    I'm enjoying your build. Great progress!

    Anything more complicated would likely form a horizontal mushroom cloud of gear oil, shavings, and a deep sense of unease.

    If you have already considered these topics, please ignore the following topics: Filler-hole with remote filtered breather, drain plug with magnet fitted in a pocketed 'mini-sump' to stop oil turbulence from keeping metallic parts in suspension, larger diameter or greater number of clamping bolts with extra dowels to prevent differential twisting of end-plates/shaft-flex wear. It may sound like overkill, but I'd hate to think that this beauty failed and got stowed in the back of a dingy shed for decades!
    On the subject of belts, braces, ships & ha'p'orths of tar, I'm not suggesting more weight and over-complication, merely the prevention of disappointment along with the associated tearing of hair, gnashing of teeth, muttering of foul oaths, etc. Keep at it, looking forward to seeing self-propulsion!

      @@nlo114 some of those already in hand, the rest I'll ponder. Thanks for all the input, I'm sure it won't end up neglected in the back of a shed 💪

    DOH! And I was trying to figure out how/where you were get a counter shaft in there? And I was thinking you were going to drive the rear wheel form each side at the same time? Then I saw the two different size drive sprockets. So really, no need for teeth on the gears. Kuhl! I can see an issue coming up with chain wear tho. If you add a roller tensioner on each side you can keep even chain play on both chains over it's lifetime. You could even use the gearbox as an oil tank too since you have no gear mesh. Single gear Harley drag bikes from the 60's used the gear box for the engine's oil tank.

      @@JaySiewers never thought of using the gear box as an oil tank! Thanks for that 😁 The gears have teeth because they're standard Norton items. We've only made the centre shaft, outer case and selector shafts - but that's enough work in itself 😁

      @@StoneEng I didn't know what gears they were but noticed the one gear on the right had pretty bad teeth. Doesn't matter for a mockup tho. But if used as an oil tank you would want to take the teeth off the slider gears and maybe leave 2 teeth, opposite each other to splash feed the bearings. All those teeth left on will froth the oil. Not a good thing. And a low oil tank will have less wet sumping of the crankcases. I like that you can sellect your gear ratios externally, by sprocket size. Makes it much easier to dial in your shifting points. I'd try to look up internal gear ratios on two speed automatics for a reference point to compare with what you already picked. Just some food for thought after you get it on the road.

    Those gears look very narrow to handle the torque of that engine, and why only two speed? Surely the engine would have a very narrow rev range and could probably do with 15 or more speeds? What am I missing?

      @StoneEng  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrBradfordchild it should have enough torque, the bike isn't that heavy and with a bit of clutch slipping I think it should be ok. Well see 😲

    I do hope you can get this on the road before the government car and bike haters don't ban self made vehicles. First rule of control is ban private firearms, second rule ban private transport....

      They did that here in Phoenix Arizona USA in 2003. The speaker at the city council meeting said "people are actually building their own machines" ... And I said just like during the industrial revolution which made this country great! They still banned ALL motorized vehicles from any public place in the city. Then started ticketing children for riding Power Wheels on city sidewalks. True story.

    I was wondering why two drive chains. Now I understand. Very unusual.
