I bought this based on your recommendation and I am very pleased with it. I have had no issues with the microphone and it feels very comfortable even after long gaming sessions or just listening to music. The sound quality is amazing (this is my first gaming headset so maybe I'm ignorant here but I think it's great) and the audio/chat mixer is useful but I've only used it a couple times. Thank you for the in depth review!

this depends on the headphones soundstage of its own. some closed back headhones have a better soundstage than some open back ones... its very individual. for example the ATH 2000x (open) have litarally no soundstage while the ATH m40x (closed) offer an even better soundstage also my beyerdynamic DT770 Pro do a good job on seperation
Been using these for almost 6 months now. I freaking love them! There was an issue with the speakers crackling, but software updates seems to have fixed that. I couldn't disagree with you more on the "Surround" ruining the experience. I play a lot of PUBG and Arma3, both games having people shoot at me from all sides, and the awareness is FANTASTIC! I can very easily tell which direction a shot came in from, and I feel that there is no loss in any other quality of sound. Can't exactly offer an opinion on the mic, as I don't use it, nor was it a factor in buying them.
Completely ignore the negative comments. The Steelseries Arctis 5 definitely is a good headset. I don't know what kind of shit setup all the negative guys have, including HardwareCanucks. The headset is very comfortable, it has soft earcups, is light weighted and therefore you can wear it for hours without any trouble. It sits tight, but not to tight. The microphone records a clear sound and the speakers put out a clear sound as well. A friend of mine bought it as well and when we're talking to each other over Teamspeak, or other voicechats, we can hear the other with a very clear voice. Many other headsets are way behind there (trust me, i've already spoken to a lot of different people with a lot of different headsets). Another profit is the fact you can pull the earpads off to wash or replace them. Every earpad gets smelly and greasy over time. These ones will feel and smell nice and fresh again after washing. I haven't found a real downside on this one. The only things I would have done different are the headband and the volume control on the left earcup. I have a rather bigger head and still have to mount the headband quite tight. It still sits very comfortable and tight enough, but for people with very small heads that could prove to be a problem. I would have designed the volume control as an endless wheel with an additional control/indicator in the engine software. That would make it easier to readjust the volume on the level you want it.
I actually like audio sharing For example when a friend comes over and you want to play for example a horror game together, you can just plug in the other pair of headphones 🎧 😋
i think it works more for plugging in a set of speakers like if someone wants to watch you play you can plug in speakers or if you just want to switch between headphones and speakers you can do it without having to close out your game.. just put on the headphones and turn the dial down on the speakers.
@1000 Subs with no vids?? Recommend gsp 300 or a normal headphone don't get the razer. I personally love razer for its keyboards and mice but not the headsets.
I have had these headphones for 2 years and this is what I think: It's quite a nice headset when it comes to audio quality. It's clear and I can't really complain there. Just make sure you set your EQ profile. Immersive profile sounds the best in my opinion but feel free to make a custom one. In my opinion, its best strong point is comfort. You can literally wear them all day and still never notice they are even on. The mic isn't great though and I still highly recommended getting a condenser mic as well. It doesn't have to be a super expensive one because any condenser is better than its mic. But its ok for communications but it is not good for recording, because it sounds like you have a cold.
I've had the Arctis 7 Headset for a month (28 days) now and I am in love with it, the only thing I regret is to not buy 1-year insurance instead of 2. I was happy to see an AUX adapter included so i could listen to music on my four-hour bus ride. It's comfortable as hell and there hasn't been a single time i've run out of battery life during my long sessions haven't even seen it go down to 25% once. It's extremely light on the head and miles more comfortable than my last headset which was a wireless from razer. The best part about any wireless is that i can simply walk downstairs to the kitchen and grab a cold one without taking the headset off. The sad though is, no RGB lights ;"(
I have owned this headset for half a year now and it worked fantastic but the mic pics up the audio from the headphones if playing at loud volumes. This problem was a huge issue for me but I still think that the Arctis 5 is a good headset for the price.
Also, the adverts said that the Arctis 5 had the best microphone for gaming when that is entirely false. The Sennheiser G4ME 0NE headphones have better audio quality AND a MUCH better microphone for just nearly the same price if you get them used on amazon. I would not recommend the Arctis 5 headphones.
