I hated asking customers to sign up for credit cards, that's harassing customers and should not be allowed in no retail. Low pay and not enough hours to pay rent.

Legit the worst, my fucking supervisors kept pestering me while I'm over here getting paid min wage doing a tough job they didn't train me for. Always coming up to me, legit saying "we don't ask the customers if they want to sign up for rewards, we just get them started and tell them to put info in." Being super fake smiley and passive aggressive. They would legit float around doing nothing but harassing their employees instead of actually contributing to the workload. I quit today mid shift because I was fed up and realized that I decide what to do with my time. At first I was gonna wait till the end of my shift because it might inconvenience the customers and that's not their fault but honestly fuck Kohl's that's the fault of their shitty system which milks their employees and customers dry. Walgreen's offered me a position with better hours, better pay, and I know it's gonna be way more chill than this fake ass passive aggressive bs. Sorry for the rant lol

I worked at Kohl's for five years...I don't know how I lasted that long. I was constantly being called to every department to do stuff whether I worked it or not, and I'd get reprimanded for my fitting room not being caught up. I was called the wrong name constantly and told that I had to answer even if they got my name wrong. Customers were extremely degrading and rude at times when I couldn't answer their questions the way they wanted me to, and the management would expect me to just keep myself together and get over it. I also had one lady use my fitting room to change her baby's diaper and left it for me to take care of. I got so much anxiety from working there and I still have nightmares about it, despite quitting seven years ago.
    Sorry for the rant...lol

The rudeness aside, i will say that most retail jobs is like this. Your training is figuring stuff out. You learn the departments, where things are located and you organize (which helps you learn the product) ..its Retail.. if you shop, you already know 99% what to do.. organize, learn the product, help the customers.
That being said... Ive been watching anti Kohls videos because I went shopping there for the first time the other day and I wont be back HA! I honestly cant think why intelligent people think they have good value on product.. its waaaaay over priced there. Your talking wal-mart brand quality stuff for 40% or more upsale. Youd do better shopping at sears or JCPenny or even Macy's. the mens department was a mess.. product all over the place without any rhyme or reason to it..and some products that I was looking for was not even priced. No price...I dont buy.
Anyway good luck working at Victoria's Secret.. though I heard a lot of their stores are struggling too.

@Penny58 this!! I worked there for a year and the floor was *always* overstocked and understaffed so everything was a MESS, if you took 2 hours in intimates they’d tell you you were taking too long but it was always completely trashed and badly in need of a deep cleaning! So many hangers (especially the flimsy ones in intimates) were broken and /at my location at least/ the floor was so dusty and dirty that we would all be sneezing and literally running to the bathroom to blow our noses! Especially if we were working in clearance

I worked for Kohl's for almost 7 years. Most of what she says is true but from my personal experience, hours were pitiful. You could be scheduled 40 hours one week, 5 hours the next. There was zero consistency. My managers were good people but played favorites. All their friends got most of the hours and they would slack off and do nothing because a manager was their buddy. You get overworked and expected to do the work of 10 people because they can't pay for the place to be properly staffed. Basically they will use you and give you hours when they need you but they can't work with you when you want to pick up a few extra hours. I'd see some of the favorites working every day for long shifts but i could barely get scheduled when i was in need of more money. I got plenty of experience though and working retail and holidays sucked. Thank God i have a job now that i love and pays me well.

I’ve worked at a Kohl’s for almost a year now and I completely sympathize with being the only person on the floor. Every day i’m not scheduled as part of the closing team I am the only person working the floor, and I’ve never been trained in shoes, home, infants, girls, boys, or electronics. I don’t really have any issues with my managers though, they’re pretty nice.

