He really was putting all his emotions and frustration into his mixtape RM. He got so much hate and disrespect when he became an idol. Even though he lost friends and was made fun of he never stopped. He kept going forward with BTS and look at them now. They are on top of the world.

I have high respect for rm. Being around 18-19 to accept bighit offers while having his own life as underground rappers w his friends. And seeing them backstabbing him, instead of wishing him well, he put trust in a family he doesnt even know yet or what the future would be for them. To leave what he had before to trust a new chapter in his life isnt easy, especially when youre around that age. But i guess its fate, all the relationship/ success that bts build from the bottom was not easy. To build chemistry w each other and not giving up together...big respect to them. No wonder as leader, rm is so proud at bts and where they are now.

Both RM and Suga especially have received so much criticism because they joined BTS. If you listen to their first mixtapes, they really went all out.

This mixtape, “RM”, really is drastically different to his recent one, “Mono”. There’s a lot of unaired aggression in the first one, frustrations and raw emotion. And then in “Mono”, you can see where he’s matured from his emotions and analyzes the world in a different view. Pretty amazing to have such growth from mixtape to mixtape.
I’ve been waiting for this reaction. Can’t wait to see what you think of RM’s “Monster”, and “Do You”.

He was rapping since teenage in k hiphop scene, he was known abd famous then and was known as one of the one of youngest but best in underground
This is one of my favorite songs from RM's first mixtape. There's so much anger and aggression in all of it, but this song is strong yet full of vulnerability and uncertainty. It was released in 2015 before BTS really exploded in SK, so it was inbetween failure and success. He did so well though, and his newer mixtape, Mono, has such a maturity to it. VERY mellow and healing.

Thank you so much for your appreciation for RM. He went through a lot, maybe hated slandered and cursed the most.. I'm so proud of him for not resenting or hating back but expressing all the struggles and pains through his music, only to become a deeper musician and the most mature person. And you know what his second mixtape is an untimate healer to all kinds of depression and anxiety💜

Just a thought - Maybe the little clip of video was a visual symbolisation of RM being unrapped, as in his reputation as a rapper being removed by his peers. (bandages symbolising his rep/former image and the act of someone unwrapping/unrapping the bandages reveals the man beneath). He's certainly clever enough to think of showing his use of wordplay visually as well as orally through his music.

Namjoon was a 13 yo whe he became an underground rapper in 2007, got famous, joined some rap crews but later joined a company and deleted all his songs when BPB was created around 2010, after that he received a lot of hate for "betraying hip hop" and that later on ended up being the reason of his identity crisis (kpop idol vs rapper/artist) and one of the main themes of his first mixtape.
people he considered his friends, people he used to do music with, all of them betrayed him and started to mock his new path, RM was just a 16yo dealing with too much hate

Listen on your own to P.D.D. (Please Don’t Die with Warren D.), Glory, Voice, and Always. All Namjoon’s solo songs give a glimpse of the emotions he was going through at that time. It is sometimes hard for me to not tear up when thinking what this young boy (at the time) was experiencing. I have the upmost respect for Namjoon and Suga for persevering through all the rejection and ridicule. You appear sincere and maybe empathetic in your reactions…otherwise I would not bother to comment and recommend these older songs to you. Thank you for taking time to appreciate BTS and the rapline. They really are incredible artists.

Definitely from the period of identity crisis and anxieties being experienced over the hate he was getting as a rapper/idol. Unwrapping the bandages signifies his awakening, like a Phoenix rise from the ashes, after death comes rebirth.
MNET Focus RM 4 steps doc. captures on camera the ridicule he was getting from so called friends. I think the word betrayal was bandied around as a disguise for their inner jealousy because of the platform RM was now stepping on.

To me at the end when he is unwrapping himself from the gauze, it's like a metamorphose, a healing from all the burns he received from those fake people he talks about in the rap. He has healed, matured, and came out perfect where he is now and he can move on to the person in the black hat.
As I said under your previous reaction, watch The Rise of Bangtan, please. And you will see what RM (and also Suga) have to faced in the begining (they were not succesfull at this time, they just begin ! ) . Not only from other underground rappers, but from old friends and first bandmates . It's heartbreaking because he was young (18 years old), uncertain he have made the good choice to stay when the CEO cancelled the rapp project and decided to create a idol/hip hop group (so he have to dance... and as he said "I'm a rap monster, not a dance monster Lol ! ) He think he have something to prove to people who diss him, and questionning himself about who he really is : a rapper, a pop singer, an idol ... till the day he decides that he don't have to stay in one box, and can be whatever he want. He matures and grew a lot, and we can feel it between the first and the second mixtape (sorry, I didn't expect to do this coment so long and my english is not very on point ! )

Indeed, there are a lot of videos about it, he had some groups when rapping underground, people he called friends... They backstabbed him, in a tv show (4 corners or something like that) where they said he was ugly and didn't think he could make it as an idol... at the end he wrote Unpack my bags and said "I'll prove to you that I can succeed".
On another one, he (and Suga/Yoongi) got mocked and they said to them they were girls for wearing make up and that they weren't rappers anymore... so yeah. He was angry, really angry and thirsty to prove those people wrong.

PS. He didn't "become part of BTS", he was BTS (he was the first out of the 7 to sign a contract in 2010 and the band was built around him ^^)

The reason people Rap, do music, write, make art, is to communicate. Even credibility pales compared to that. The more famous you are, the more people you can communicate with. You want people to hear what you have to say. The artists who stay focused on that and don't get distracted by the money and stuff, are happier, and more successful, in the end. And into perpetuity.

He started writing this song I believe around the time they had just debuted. So around ‘13-‘14, but I believe the whole mixtape wasn’t released until 2015. I could be wrong but I know his was released before SUGA’s.