Don't know why I'm watching this review after already owning the product for more than 3 years. The only concerns after 3 years of use is the elastic band on the top of your head stretches out over time. On the inside of the ear muffs the leather like material is already peeling off and shredding allowing for some sound to escape. Also the rubber padding on the outside of the ear muffs are peeling allowing for the LED to shine through the ruffed edges (and of course take note these are expected from wear and tear usage) Besides all that I love the headset. It's super comfortable, lightweight, sound quality is good and overall looks great. I'll most likely go for the wireless next purchase.
Honestly the Cloud 2 is so much better. I bought the Arctis 5 and returned it 3 days later. Seriously the only thing that was better about Arctis 5 over Cloud 2 was the mic. Cloud 2 sounds better, looks better and is more comfortable. When i wore Arctis 5 my ears hurt after like 2 hours and my ears aren't even that big. Tbh even tho i got the Arctis 5 for like 20 euros less than the normal price they still weren't worth it. So yeah buy the Cloud 2, It's cheaper and better.
I'm switching over headsets. I had the Hyper X cloud 2 but it broke after a year. Buying these to pair with my Rival 700 mouse. I'll let y'all now what I think
you're the only one who correctly point out the mini usb, most reviewers i saw reviewing this just says that this is a proprietary cable. this is why i always wait for your review on things, a bit late but well done.
I'd be interested to know how you thought the 7 felt compared to the 5. I initially bought a 5 but switched them out for a 7 because of a sale later in the week, and the difference was pretty noticeable to me. Absolutely love my 7s.
The headphone sound sharing is really good, I think. My friend has the Arctis 5 and if we want to play split screen on his monitor, because he doesn't have a bigger screen, he will share this headset sound with the 3.5mm connection.
5:14 Does anybody know if something like this "two interfaces for one device" feature can be added to regular headphones in Windows? A friend of mine is having this with his GSP 350 as well over his USB-Dongle. It would be convenient to have a second device for communication that has its output to the same physical port to regulate volume for this separately.
@grg Yeah, it sucks that you need third party software for these simple things on Windows that apparently can be solved with a simple driver adjustment. It's just more convenient to have a separate communication and standard audio device instead of adjusting volume for every app separately. I know how to do this on my Linux system via Pulseaudio but since I mainly game using Windows it would be nice to have it there since it's clearly possible.
I have had this headset for quite a while. Never had any problems with it so far. the sound is pretty good. dts only works in some games. You do have to play around with the software to get the best out of it though. But mainly it looks better than all the others at the same price so whats it really matter?
What about that thing he said about the surround vs the other sound? Is that a problem? Also, I've had the Siberia V3 for 2+ years now and they've been great, mostly because my whole ear fits in the earcup and the head band expands enough for my big ass head to be comfortable, is that the case in this headset?
Bobes555 i never had them, but they seem great, im a corsair fanboy so i bought the void wirelss rgb headphones, theg were great but they kept falling off my head, i would like to get these headphones. but people are being picky, you could just get a modmic.
Same, but I haven't had a ton of different ones to try. Only thing I am now noticing is I am getting some light crackling sometimes. Maybe it's my computer, I don't know. I am going to try my other PC. I didn't know if it was my headset or if it was my messed up, chronic tinnitus hearing. I get pops and thuds to begin with naturally since my hearing is damaged, but pretty sure it's the headset this time. lol
Manual wire audio sharing with headphones is a constant blessings in a studio. They are thinking outside the box to retail to a broader audience than just gamers. Smart imo
I like these but these also break very easily if you pull too much them because the plastic is very hard ... I dont get how this price dont have better feeling and quality
I own a Arctis 7 and I don't know if the Arctis 5 has the same hinge system for the speakers but within 6 months the hinge system broke. I took the Arctis 7 apart and it looks very cheap. It's a pot metal bar with a mushroom top. Like a nail and its surrounded by a plastic mold holding it in place. For me it didn't really snap it looked stretched then gave out. I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem but just giving you guys a heads up. In result hinge system is good but not perfect. :)
7.1 surround sound should die. Games like csgo allow stereo mode with accurate 3d positioning based on head related transfer function. This allows accurate locating of sounds. 7.1 messed this up. I have Logitech g933 and with the Logitech software installed windows forces 7.1 even if it's disabled in the Logitech software. It's so pointless splitting stereo into 7.1 channels instead of taking advantage of stereo binural audio which seems to be better suited for gaming.
