She seems to be a loving, kind and passionate woman. I've been a fan of Melanie's work since first hearing Brand New Key (which is not a favorite) in the '70s and rediscovered her talented songwriting a decade later. Simply beautiful in every way.
I saw Melanie after Richie Havens went off that first night of Woodstock '69 and she was one sweet lovable singer playing in front of a hundred thousand people in the rain.

I'm pleased I wasn't the only one who picked upon Judy's condescension. I remember the interview from almost 30 years ago. I loved Judy, was noncommittal about Melanie. Glad I wasn't reading too much into the interview. I think he picks up on the attitude and tries channeling rather than railroad it.
Alan I am a long distance friend who lives in Australia! (Melbourne) Melanie actually lives in Nashville these days, but maybe you know of her beloved Rag House in NJ, back in the 70s.
She did many great songs, including the wonderful version of Leonatd Cohen's Suzanne. Of note, she is the actual Judy Blue Eyes in CSN's Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.
I've been a big fan of Melanie's for decades, but it does strike me as peculiar that so many Melanie fans feel it's necessary to tear down other artists (almost always female artists) as a way of bolstering their support for Melanie. It's a small but consistent thread in so many of these posts about Melanie.
Judy hijacks the interview and makes it an infomercial for her new song about Sarajevo! I love Judy's music far more than Melanie's, but here she come across as a stuck up, selfish hag.
Wow! I love Judy Collins's music, but she is not very likeable here. Stiff and unfriendly to Melanie in the guy's intro (look at her body language). She issues some brief shallow, unfelt praise of Melanie, and then proceeds to hijack the interview. She even obnoxiously starts singing at length some new song she has just recorded. What a jerk. Melanie seems very nice.
