I live in on one of those streets! My husband and I own our house. We keep the house up we keep it clean we keep the yard clean! It's not a movie star house it's not a movie star neighborhood but the block we live on there are plenty of houses that are nice and kept up! Who ever made that video she have spoken to the owners of the houses before recording! The name of the area is called Dixie and you are right there are people who take care of their houses and property! They have jobs they pay their bills they pay their property taxes every year! You know what? I could go on and on but it would take too long and I might sprain my fingers! I work at a hair salon and I need my fingers to work!

@@carashanks4955 I'm not saying I completely disagree with you because at the end of the day, of course YOU are your biggest asset...BUT...the country is in a SERIOUSLY fucked up position right now. It's heartbreaking, but every single night just about when I'm working I have somebody roll up on me on a bicycle asking if they can do anything at all to help just so they can make a few dollars. These aren't drug seekers, alcoholics, etc. These are folks that genuinely want to work, and they simply cannot find sustainable work at the moment. And honestly, I think we desperately need another shut down the way the numbers are going. The govt needs to get off their asses, the election is fucking over, and start wheeling and dealing over another stimulus so people can keep a roof over their heads and some food in their stomachs. So many people are teetering on the edge, but this all has nothing to do with Baton Rouge specifically. This is everywhere. I truly fear for our children/grandchildren. It's not fair what they are going to inherit from us, but all we can do is hope that better heads prevail. Ok...end rant. My bad y'all... 🤣😛

I live on one of the streets in the video. My husband and I own our house. We keep the house up we keep the yard clean. We keep our cars in the garage. Is it perfect? No. Is it a movie star house in a movie star neighborhood? No. Not by any stretch of the imagination! But it belongs to us and we take care of what we have! We are not wealthy. If we were we would not be living in Dixie. By the way I did not name the area someone else did! However we work hard at our jobs. We pay our bills and we pay our property taxes every year. My neighbors keep their houses up and keep their yards clean. Its not perfect I know. All too well. There are places that need to be cleaned up and cleaned out. I wish the politicians would get involved and clean Dixie up! Don't get me started on Louisiana politics! I have been living in Louisiana my entire life and Hollywood makes politicians sound and look too good! But I wish someone would have spoken to me about the video. I would have said plenty! I could go on and on but I will stop! I'm afraid i might sprain my fingers! I work at a hair salon and I need my fingers to work! Make a full documentary and speak to the people! Dixie can be fixed. It's the powers that be who can fix it! They know Dixie needs help but they will not put their lavish parties aside to do a damned thing about it! Talk to the politicians who beg for our votes then abandon us after!

I wish you could have paused or zoomed to get more street signs. I caught the first one, South 21st street. If you went north a few blocks and then around the two cemeteries, you'd be on North 21st street, aka Scenic Highway. A few more blocks and you'd pass Bay St, then a couple more to Chestnut St. Turn left and go down to 15th street and turn right. Go a few houses and on the left is the house where I lived from age 5 to 14. My grandparents on my mother's side lived across the street. Our house backed up the the KCS railyard, and across the yard there was a hobo camp that we would on rare occasion visit. Of course crossing the railyard was dangerous, and if anyone's mother spotted us going over or under railcars, then OUR mothers would hear about it. At the north end of 15th street was a pasture where one family had horses. I've lived elsewhere since age 18, but I've in recent times "driven" the streets where I was a kid in Baton Rouge via Google Streetview. Only one word comes to mind when I see that neighborhood now compared to the 1950's: sad.
John Ed Pearce: "Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave, and grow old wanting to get back to.

Old Jefferson Highway by Long's Farm is kinda bad, and Baker by the Walmart. This was told to me by family who used to live in the area.

My ex husband grew up in glen oaks area back behind Earl K. Long hospital. It was a good neighborhood in the 70s and 80s.
Now it's a not so good area.

They choose to live in a hood. Walk over their trash instead of bending over & pick it up to put it in the trash can. They choose to spend their money on car rims & not a can of paint to have their homes look like a decent family is living in it...i know...i live next door to one of those houses with trash all over...weeds knee high & the car rims that cost more than the car itself. No one to blame but themselves.

I live off Old Scenic heading into Zachary. I worked in some of these poor neighborhoods. Yes, south of Zachary it does get that bad and worse. I’ve walked those streets by foot with cops and the Sheriff’s while they did community policing (not my choice). The rundown houses and trash in some places will amaze you.

So basically you’re showing problems that are nationwide. You’re looking at Wealth inequality, you’re looking at Racism, healthcare inequality, resource inequality etc. I’d be willing to bet the police presence in these neighborhoods is no where near what it is around Fraternity Row or the wealthier neighborhoods in BR. I only watched a few minutes of your video, I’m not sure what you think you’re doing? If you’re trying to right a wrong, you’re not helping. Did you stop and talk to anyone in these neighborhoods?
And yes I’ve seen worse streets in NOLA. If you beat someone down long enough, some might break.
And as the saying goes, If you’re not part of the solution you’re part of the problem!

@@vooveks Ok thanks I just watched some of this video. I live between BR and NOLA along the River in a small town, but have also lived in NOLA. I’ve always tried to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
I feel that it doesn’t take grand gestures but small every day things make a difference.