It should not die. Stereo is better for competitive gaming but 7.1 is a beast when it comes to games that audio is a big part of. Like in battlefield you can feel the gunshots far away but with stereo its just static sound coming in to your ear. I personally stopped playing those super competitive games like csgo and i started playing more games that seriously are more fun. So i love 7.1 because it feels like you are in the battlefield or in the forest your walking in game.
The "joint" on the head band is what's called flashing, and is not where two pieces of the plastic meet, but where two pieces of the mold used to cast the plastic met :)
I got the headphones and dont regret it. I updated the headphones through steel engine 3 app and it gave me louder sound through ps4. I cranked everything up to 12 decibles and put the dynamic range on high. I played fortnite and it almost made me deaf. Note: i use the usb for ps4
I love it for styling, everything seems uniform in looks department i.e. it doesn't have ugly design as Hyper X headset has , that usb chat thing is extremely useful when playing in multiplayer with friend to balance game and chat volume on the go, it is more useful that it seems to be at the start, 2019 edition doesn't have ugly steelseries logos on sides, just rings of LED and has extra soft pollster around so you doesn't feel it when play, i went on 8 hour play session and didn't get any irritation feeling or any feeling at all when gaming, also mic works very well without it being removed from headset, so you can just leave it in and don't worry about it breaking, pulling it out is really just a preference thing. Good headset for its price, really recommend.
More of a bit of interesting info than a correction - the "joint point" is called a "parting line" in the injection molding industry. Two pieces of (most likely) steel which move in different directions meet at this line.
I have the Arctis 7 and it's great, the mic could be slightly less processed but works pretty well. Overall it is comfy and the sound is nice and crisp bass unlike many headsets which just give you insanely stupid bass and subpar sound quality. Don't bother with surround dts, stereo ftw.
PC Masterace To me, I you only plan on gaming, don't spend the extra 20 bucks on 7.1 surround sound. It's just useless for gaming to me. And HyperX still sells their Cloud without 7.1, I don't know anything about the two others.
gsp 300 for $99 or cloud core for $65. Surround sound on the cloud 2s is awful from personal experience. Same problems as the actic 5's surround sound following what Dmitry said in the video. The cloud core will offer a near identical sound to the cloud 2 but the gsp has slightly better audio, better noise isolation, and a much better mic.
HyperX CLoud 1 (don't buy 2. The USB Soundcard is crap, most Motherboards already have better DACs, than this USB toy). Don't consider Kraken. it's utterly Garbage. ^^ At least the Kraken Pro was one of the worst sounding Headsets i ever tried. And yea, never heared of 1 single Razer Headset, that has good Sound Quality. And if it has 3-4 Drivers per side, stay away from it. 2 good Drivers > 8 crappy ones. HyperX Cloud is identical to a QPad QH90, which is based of an actual Real headphone: Takstar Pro 80. That is the reason, Kingston's HyperX Cloud is one of the best "Headsets" you can actually buy. Better Quality than most "Gam0r Headsets" at double the Price.
The ear cups haven't got enough depth and the inside rubs against the tips of my ears. Sending back now and just getting a replacement of my old headset😔 first world problems lol
The audio sharing port is great for connecting your cellphone with an aux to aux cable so that you can hear the game sounds and for example listen to music on your phone.
I liked the fact the mic can be hidden. But agree, the sound is better on the other gaming headset but the mic just sticking out when I only want to listen to music or watch movies
I love the video and all of your videos! Great reviews as always, but I have to say, I've been using this headset for over a year and have never experienced any of those issues you had (volume glitch/headset disconnection issue). It's tough when you're a consumer with the same product and don't experience the same issues as a reviewer. It feels like maybe the issue is only on the reviewer's end. But who knows?
