My mom lived off of Rampart in the 50's. She would take us to that location as kids. Right before moving to Idaho 16 years ago I took my boys , ages 3 and 6 at the time, to Tommy's. I dream of that place to this day. Now we grow the french fries. Thanks for taking me there with you.

I was born and raised in the apartments a few yards south of the original shack. Funny story, my mom couldn't stand the smell of the chilli when I was still a "bun in the oven" but I LOVE it! A true LA landmark that I hope lasts for generations to come. Great series Adam, keep it up!

In the 70s they did not give you a number because as soon as you blurted out your order it was ready, they did not serve fries only potato chips and they only sold can sodas.

I remember the first time going to that original Tommy's location. After a Carlos Santana concert at the Greek Theatre, I was hungry for a Burger and my Dad took me to this Tommy's. It was very packed that night plus it was a Saturday so obviously it was busy. I've been back there dozens of times but I'll always remember that first time going there. Great vlog Adam.

I was born right around the corner from this place 50 years ago. Rampart is very run down now. So many derelict apartment buildings that look like they must have been beautiful in the 20s and 30s.

Me too. We were students at UCLA in the mid 70s and would make Tommy runs at the end of a long night studying. Or after we drank to much lol. Our go to guy at Tommy’s who was hilarious was Frenchy. Brings back great memories. I live on the east coast for the last 40 years and would sometime dreams of their chili cheese burgers. Doubt if I’ll ever visit LA again but if I did Tommy’s would be on the top of my list.

I remember when I was about 9 or 10 my dad driving the family there for the first time from where we lived in the Valley. I was too young to appreciate the chili. McDonald's or Jack-in-the-Box I thought was better. My tastes have since changed. You just decided for me about where I should dine this weekend. Tommy's in Van Nuys (closer to where I now live) I'm having a craving for.

Tommy's!!!! The very best. I drove around with a friend years ago when they started franchising the place all over California. Some forty stores all with the shack in the sign. Alas, not one of them tastes as good as the Rampart location. Worth every penny day or night. even 4am when you think no one is around there is a line at Tommy's.

You know the coolest places to eat. The original Tommy’s being around for 74 years is so amazing. Chili on fries are so good and it’s so good on hamburgers and hot dogs. You’re absolutely right that we need comfort food right now. Can’t wait to see what’s next 😊👍👍

OMG, my ex husband took me here to eat almost 50 years ago, best chili burger I've ever had. Sodas used to be in the old fashioned cooler that you opened up and slid the soda out.

In the 1970's I was a truck driver in San Fernando Valley. Ate lunch often at the Tommy's on Roscoe Blvd. A bigger place than the original so had dining tables indoors. Great burgers and chili, quick service even at noon.

My dad grew up in Boyle Heights. I was born @ White Memorial just like him. Every time we’d go to L.A. to visit fam, a trip to Tommy’s, Shakeys or El Tepeyac was crucial. Miss those days.

These videos are motivating me to start venturing out and trying new things in my own neck of the woods, once things are ready for that. Thank you for that! When I was a kid I went to a place in Sierra Madre called The Only Place in Town and for some reason it's always stuck with me. Some day I hope to get back to California.

In n out is where you eat, Tommy’s is where you eat and make memories. The Rampart shack is the best one in the chain to get your 1st burger. Thanks for trekkin’ up there,Adam. BTW, where you were standing waiting for your food, back in the day, was where the canned soft drinks were stored (the shack does not have a fountain) in large reach ins. If you ever go back, get your fries “Tommy’s style” chili cheese fries with onion, pickles and tomato on top....the best!

Memories of going to the Original Tommy’s back in the late 70’s...they had the soda cases where you grabbed your bottle, you could eat in the little enclosure (standing up, of course!) the towel dispensers AND the open containers of little peppers on the counters! Then, if you ate in your car, you smelled Tommy’s for over a week! Great times.
