    As a tech enthusiast, i love information. And what Lewis didn't mention is that this charger is made using Gallium Nitride (GaN).
    What's that? You may ask. Well, it's a relatively new and exciting semi-conductor material that is more efficient than silicon plus it's smaller in size. (A short explanation)
    That's how this charger is that small and is '92% efficient'. GaN is not cheap to make (compared to Silicon). With that in mind, Innergy brought this product way early than many companies could develop similar type of charger. And those two factors IMO explains why it's so expensive. They may also redesigned the schematics to use GaN.
    It is also possible that other companies are working on 60+Watt chargers of that size for cheaper price. Let see what's for us in the near future.

    I'm glad you made this video. Chargers and cables need more attention and improvement. I built a new desktop recently and one of the most important things for me was making sure my motherboard and chassis were capable of quick charging my phone. Not all USB-C ports are created equal. Same goes for cables and power bricks.
    Be careful stuffing those high-speed cables in a bag too. All cables get damaged over time from bending, just like a paper clip.

    I am a MacBook Pro user and have had to replace the charger 3 times over its 6 years using it, and it’s always due to the cable bending and eventually not working, popping, and burning the plastic. That’s around 300 dollars since I live abroad. This product looks like it solves the issue with the bad cables because you would only have to replace the type C cable, and for probably a lot cheaper than a whole brick! Thanks for the review!

    I never found the regular brick "not portable" at all.

    • @zackalger
      @zackalger 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's the built in not removable (for the x1 carbon at least) extension cord on the wall side of the brick. People coming from a mac are used to having a single wire that neatly coils with the smallish brick. Going to a larger brick with two wires to coil is a downgrade, minimal downgrade to some, but definitely not an upgrade. The problem with mac chargers is occasionally you won't be able to get into a tight outlet because of the size of the brick (has only happened to me twice in over 11 years) but then you whip out your detachable extension cable and your good to go. This new product seems to solve the issues from both sides of the coin by reducing size, removing the second cable and emptying your wallet all at the same time. :)

    • @zackalger

    • @RobCabreraCh
      @RobCabreraCh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most chargers like this have different voltage and current outputs. And most modern devices can regulate the amount of current they receive.
      As an example, my Samsung S9 charger supports 5V at 2A, and 9V at 2A. Which basically means that if I connect my S9 to it, the phone will use the higher voltage to quick charge until a certain battery level is reached, and then it will use the lower voltage output as a way to safely finish charging my phone.
      If I connect another phone that doesn't support quick charge however, the charger will default to the lower voltage, so to not fry the power management system on the phone.
      You can see on the box of this one that it supports a number of different outputs, which include the safer 5V for non quick charge devices, the 9V output that will allow it to quick charge phones that support it, and several other outputs that will be useful for other devices. For example, the Nintendo Switch requires 15V at 2.6A to work properly, which this charger can do (15V at 3A, the Switch will just not "pull" the full 3A of current, so it will be safe).
      That is why it's important to use high quality chargers, or actually just no cheap ones.

    • @TheNuclearBolton
      @TheNuclearBolton 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amperage is not forced lmao, the phone will take whatever current it needs excluding voltage and should barge just fine. I also wonder if you could split the output into three easily? It would definitely be the smallest power brick to output ratio ever. Those $20 slim phone charger/bricks are wide and don’t have anywhere near the output as this thing. In theory you can charge 8 iPhones at around 1.5 amps each!!

The 45w one I ended up buying was maybe just slightly bigger than this one, but was only $26. All the other benefits are still there, still quick charges my smartphone etc.

    Love the idea, but there are two things that I don't like. First the long brick is still plugged directly in to the wall which makes it hard to plug into some sockets where the space is tight. Also if someone walked by and clipped the brick, it may break. Maybe if it came with a 3 inch extension cord so it can kind of just hang. Secondly, I'd feel a bit more comfortable if it had a ground prong.

    A couple things to note though, on the Macbook Air 2018 the power adapter is only 30W which isn't much bigger in footprint than an iPad power brick so it all depends on which you are comparing to. Like the 30W for the Macbook Air is actually smaller, but with that being said it is better per size than the larger 85W with the top end 15" Macbook Pro.

    So I left my laptop charger for work at the office. And I was dying to get some juice on my dell laptop latitude 3390. One good thing was that it was able to be charged by usb type c. I was about to get just a simple universal adapter with the dell tip from innergie when i saw this tiny little thing at the store. The price is definitely ridiculous when I compared to the innergie's dell adapter ( $120 SGD vs $29 SGD), but the universal adaptability to be able to charge other devices brings up the value even more. The fact that it was so small it was comparable to a ipad charger (And that thing can't even power up a laptop -.- )
    I decided to go ahead with this 60-C power adapter and boy I did not regret getting it. To me, I feel that this is a intelligent charger that can power up to more types of new devices in the future and that the value of this tiny little thing would "speak up" for the price itself should I not choose to get this one and got the dell adapter instead... xD.
    So... cheers to Innergie for developing such a good engineering laptop adapter that everyone doesn't take notice of in their daily lives.
