Riley Robertson he died of an accidental overdose ... he also had cardiomegaly (enlarged heart) which had a huge part in his death...he knew this and always said he would never live to be 30... bad circumstances made worse by choices...not suicide. please do not spread things like this if you do not know them to be true

@@Pixi900 it’s an homage to founding member and drummer The Rev. He cowrote a lot of songs on the album but died before the recording. the title track was the first ones to be released from the album.
After The Rev died, Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater stepped in to help them out and recorded the drums on the album and went on tour with the band. After the tour, they hired a new drummer named Arin Ilejay and recorded the Hail to the King album. They soon realized that they weren't getting along with Arin, so they reached out to Brooks Wackerman from Bad Religion and asked him if he was interested in joining. Brooks said yes, and Arin was fired, and Brooks has been in the band ever since.

Noone talks about it enough. The entire aesthetic of the nightmare album and this Era in general is the best A7X has ever had. They all look so awesome.
Also agree. It's where they have released their most amount of musical variability. It's like each song is a different genre form another, it gives each song a sort of identity inside the album and makes all of them unskippable. Even the removed song, Lost it all, follows this. None of their other albums has been able to replicate this magic. It's practically the perfect tribute for The Rev (even though he contributed in 90% of it😂). They couldn't have done it better
This album out of all of them, in terms of sound, isn't my favourite, however I find that the concept, a soldier following orders without question and after many bad orders and just going through with them, being ignorant to the whole , it's just an order not my decision etc , finds himself shot in a battlefield and fading away, in the hospital, he's going in for surgery but dies in the hospital, it almost feels like he didn't even realise and things just merged into hell. I loved all of that .
The ending is like an amazing tribute to The Rev. R.I.P. (Fun fact I'm sure you know, Mike Portnoy filled in on the song after Jimmy passed cause he was his idol)

For those who don't know, at the beginning and at the end it shows the drums because of former drummer Jimmy who played in the band but who died in 2009 from an overdose. Beautiful tribute to him.
I agree. The video was a beautiful tribute to him. Everything was spot on, from Matt's Jimmy deathbat tattoo at the beginning to Jimmy's last drum set at the end.
Crazy to think there are people who don't know - it's ok, all I mean is that as someone who discovered A7X in my teens, with City of Evil, the news of Jimmy's death still feels like it was only yesterday, not nearly 14 years ago 💔
I am so sad that we could not be at Rocklahoma this year. My son is and will always be your biggest and most loyal fan. I think it was 2009 when my son and his bandmates drove to St Louis for PointFest just to see your band. The boys were heartbroken because your singer had damaged his vocal chords and could not perform. Steven was in a horrific motorcycle accident a few hours after his father's funeral. He was and is an amazing shredder. We were not sure if he would be able to hold a guitar again. He is amazing on guitar in his wheelchair right now.When his right leg gets amputated, please let me know how much it would cost to have your band come to Springfield Missouri and get him up on stage with you. I can fill a venue and will pay any other expenses. I tried to send him this weekend to see you. He was not up to dealing with that kind of crowd in his wheelchair. Please let me know how I might facilitate this. 😢

I can’t say how much this song/music video helped me when it first came out. I was a misfit high schooler and suddenly A7X became my favorite band. I’ll never forget skipping practice one morning to go buy the Nightmare CD. The nostalgia is real… I’m getting teary-eyed typing this

As an 80s/90s metal fan who was slow to accept 2000s metal bands - this is a classic! That part from the 4:00 to 5:00 mark has to be one of the best heavy hitting anthemic parts of any song I've heard... hope to see them live in 2023!

I get that everyone has their own tastes but their music isn't just filled with pointless screaming...a need to understand the group, their evolution, what each song is about and why they're so aggressive is a must have before disregarding them...Corey's vocal talent (screaming and singing) is incredible, there are very few that can even match him...I used to hate Slipknot then my brother introduced me properly to their music...

I took my 60yr old mom and my 14yr old son to see A7X and Metallica in Seattle. The first note to this song made my mom grab me screaming OMG no F***ing way!!!! She had tears the whole time. Beast in the Harlot on Guitar Hero 2 was my first informal experience, although I don't really count it. My first legit experience with them was Nightmare and Bat Country on GH Warriors of Rock made me a fan of them.

This song is metal, if you like it or not, But most of the things they are making is like hardrock/heavymetal/metalcore combined, with loads of metallica influence

Zack Gibson the Rev was the original drummer of the band and childhood friend of Matt and Gates. He sadly took his life December 28th, 2009.
Zack Gibson they only fairly recently found a new permanent drummer. Before then. They switched between a few just to keep on with music

I think it was 2009 when my son and his bandmates drove to St Louis for PointFest just to see your band. The boys were heartbroken because your singer had damaged his vocal chords and could not perform. Steven was in a horrific motorcycle accident a few hours after his father's funeral. He was and is an amazing shredder. We were not sure if he would be able to hold a guitar again. He is amazing on guitar in his wheelchair right now.When his right leg gets amputated, please let me know how much it would cost to have your band come to Springfield Missouri and get him up on stage with you. I can fill a venue and will pay any other expenses. I tried to send him this weekend to see you. He was not up to dealing with that kind of crowd in his wheelchair. Please let me know how I might facilitate this. 😢