Best headset I've ever used (and I've used a lot of different headsets). The only negative is that it pushes earcups together too much, so it creates a bit pressure in my wide head which causes slight pain
Not. I'm looking on the market for a new headset because my cloud 2 crapped out on me 2 days ago and Kingston isn't replacing it because the "tangle free braided cord" became the most jacked up tangled mess I've ever dealt with on a headset despite minimal handling and always hanging the headset up when I'm done with it. They consider cord tangling to be physical damage caused to the headset, thus voiding the 2 year warranty. Absolute garbage. The mic was too quiet, all my friends had to max out my volume despite it practically being in my mouth when I was talking loudly and it lacked any amount of bass, making music sound tinny and lacking. It's the most comfortable headset I've worn, yes, but I think the cons outweigh the pros.
i have HyperX Cloud Alphas and I can only recomend these. These are also amazing for listening to music. This headset does not have 7.1 Surround Sound but I do not think I am missing any audio keys for example playing Fortnite.
first of all of you know you like it a lot? Just because the ad says that this headset is good doesen't mean it it's. The ear cushions feel bad and they get hot fast, the sound is ok good but the michrophone is really bad as on every gaming headset. They are not very comfortable. And for me they broke in about 4-6 months i think
I can't hear other people talking to me in games or apps like discrod or teamspeak. They can hear me and I can see that they are speaking, the sound just doesnt come Edit: I have now fixed it on discord and teamspeak. Still doesnt work in games like h1z1, cs:go and fortnite

I get pops and thuds to begin with naturally since my hearing is damaged, but pretty sure it's the headset this time. lol
It is but not the mic
The sound is low even at highest
Audio sharing in long train / bus trips, watching movie from a laptop / tablet with your friend with shared audio. Brilliant.
GSP 300 mic sounds better
Audie Liem but how bout the audio

lab galaxy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
lab galaxy 💀💀💀
audio? better than this?
Headset coming in the mail today, Im excited
What is the deference between Steelseries artic 5 and steelseries artic 5 2019 edition?
Hehehe Fjjddj 2019 is pro edition
My daughter and I love the audio sharing, we use it when we play scary games or when gaming late at night so we don't bother other people.
4:00 I have been eaten by a man wearing headphones
Headset not headphones
i really love the intro, keep up the good work :D
"Not very nasal-ey."
> The most nasal audio in the video
tis his accent me thinks. But yes exactly what i thought at that time too
What are your opinions on the arctis 5 in general? Are there 99 dollar headsets out there better than this one?
William Kulich lol
Manual wire audio sharing with headphones is a constant blessings in a studio. They are thinking outside the box to retail to a broader audience than just gamers. Smart imo
My reaction if my fave hero dies in Endgame.: 2:06
I like these but these also break very easily if you pull too much them because the plastic is very hard ... I dont get how this price dont have better feeling and quality
Sennheiser gsp 300 or steelseries arctis 5/3? Which one is better when it comes to audio?
I own a Arctis 7 and I don't know if the Arctis 5 has the same hinge system for the speakers but within 6 months the hinge system broke. I took the Arctis 7 apart and it looks very cheap. It's a pot metal bar with a mushroom top. Like a nail and its surrounded by a plastic mold holding it in place. For me it didn't really snap it looked stretched then gave out. I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem but just giving you guys a heads up. In result hinge system is good but not perfect. :)
HyperX Alpha vs Steelseries Arctis 5??
The audio sharing thing makes sense if you were recording or streaming a lets play with a friend or friends
Dont worry, with the 2019 version, the band is smother and does not CHOKE you at all when resting on your neck
thanks
Ofb we don window shop bro caught him an opp he tried turn him off
@@anaambatt581 shut up😂🤦♂️
This channel is absolutely awesome! I just love it! Keep it up guys!
Is it better than a Kingston Hyperx Cloud?
Just bought these, pretty happy with them, I use sennheisers for music but these are so much better for gaming
HyperX has controlled and modelled it pretty well, so Cloud 2 is awesome in this topic
4:53 So could this wire be used on playstation? So i can turn down game sound or party chat sound when I need to??
Nope
starlord doing a reviews about his headsets :D
The "joint" on the head band is what's called flashing, and is not where two pieces of the plastic meet, but where two pieces of the mold used to cast the plastic met :)
+Jim C K Flaten gotcha! Thanks for the clarification 👍
I got the headphones and dont regret it. I updated the headphones through steel engine 3 app and it gave me louder sound through ps4. I cranked everything up to 12 decibles and put the dynamic range on high. I played fortnite and it almost made me deaf. Note: i use the usb for ps4
How’s the mic?
