"When you meet another Mainer outside of Maine there's an instant bond." So true.
When I went to school in Connecticut, I was surrounded by people from NY/NJ/MA/CT. Just by chance I met a girl from Maine (I've since graduated and she was still the only Mainer I'd met there), and she immediately offered me rides home. We still keep in touch.
Just thought I'd share that, because that is also what makes me proud of my state. Thanks to this guy for putting it into words!

*_Southern hospitality is real and should be a source of pride._* Everyone says hello and just about everyone holds doors for you. Went on a business trip to NC with a coworker who had never been to the south. Very first day a nurse opened the entrance door for us at a hospital. "Let me get that for you. How are you gentlemen doing today?" Coworker was shocked and asked me the most odd question. "Do you know her?" I gave him my WTH look to which he said "It's just that she was so nice to us." 😐

@AJ I've been to Louisiana three times and had exceptional Southern hospitality in Baton Rouge. One example - Business associate and I were having some drinks at a pub when a girl overheard us talking about restaurants. She came over and gave us several local spots to hit and overrated places to avoid. Said to ask anyone at our hotel and they would confirm. She couldn't have been nicer and her recs were spot on.
