This is tremendously moving. Paul Simon's powerful lyric and music. Christian Elsasser's fine arrangement and Kurt's masterful performance. The orchestra is terrific too. AND.This is a song whose impact increases with every passing day as the America we have known is in such turmoil.
I was there that night at Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam. The orchestra on the lap of the audience on the first row. I come back to listen to this every now and then. Crying my eyes out as I did that night, 8 years ago. Pure beauty.
I go away....after listening to this song....totally blown away by the impact it has on my outlook on life. In everyone’s life there are some seminal moments that stamp an everlasting impression on one’s life. After I wipe the copious amount of tears that flow down my cheeks...I think ...can a performance get any better than this? Luckily, I have the benefit of the electronic medium to repeat the process ..over ...and over....and over again!... God how I love this song!
Beautifully crafted arrangement, this is high art. Wonderful brass and woodwind sounds, combining with Mr Elling's rich voice, but then the strings are gorgeous too. Inspired and inspiring.
Live at the forthcoming BlueNoteTokyo of K.Elling on June 20. Ladys And Gentlemen in Tokyo, Let's go! listen to the good music, the great jazz singer, Kurt Elling with Bob Mintzer Big Band! The seats are free, yet.

beautiful . arrangement reminds me of maria schneider ... in fact, kurt should do something with maria!!!
I love the way he does this song... but it was in A major on his album. I'm wondering why he changed the key to C. It sounded even more amazing in A.
littlewillow85 probably because it’ s taken at a slower tempo an the orchestral arrangement here Is a bit darker (beautiful).....I love both versions.
Kurt Elling's a human.
we came on a ship they called terrorstorm