1:12 is when the ad ends
More of a bit of interesting info than a correction - the "joint point" is called a "parting line" in the injection molding industry. Two pieces of (most likely) steel which move in different directions meet at this line.
I have the Arctis 7 and it's great, the mic could be slightly less processed but works pretty well. Overall it is comfy and the sound is nice and crisp bass unlike many headsets which just give you insanely stupid bass and subpar sound quality. Don't bother with surround dts, stereo ftw.
Thx for the humorous parts, really fun to watch
What should I buy: Razer kraken 7.1 v2, HyperX Cloud II 7.1, or the Steelseries Arctis 5?
Graham Pierce Hmm. From a personal experience, I found the Cloud's audio better than the GSP's. And mics sound the same to me ^^
ok tanks :D
You’re weird like me and that made this video very enjoyable. Thanks for the review bro!
Every time I google.headser review, your videos pop up . just how many headsets you own lol
HAHAAA good thing I was hibernating while you guys were waiting for this review!
I have a buddy who wants to sit in on a stream and the audio sharing feature is dope.
3:12 oh my god it's Dimitri's evil twin
HHAHAHAHA
The audio sharing port is great for connecting your cellphone with an aux to aux cable so that you can hear the game sounds and for example listen to music on your phone.
Honestly I love that the arctis microphone is sensitive, it's so fun to troll random people or my friends with mic earrape
Damn, that magic unboxing at 0:06 .. so smooth
The mic on the second headset was better! But arctis 5 was good too. I actually wish arctis 5 for my bday that is on tuesday 1/8
Do you still have it if you do is it any good?
Benji Yes, it’s very good
3:10 That's mainly for media, like watching a movie with a buddy, I do that with my friend all the time
3:50 that ASMR tho
Just ordered a pair of these for $83!! Looking forward to trying them :D
I have this headset and i can say it's great
haven't bought this yet, so does it really uncomfortable to fit it on the neck? I'm a little concern about this...
I liked the fact the mic can be hidden. But agree, the sound is better on the other gaming headset but the mic just sticking out when I only want to listen to music or watch movies
One question is it good if you weare glasses or does it hurt your ears
The gsb 300 mic is sexy
It is just so awesome and useful that in every headset test video you compare the current one to the Sennheiser GSP300. Thank you!
You know its truly a great headset when it says the word 'gaming'?
don't.
HyperX Cloud II FTW!
Best headset I've ever used (and I've used a lot of different headsets). The only negative is that it pushes earcups together too much, so it creates a bit pressure in my wide head which causes slight pain
TheOdinTheory Should I buy this or the kraken pro v2 or the hyperx cloud stinger
Courtney F Get Gsp 300
i have HyperX Cloud Alphas and I can only recomend these. These are also amazing for listening to music. This headset does not have 7.1 Surround Sound but I do not think I am missing any audio keys for example playing Fortnite.
thank you for this review! ive been asking for this for quite a long time now
I'd recommend not buying this one, really bad cord that breaks easily and not replaceable.
yes it is
you can buy a new one in the steelseries website
Mine broke also and i'm really pissed off about it.
I've had mine for a while, hasnt broke on me.. I take care of my things pretty well though.
i really like the headset and im planning to buy one. can you tell me how did it break and how long did the headset last to you?
first of all of you know you like it a lot? Just because the ad says that this headset is good doesen't mean it it's. The ear cushions feel bad and they get hot fast, the sound is ok good but the michrophone is really bad as on every gaming headset. They are not very comfortable. And for me they broke in about 4-6 months i think
I appreciate the honest review!
No one:
Dimitri: dont eat the mic
Ngl good advice
Audio sharing can come in handy on long flights with your significant other or a buddy if you both are trying to watch the same thing together.
I can't hear other people talking to me in games or apps like discrod or teamspeak. They can hear me and I can see that they are speaking, the sound just doesnt come
Edit: I have now fixed it on discord and teamspeak. Still doesnt work in games like h1z1, cs:go and fortnite
Ossi Andersson have you found out why it doesn’t work in games
Just got these recently. Main cable is broken within 2 days and I'm taking care of these like a new born baby.
how did it broke?also what did u replace em?