  • @333stella

My experience at Kohls was good. It was my first job and I stayed there for a year before being offered a job at a hospital. I was trained for a week. Management was generally nice and understanding. They weren't strict for call ins or sick days. I asked to not work the register due to my anxiety and the store manager took me to the office and talked to me and basically told me it was completely fine and that it took him 5 years to be able to work a register for the same reason. All of my coworkers were very kind and helpful, there was never any drama whatsoever, we all got a $2 pay raise and plenty of hours for being part time. They never expected us to stay too late like during the holidays when we'd have alot of stuff left at the end of the night, we would work what we could with the help of management and then leave the rest on rails for the next day. Customers are a different story, i think for the most part they weren't too bad, but I do remember alot of older ladies being very rude but that's anywhere really.

I watched through this entire video and I'm surprised at how you managed to do this all within one take while being on topic and concise most of the time. I was hired on late September and stayed for the seasonal season (first week of January) and I didn't shadow anyone for training and jumped into it on my first official day of POS. I had nice managers that wanted to get everyone up to speed (even the newer hires in like mid-November) and the coworkers were helpful, so sorry this happened to you.

  • @ddub9696
    @ddub9696 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Sweetie I am so sorry this is the experience at your first job. Your first job should be (ideally) a place where you gain confidence and experience and are treated with respect. I know I shouldn't be surprised, but I am. I kinda put Kohl's above other stores because people there seem more professional than other places, but I guess it's just as crappy as the rest of them....or maybe that's just your local Kohl's.
In ANY case, please don't let it make you bitter because you went in with excitement and enthusiasm, which is so important--and if you keep up that sense, you will do well in another job and another company where they appreciate all that you have to contribute.

I Worked overnight shifts. Which is more, but way more work. Which u would assume, but when your working a 3-4 man job by yourself for 8-10 hours, gets physically stressful. On too of incompetent managers and supervisors, terrible place.

I loved working at Kohls as well.
I don't know if anyone is saying you are a poor worker but, even with my first job a lot of retail is common sense which you seem to have so I don't know why it was so confusing even without training. I agree you were poorly managed but, I think you're more capable and were frustrated with the situation so you didn't want to maybe try harder.
I know people love drama and your views would take a hit if you did positive work experiences but, maybe adding a tidbit in a storytime would make you come across differently. I am new to your channel and you seem like a sweet girl but, as I watch more and more videos that are all about work issue I literally had the thought today, maybe it's her. I'm not saying it is I just often hear you say I'm not going to do that instead of what can I do to help. You come off a bit self centered. This video was a long time ago but, your recent ones have the same vibe and same issues. I would love to keep watching but, it's getting a bit of a new job same old story vibe.

I had my interview for a seasonal position yesterday, and didn’t get hired. They were so unprofessional at my location when I arrived at the store. Just seemed super busy and barely acknowledged my presence. They didn’t even know I had a interview scheduled. And the assistant manger didn’t even introduce himself when I met with him at first and I never met with the manager either. I had to ask who was I speaking with. I was just instructed to fill out my availability, which was part-time. I had a short 5-minute interview with the assistant manager as well. The assistant manger barely asked me questions. Told me he would speak to the manager about my availability, if she approved. I just graduated college and was looking for more retail experience ontop of what I already had. Can’t give you a reason why they didn’t hire me. I’m kind of glad I didn’t get hired, that just told me God has something better for me. Their loss.

The first one where I learned everything was amazing. (Started during spring) All college kids sticking together getting through a shift then maybe even hanging out after work. We all helped each other and had fun plus if we wanted more hours we made a page on Facebook where people can post to take others shifts. The next location was pure hell and didn’t have shit together. I was so upset but I followed my husband to his new station so I didn’t last long there. I was pregnant at the time and they made me cry a lot with how rude they were.

Worked at Kohl’s for one month. They did not train me well at all! And we’re upset when I would make a mistake but how was I suppose to know?!? I would always ask questions, and they would always look at me stupid. The managers are rude, and do not respect your schedule! I was going to school and they forced me to miss class to come in early in the morning or they would not give me anymore hours, and that was the first day! The next time they messed up my schedule and gave me hours I couldn’t work with, so I called to them, and they said I need to figure it out. So I just told them I couldn’t make it and couldn’t find anyone to cover my shifts, so I just did a no show! Then they messed up on pay check and didn’t pay me the right amount and I called a million times and they would just hang up on me. I finally just stopped showing up and every time they would call I would tell them I’m not working until they pay me $175 they owe me and hang up on them. I will never shop with them! And everyone in family doesn’t shop with them, since they treated me with such disrespect. And they are rude to most of there employees.

