even if it's unfair to others, it's so fucking hard to let them go.
Yeah, Mike only played for a year with the band, which was the year this song was released, 2010. He was replaced by Arin Ilejay, who was replaced by Brooks Wackerman, who’s still their drummer. Maybe they didn’t show him because of The Rev’s death. I believe it was also Mike’s choice not to be shown in the music videos out of respect since Nightmare was the tribute album.

As an 80s/90s metal fan who was slow to accept 2000s metal bands - this is a classic! That part from the 4:00 to 5:00 mark has to be one of the best heavy hitting anthemic parts of any song I've heard... hope to see them live in 2023!

January 15th, 2021 was the day my father passed away. It was also the day I had this song on repeat. That day indeed felt like a Nightmare. This song will always resonate with me.
I just started listening to them as well and noticed that the songs I actually knew (without knowing who the band was) I already really enjoyed! And I'm starting to realize that I enjoy pretty much all of their music.
The nightmare album isn't nearly the best, thought it's the most popular. You definitely should listen to A little piece of heaven (their best song) and City of evil album
A large majority of fans are teeny boppers who say A7X are the best band ever and can be really obnoxious at times because of how thick their skulls are.

Zack Gibson the Rev was the original drummer of the band and childhood friend of Matt and Gates. He sadly took his life December 28th, 2009.

For those who don't know, at the beginning and at the end it shows the drums because of former drummer Jimmy who played in the band but who died in 2009 from an overdose. Beautiful tribute to him.
I agree. The video was a beautiful tribute to him. Everything was spot on, from Matt's Jimmy deathbat tattoo at the beginning to Jimmy's last drum set at the end.

I am so sad that we could not be at Rocklahoma this year. My son is and will always be your biggest and most loyal fan. I think it was 2009 when my son and his bandmates drove to St Louis for PointFest just to see your band. The boys were heartbroken because your singer had damaged his vocal chords and could not perform. Steven was in a horrific motorcycle accident a few hours after his father's funeral. He was and is an amazing shredder. We were not sure if he would be able to hold a guitar again. He is amazing on guitar in his wheelchair right now.When his right leg gets amputated, please let me know how much it would cost to have your band come to Springfield Missouri and get him up on stage with you. I can fill a venue and will pay any other expenses. I tried to send him this weekend to see you. He was not up to dealing with that kind of crowd in his wheelchair. Please let me know how I might facilitate this. 😢

One small detail I noticed is that Mike Portnoy isn't seen in either of the music videos for this album playing with the rest of the band. It symbolizes how he was a part of A7X only to temporarily fill a void that could never really be filled. Very humble of him to not want to be in the spotlight
They were so raw over Rev's death they wouldn't let him be in any of the shots. I get it. When you grow up with someone and love them so fiercely, even if it's unfair to others, it's so fucking hard to let them go.

Yeah, Mike only played for a year with the band, which was the year this song was released, 2010. He was replaced by Arin Ilejay, who was replaced by Brooks Wackerman, who’s still their drummer. Maybe they didn’t show him because of The Rev’s death. I believe it was also Mike’s choice not to be shown in the music videos out of respect since Nightmare was the tribute album.
I don't know how I missed this band for so long. Just started hearing them regularly on Sirius XM and now I can't get enough of their music, it's fantastic.

As an 80s/90s metal fan who was slow to accept 2000s metal bands - this is a classic! That part from the 4:00 to 5:00 mark has to be one of the best heavy hitting anthemic parts of any song I've heard... hope to see them live in 2023!

This was my first A7X song, and when I got to this part I was absolutely blown away, my first experience with true Heavy Metal, before that it was all Liknkin Park, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, and many other Nu Metal bands. I play this song and it fits so well because you know some or a lot of people that are afraid or hate bugs. There's a ton of earth defense force games.
