I was born on this beautfiul little island Malta. Malta may be small but don't be fooled as the fascination is in it's many layers from it's North African and arabic influences to the Sicillean cuisine, concentrated history, architecture and beaches with crystal blue waters. From prehistoric temples to the baroque architecture of Valetta (capital), feasts of rabbits to fiestas of noisy fireworks, rattling buses to the colourful fishing boats this island will seduce you with it's own unique charm. Throughout much of it's history Malta was considered to have a crucial strategic location due to it's position in the Mediterranean sea. It was held by several ancient cultures but under British rule this tiny island staunchly supported Britain through both world wars. Being a British colony situated close to Sicily and the axis shipping lanes Malta was bombarded during the second world war by the Italian and German Air Forces. Malta was used by the British to launch attacks on the Italian Navy and had a submarine base and was also used as a listening post reading German messages including enigma traffic. On the 14th April 1942 King George VI awarded the George Cross to the island fortress of Malta - it's people and defenders. Franklin D. Roosevelt arrived on 8th December 1943 and presented a United States Presidential Citation to the people of Malta from the people of the United States. In part it reads: "Under repeated fire from the skies, Malta stood alone and unafraid in the centre of the sea - one tiny bright flame in the darkness - a beacon of hope for the clearer days which have come." The complete citation now stands on a plaque on the wall of the Grand Masters Palace on Republic Street depicting the bravery of the Maltese people.
Well I have read through the comments and all I can say to those (very few who are dissing Malta) is OPEN YOUR GOD DAMN EYES!!!! I am English, and have been going to Malta for over 30 years and I still haven't seen all of the beautiful treasures that this island holds. Yes there is a lot of Building work going on which meets you from the airport, and it does give you the first impression of a bit of a war zone. However, Malta is an Island you either love or hate. There is no in between. Hate is as you wish, but don;t condemn what you don't understand!! When, you arrive at your destination and settle in for your holiday, try to explore Malta for its true self!! Only then will you see the beauty of this Island for what it really is, and the people there are the friendliest on the planet!! Malta has some hidden gems that need to be explored and i too, am still exploring them. I have been going to Malta since i was 9 years old and have still not seen its full beauty. I have many Maltese friends who have taken me to the most beautiful places over the last 30 years and i am always amazed at the new places that greet me. Although this is a small Island. Malta has an awful lot to offer. No matter what age you are it will always be able to give you what you seek. Many disapproving attitudes come from people that don't do their research and end up in the wrong area for their needs. Each resort offers different things. So before you go , do your research and find out which resort suits your requirements and i bet you have a GREAT TIME... I love this island and the people that live here, and in the future i hope i am blessed with many more new friends,
This is great promo for our dear Island... the smallest island in the very centre of the Mediterranean Sea... an Island with 7000 years of history. Many thanks on behalf of the Maltese Nation scattered all over the world: Australia, USA, Canada, UK, etc. We are very proud of our dear Island, the SmartIsland... and then we knew that the Island was called MALTA. We are very friendly and tourists that come for the 1st time would return a 2nd time... some of them they even retire here :-)
very nice video! me and my better half are thinking of going here next year! think you made our decision final! great editing on the vid. love the bum! :p and great sunset at the end!
Was there in 2013 and now im sitting in Germany and I'm missing Malta so much. Such an extremely beautiful country and the biggist and also cheapest party place! If there would be more beaches, it would be the best place in the world, but nevertheless i'll come back soon :)
Yes, I've been to Mykonos cos I've lots of Greek business associates in Australia, and I'm even invited to Melbourne's Lonsdale Street's annual Greek Festival. They speak very highly about Mykonos and I decided to give it a try. Beautiful place, nothing to complain at all. Mykonos' aura is also partially created by the media, while the equally beautiful Malta is relatively less promoted by the media.
Awesome video Fil! I randomly stumbled upon your channel because I just uploaded my own world travels video. It looks like you had tons of fun! Great work filming & editing! I just recently started making travel videos about a month ago while traveling Europe. I know all the hard work that goes into it! Your videos great! Have a good day!
I do really like Malta been a few times there. But Sicily is very beautiful and lovely. Sicily is a very Magical. Taormina was awesome. Like the both really :P
One of the best videos i have seen, Malta is really great i hope you upload more videos from futures holidays,! What program you used tu edit all this???
Amazing beautiful island ! I have lived in Malta for about 7 months and I will alway come back to Malta!! I felt in love with Malta! Amazing video, I wondered where is Blue Grotto? What's is the name of this lovely song? Cheers :-)
The Blue Grotto (Maltese: Taħt il-Ħnejja) is a number of sea caverns on the south coast of Malta, east of the fishermen's harbour Wied iż-Żurrieq in the village of Qrendi. It is located right across from the small uninhabited islet of Filfla.[1] Every day from sunrise until about 1 pm a unique sight can be observed here. The location of the cave combined with the sunlight lead to the water mirroring showing numerous shades of blue. Several caverns mirror the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora; other caverns show a deep dark shade of blue.
IMO, Malta is the mini-Greece Crystal blue waters, loads of sunshine, great food, friendly people, and located just south of Sicily. One of the smallest most beautiful places on Earth.
très touristique a une certaine saison mais vraiment joli originale et les Maltais une fois que l'ont a des amis c'est vraiment sympa la bas pour y avoir travaillé 2 ans et demi pour les centres commerciaux nouveau
well done for the video but I do not think it is summer 2011, Arriva was already operating the routes whilst you have the old buses here.........but...I like the video.