This is my current experience with Kohls. I started back in November for seasonal, and they kept me on, and I’m putting my two weeks in on the 1st of April. One manager is so rude, specifically to me, and I have no idea what I ever did to her. She pulled me aside one day when I wasn’t getting credit and basically told me that i’m no help to the stores credit goal. That “whatever i’m doing, i need to throw that out the window because it’s obviously not working”. Didn’t help me improve, just tore me down. They’re so unorganized, and try calling you in on the days you put that you cant work on your availability . My coworker put her two weeks in and they were still scheduling her even after she gave them her letter. If you don’t get at least 3 credits a shift, they treat you like trash. I get all stores have their goal for credit cards, but these managers don’t help you with improving at all. The first of the month cannot come any sooner.

If I had to guess, you spoke with the administration on the phone, and she was probably just having a bad day for her own reasons and then the nicer ladies was one of the managers. I’d love to still work there because the store was one of the best teams to work with but Covid kinda messed it up so I moved on.

Your testimony reminds me a lot of when I was a new hire at Mervyns. No training, just figure it out and act like you know the answer. Look where Mervyns is today, bankrupt and gone. The interesting thing is kohls reminds me of the former Mervyns store format layout, and everything is always on sale at kohls just like Mervyns was. The management at Mervyns just stayed in the office away from the customers "writing the schedule" and were irritated when bothered, funny how all seven of them always went to lunch together at 12 sharp.

The credit card applications were a huge issue. They would push them like crazy and even go as far as to cut you off in the middle of talking to a customer, get on your register and start pitching the credit card. I was disgusted with how the place was ran.

