Loved Melanie, she never quite got the recognition of some of her contemporaries that she deserved.

Phil, you have captured the beauty of who Melanie was! I have loved her and her music through the years since 1971. That love shall last forever! Your tribute to her life was touching and very honest. Thank You from the heart of a grateful fan of Our Dear One.

Very sad news for me, she was a big inspiration for my late 60s early 70s musical beginnings. I went to college with someone whose father ran a radio show in NYC and had Melanie on as her very first public appearance. I finally got to meet Melanie briefly in 1975. There will not be anyone else like her to come again. Thanks Phil for this tribute.

Melanie was part of the 60/70s star who will be sorely missed. On this video, you showed Ballroom Streets but the one that was released just before just this one Photograph is a terrific album, one that stood out when her popularity was fading. Of course, who can forget her in Woodstock? Her recordings at Carnegie Hall were absolutely fantastic. No one would forget the Beautiful People she brought us. Great tribute, Phil.

Bummer. I'm an old man who was at Woodstock when I was 19. I didn't get to hear Melanie's set, but I remember sitting in a car with some people during a rain storm on Saturday Night, and we burned a candle inside the car while listening to the Who. Back in the day one of my favorite songs was “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” I still listen to the song on a regular basis. It takes me right back to my youth. Rest in Peace Melanie and thanks for the memories.

Hallo, thanks for your great memories of that time, I live in Germany and Woodstock was only possible for me on the albums and later the dvds but I love it as the other big festivals, we will keep Melanie in good memory and listen to her music, yesterday I listened to her album "Candles in the Rain", it's great ! ☮❤ from Berlin.

I still can't believe it, just a few days ago Melanie proudly announced her new double album "The Eagle Mountain House" on her official TH-cam channel. My last song I heard from her last year was "LAY DOWN (Candles In The Rain) Melanie & The Edwin Hawkins Singers v. 1970, it's also one of my favourite albums and the cover photo is fantastic. Her performances in Woodstock, Glastonbury etc.are unforgettable, she was such a free spirit, rest in peace dear Melanie 🙏your beautiful songs live on☮❤ thank you Phil for your heartfelt words !

Thank you for this tribute to the wonderful Melanie Safka. For years Ballroom streets was the only Melanie album I owned. A few years ago I listened to her again and her music hit me in a deeper way than it had before. I began exploring her catalog and fell in love with her music. I now own 31 Melanie albums. R.I.P dear Melanie. You were one of a kind.

A very sincere and appropriate tribute. I think you picked some good examples to draw an accurate picture of her heart and soul. There was no questioning her authenticity. Peace and cleansing and never wavering from this.

I really liked Melanie's singles Brand New Key and Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma when they were first released but it was her powerful and stirring cover of Ruby Tuesday that went straight to my heart..so strong, so emotional... it still moves me to this day. Her beautiful and almost naive voice will chime forever, bless you Melanie❤
    A fitting, heartfelt tribute, thank
    you Phil.

Fine tribute as always Phil. Though I was aware of Melanie and her work, she was never an artist I got into. This is purely down to I had so many other artists and bands on my listening horizon. However, a sadly departed friend of mine was a big fan and her 'Leftover Wine' album was one of his favourites. Hopefully the fans will be treated to a decent box set of Melanie's works in the not too distant future as her music clearly deserves it.

Beautiful tribute to an outstanding artist, thank you Phil. There's just one minor thing you got wrong: she was never a vegan, and her vegetarian phase lasted only 6 months.
Growing up in West Germany myself, I heard "I don't eat animals" and it changed my life. I heard it in 1977 when I was 14 and it worked on me, by 1984 I was turned into a vegetarian and I still am today.
When I met her for the first time for real (not just for a picture after a concert) I told her that I was a vegetarian due to her, and she laughed. By then I knew already it had only lasted a few months for her, her assistant had told me before that.
I met her many times and we shared a few meals, believe me she liked her animals "well done" (sorry for the stupid joke but that's how Beau Jarred once described it).
I heard the news yesterday and had a sleepless night. I had thought of her during the past few days but hadn't picked up any dramatic vibes. I can't believe she's gone. Together again with Peter who passed in 2010.
She left us with a treasure chest of her work. Thank you Phil for the kind tribute and thank you Melanie for the music. And for making me a vegetarian despite you never meant to.

For my sins, I couldn't think of any of Melanie's songs that I knew but I put "Brand New Key" on TH-cam and then realised it was THAT song!
I must admit, I'd always thought it was Joni Mitchell singing that song, and, of course, here in the UK we had the version that The Wurzels did as "Brand New Combine Harvester".
A lovely voice, shame on me for not checking her out sooner. I guess I should start with a compilation of hers in tribute - but very sad new nonetheless.
    RIP Melanie.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute. I'm a subscriber now. And here's a stunning performance from 1972 (on The Tonight Show) that shows both the power of her voice (singing "Together Alone") and the effect she had on Johnny Carson. Their conversation after was also a beautiful tribute to her pure soul. th-cam.com/video/asBJ3gopqw0/w-d-xo.html
