This story is of one of the most famous writers in the horror genre Stephen King. "The method of breathing" was first published in the storybook "Different Seasons" in 1982. Each story in this book is related to one of the seasons. "The method of breathing" is a winter fairy tale. The story consists of three parts and tells about the old Mr. Eldie, who comes to a mysterious nameless club. He tries to find out the secrets of the institution. Mr. Eldie tries not to interfere much and not make it dangerous for his life. He has been coming there for 10 years. Old gentlemen gather in the club and tell stories. The motto of the club is "A secret in history, not in the narrator". Every Tuesday, the visitors tell special stories - about the supernatural. Later, the main character finds many books of non-existent writers in the library of the club. He understands that this mysterious place can really be dangerous.

Underrated story overshadowed by the other amazing stories in Different Seasons. Maybe not as movie-worthy, but still an engaging read. I love the “men’s club” framing, and I wish we’d go back to it someday.

I've always imagined that, some years later, say after the narrator David Adley's wife had died, and he went on to spend more and more time at the club, a night finally came where David Adley went deeper into the house...and became lost (perhaps encountering some horrible fate...or perhaps going on an adventure). Or, standing at the door with Stevens, Stevens opened the door to that horrific world, thrusting Adley out into it, and trapping him there forever.

Thank you for the recommendation, it’s a charmed match to find a skillfully crafted book by a gifted storyteller, that is also read by a talented voice in timbre, tone and rhythm, expressive acting. The musical score to breathe the story to life. Yet, you never know what chemistry you’ll concoct when blindly choosing from the mix of authors to readers, mix-and-match. As such, gggI do enjoy recommendations!

Stephen Kings stories always start out boring, but I stick with them and end up on a roller coaster ride of fear, laughter, and calm. Too me he is the greatest writer, and each story is as great as the one I read before it. Thank you.

I like the story very much but I don 't like men talking about giving birth to babies! It 's as if a blind man talks about colour! I remember when I gave birth to my daughter , my labour lasted so long that the nurse and doctor were concerned and looked at each other not noticing that I knew what was going on!
At least my baby daughter was born with the assistance of a suction bell, nevertheless it was very painful, of course for the baby too! Every birth is different and every woman has to find her own technique or method! In my case "The Breathing Method" wouldn 't have worked!

The only 'horror' story wrote in Different Seasons. His agent thought he would be typecast as a horror writer so he wrote the other three stories to show he could do non horror.
He did this story to be cute as the final story in the anthology.

Narrated by the late great Frank Muller. Stephen King and John Grisham among many others considered him the goat of narrators. He was injured severely in a motorcycle accident in November 2001. He lingered until June 2008 when he died in a hospital in North Carolina I believe. I think it was Duke University hospital ?

Loved Franks voice, especially in the Dark Tower Series. Noticed there's a big push for multi narrators and the "voice over acting" kind of narration. I don't mind almost any type of narration but being O.G. Frank and his style of reading will always be my favorite.

      Muller is a legend.
      Theres something special about
      a single narrator.
It has the magic feeling that Grandma or Grandpa is sitting
near a cozy fireplace sharing the events of the story first hand just for you. 😍

In the authors' defensse, I think in this case it opens up the uncertainty of whether the doctor was just spinning a yarn or had actually experienced the events. It could also open the club up as something to be expanded on in a future story.