I don’t really ever write on social media, but I am trying to reach out to as many as people as I can to get some Insight and advice for my current situation. If you have ever worked with Kohl’s, Loss Preventions, Criminal Justice, Lawyers, or any Retail type of work your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I first got a letter from Kohl’s about 2 months ago basically saying I owe $375 and if I don’t pay I will be sent to collections, apparently this was actually the second letter I got but I never got the first one. Of course I called right when I got this even though I thought it maybe a scam. It was in fact real though, I called their corporate office I told them I never stolen anything from Kohl’s they told me I needed to go to any Kohl’s and they could find out what was going on “they would have a profile with this case ID”. I go to my closest store Elk Grove, I talk with a Loss preventions associate, I show him the notice he tells me that he will give it to his Supervisor Steven and have him reach out to me. Steven called me that day and the only thing he told me was he was going to look into it and get back to me. Needless to say I never did hear from Steven again. I went back to the store many, many times. The first store manager I talked with was Alice, she was nice and seemed actually concerned and told me that she will make sure he reaches out to me. Each time I went to the store they made a copy of the letter I received and left my number. After about the sixth time going to the store I talked with a different store manager Liz, I’m now 2 days till supposedly they are going to send collections after me. Liz tells me that they don’t know the Loss Preventions Supervisor (Steven) schedule and they are not suppose to know it or they are just not allowed to say when he is in or out. Again Liz seemed like a nice person I told her I would come back in an hour the same day which I did and she tells me he is not in. This whole time I have also been calling the store as well as corporate to find out what is going on. Finally Liz tells me that Steven told her to tell me to just do what is on the paper and he is not allowed to talk to me about the case. Needless to say at this point I’m extremely frustrated, he really could have told me that the first day he reached out to me instead of me making tons of store visits and phone calls over two months, or stop telling me that he will reach out to me and you will make sure that will happen. I never got a call from them, ever.
During this whole time I’m trying to reach out to the store I am still calling corporate to try and find out what this is about. I tell them it’s not me they tell me go to the store or go to the police department to fill out some forms. I’m not sure if this was Identity theft, where it happen when it happen or anything. It seems they wanted to give me as little information as possible. When the store finally told me that Steven could not talk with me, I did go to the Elk Grove Police Department. I talked with a officer at the desk there not really sure what I’m supposed to be doing I showed him the letters, he asked a few questions, have you lost your ID and some other things, then they ran my ID said there was nothing pending against me the case on the paper was a store case. He told me I can write up what is happening and submit it the next day with the letters they sent me and it opens a case or something like that. I called corporate again when I get home tell them I went to the police department and what they told me, they told me I need to file a Identity Theft report for them to keep collections from Happening. Then they finally told me the date the incident happen May 22, 2019 and this is where it began to get interesting and very upsetting.
My wife was at work the day I got this information, when she got home I asked her was that the Day I did a return at kohl’s she got the receipt and told me yes. I call the Corporate Office the next morning I said I think I got this figured out, I was there on May 22nd I did a legitimate return and asked them what they were actually accusing me of. I told him, every couple years it seems my wife likes doing a spring cleaning and everything our kids did not like or wear and she did not like she asked if I could return it this was all brand new never been used things. I have done this before and said sure. On May 22, 1019 I went to that Kohl’s in Elk Grove I went through the front door directly to returns waited in a small line talked to the returns clerk who I told the same thing to my wife was just doing spring cleaning and this is all the stuff she wanted to get rid of. She told me typical returns policy I could only get store credit and it would be for the lowest sales price they had for the item, I said no problem. There were a handful of items that were too old that were no longer in their system we finished up the return. The amount was too high they told me that I would get a store credit card in the mail and if I did not receive it call the number on the bottom. Sure enough I did end up needing to call that number they told me they needed to do a couple follow up questions mainly why I was returning all that stuff I told her the same thing about the wife and they sent out the card.
The Corporate person who I told this to then proceeded to tell me what the Loss Preventions person wrote up in his report, he said that they have me on camera come into the store stop at a kiosk grab something off the kiosk and proceed to claims where I tried to return that item. HE (Steven) then confronted me at returns where I gave him my ID and I guess they still let me do the return? His story was a little confusing. At this point Now I’m really upset, not only I have I never shoplifted in my life, they are lying about what I did, trying to extort me to pay $375 or be sent to collections, and telling me I’m lying. Even the Corporate person I was talking with said, it was hard for him to believe my story because they would have not just let me walk into the front of the store without stopping me and checking what I was bringing store. After we hung up I was in disbelief I know they have all the evidence, I know they have the phone conversations in. Which I’m not sure if different locations have this policy but I have never been stopped or have seen someone at the entrance that checks merchandise I know Walmart and some other places do. He then told me that they will delay the collections and get back to me next week after he sends an email to the I had with corporate, I know they have all the items I did a return on. Why would I waste so much time and energy if I got confronted by Loss Preventions it would have been the first thing I told my wife that day, that Kohl’s was accusing me of stealing I would have never spent so much time and energy trying to figure out what was going on.
Sorry for the long story So that is where I am currently at, not sure what I can and should do next. I’m not sure what they teach at Kohl’s Loss Preventions like if they are suspicious of something write it up and just threaten the person and hope they are right so the person just ends up paying. Not sure if I should reach out to a Lawyer for Defamation. Can I file a police report I only gave my ID to the returns lady to do the return and this claims person stole my ID to fabricate this case? This has seriously been stressing me out, SO any advice or feedback would be great thanks.

Wake up call: if you work retail, you WILL be working most, if not all, "Federal holidays" 😅
Retail sucks, not gonna lie, but if you think you're getting holidays off, you're sadly mistaken 😊

Wow only 1 manager lol That's really messed up, plus the way that they treated you. You should have been trained at LEAST a month and a half before the holiday season. Everything done wrong, really sad. Sorry you had to deal with that bs

My sister shops at Kohl's often yet she never sees the same workers very often. Now I understand why they leave. Years ago after college i worked in the office of a higher end store. Sometimes a sales associate would be brought into the office and critiqued loudly to the point of tears. Retail associates should be respected so much more.
